    The actual process of treatment was fine. Throughout, I made sure I asked questions about my insurance and whether the hospitalization would be covered through my plan. I was assured that it was, and so I didn't think much of it after I was done. I did run in to quite a few issues when it came to billing after the fact though. There was a lot of confusion over the coding of the services provided during treatment, I believe, that caused a lot of trouble for the insurance billing. I had a lot of bills come for services that were supposed to be covered by my insurance, and so I had to make a lot of phone calls to straighten things out. Going through it, it seemed like a lot of the issues were coming from the end of the health care system and not the insurance. Whenever I called BCBS about issues, they were very effective in communicating the issue that was causing errors in the billing, and it was generally easy to clear up. The biggest problem turned out to be that the hospital thought I had two different insurance providers, which was not the case. And that was very easy to clear up with BCBS. The toughest part was the length of time it took to clear up all the billing. I still get a statement now and then for the services, but those are generally explanations of what was covered by insurance during the stay, which was thankfully all of it. Overall, things worked out, and I wasn't billed for anything that I wasn't supposed to be billed for. But it took a lot of work to make sure that I wasn't. So, I would highly recommend to others that they be very clear on what their insurance policy covers and what it does not, and get hard copies of everything related to your coverage. If someone tells you that something will be covered, get it in writing and save it, because it makes things so much easier. And don't be afraid to question the statements, because everybody is human and mistakes happen.

    It went fairly well. I did have to wait for what seemed like a very long time in the doctor's office between seeing the nurse and the doctor, but that tends to happen wherever you go. The staff was very nice and helpful. The doctor checked on things as much as he could without doing any other testing, which was nice considering I don't have insurance through my workplace yet. Both fortunately and unfortunately, he didn't see anything wrong except for things that I had gone to the doctor about before. Fortunately because there were no new issues, unfortunately because it's an expensive way to find out there's nothing wrong. I do wish, though, that they had looked more thoroughly at my medical history, because I came to realize after my visit that my troubles were most likely due to some issues I have had in the past due to an eating disorder. I feel as though the issues might have been looked at more thoroughly if there had been the knowledge of the eating disorder, mainly because I've had issues with potassium and sodium deficiency, which are related to the issues I was experiencing. My records of the eating disorder are with a different health care system, which would probably explain the lack of prior knowledge. In any case, all of the staff was very helpful, the facility looked very nice and clean, and I feel that they did the best they were able to do. They also sent me a form after the visit to fill out so that they can see if I qualify for any of their assistance programs, which is awesome. Overall, my experience with the Altru system has been very good.
