    The exam was fine I was in and out in 10 minutes...but I received the bill today $264! Yikes that's $1,584 an hour for a PA's opinion of someone's skin health. A good example of why 40,000,000 Americans don't have health insurance today. Many employers (and certainly not individuals) cannot afford health insurance to cover these outrageous costs. Needless to say I cannot recommend Advanced Derm Care nor Drs Rustad ...not at these prices. Many of us have high deductible plans and even with network discounts this price is more than double what I was expecting for such a short visit.

    Jackie was very professional and knowledgeable. She was informative and gave me a referral to another professional that I needed to see. I will definitely return to this office for further care. I felt very comfortable.

    It is easy to get an appointment. You don't have to wait until you are nearly dead to get in. They are very professional. They are good with follow up. I have been able to go to a physician's assistant. I don't need to see the doctor all the time which is a little less expensive. I think she is very knowledgeable. I felt that she has done a very good job. The people in the billing are nuts. They just don't get it. I have had some problems with them. I have ended up having to pay where I shouldn't have had to pay. But it is okay because they did a good job. They do cosmetic and general dermatology.

    Yes, doctors are busy. But so is the rest of the world. It strikes me as imperious, egotistical, smug not to return a simple phone call, especially when I made it very clear what it was about. What is she thinking? "Why bother with some simple mother's concerns when I/the doctor know everything"? I say, why bother with a doctor who does not have the common courtesy and respect to spend a couple of minutes on the phone with a patient? And I say, why spend $300+ and our valuable time see a doctor when you are not on the same page?

    In some areas docs know more than the rest of us but I beleive very strongly in a TEAM APPROACH to medical healing. After 2 rounds of cancer, I Know this to be True! On many occasions, I have talk directly with doctors proactively before an appointment (via phone) to ask general, important questions���never had a problem with this. Those are the doctors I respect because they respect me and understand that sometimes this is necessary���especially when, in this case, it involves an impressionable (aren't most teens?) teeneager with a condition that is both embarassing and emotional.

    Here is our famiy's concern: after tons of research and discussions with doctor-friends and nutritionists, we decided as a family to have my son go on a milk-free diet for at least a month to see what effect it has on his acne. We have read numerous medical papers on the milk-acne connection (Mayo Clinic and Harvard-based studies, see and felt it was a prudent thing to do. After 16 years of my son's milk-drinking (my 2 boys go through up tp a gallon a day), my eldest is on his 2nd week of going milk-free. This has been difficult for him and for us adapting our menus to make-up the nutrients he normally from so much milk. Naturally, I did not want this single 15 minute appt with a PA to undo (one comment, like diet doesn't matter) all we have done together as a family and what my son has endured going off his main source of protein.

    When it is clear that a doctor (or PA, in this case) does not respect the idea of cooperating and communicating with their patients���rather dictating their views ���I say run away as fast as you can fro that doc. In the end, you are the one who knows your body best (and your kid's) and doctors must LISTEN and respect that!

    We had this appointments scheduled for a month and I (painfully) felt compelled to canceled both becasue of this person's/the clinics' inaction and imperiouness. Now we have nothing scheduled for my kids who are need. I spoke with the clinic manager about this and am curious if any one cares enough to get back to me. Sorry for such a long diatribe here, but my concerns speak to larger issues and to the medical fiend as a whole, so I will address this issue in a another blog in a more edited version.

    They are close to the house and are convenient. They also have two sides to the business: one is the dermatology side where we can get prescription medicine for acne and our insurance covers that and the other side is estheticians. They are way too expensive. They put a different name to it and make it a little mysterious and charge us more and seem to get away with it. I think the dermatology side has pretty standard rates. The doctors my daughter sees are ok.

    My daughter is 18 years old. She left the office not knowing if she had acne or a rash, however both are treated the same. When we got to the pharmacy my Daughter pulled out 3 perscriptions. Two were new and one we had seen before. She had coupons for the new perscriptions making them $25 a piece. I was surprised at the number of perscriptions that were not covered by my insurance and asked the pharmacy staff if they see this offen for acne. They replied that this was common for this clinic. I decided to ask the clinic if we could get the perscriptions we had in the past (2 perscriptions that our insurance covered) that had worked for my daughter. I left a message on the triage line and got no return call for 3 days. Once we connected the perscriptions were changed. It was dissapointing to take so long to solve this problem and to have been given so many new perscriptions not covered by our insurance.
