    Jack Pixley Sweeps Inc
I have used Jack Pixley Sweeps for years.  They are always very professional and friendly - and they were again this time.  They bring their own dropcloth so nothing gets dirty - and nothing is disturbed.  They are punctual - and easy to deal with.  Appointments are easy to make.  Prices are reasonable.  The sweep that came out this time noticed that the stones in the stove were broken and replaced them (at additional cost) - but I appreciated being notified of the issue.

They arrived early in the afternoon. They did a thorough cleaning and checked my fireplace out. They said things looked good which makes me feel good about using the fireplace. They answered my questions and were very friendly and professional. I would definitely use this service again! Thank you so much!

lleye It went well...very polite and efficient.  We ended up getting the heaters from his company...Airtech.  Their salesman was also great...brought us some frozen walleye he had caught in the summer.

Nick, Debbie, and Dave were an absolute pleasure to work with.  They resolved an issue for me in the most expedient and professional manner that I would have expected.  I am going to use Jack Pixley again to clean and inspect my fireplace.  I recommend requesting the technician Dave if you have your fireplace cleaned and inspected.

Nick's Chimney Service & Duct Cleaning
Nick returned my call promptly and sent two of his guys to do an estimate the next day.  The other chimney service never got back to me with an estimate, so I went with Nick and he got me on the schedule a few days later.  On the day of service, he and his crew showed up early (which was fine) and were very courteous and professional.  As a woman dealing with male contractors, I have often dealt with condescending jerks in the past, so I really appreciate it when this does not happen.  They did not talk down to me at all when I asked questions, and they were great about cleaning up any mess they made during the job, which is also rare and appreciated.  The job was done well, on time and actually cost less than the estimate due to their Angie's List coupon.  I would definitely use Nick's again!

    The Chimney Pro's
I recently bought and moved into a home with a wood burning fireplace.  I phoned the contractor one week earlier to have what I thought was a "gas insert" removed from my wood burning fireplace to convert the fireplace back to wood, as well as to have a chimney inspection performed and estimate provided to install a wood stove in another room.  I was told over the phone that to remove the gas insert and to do the inspection, the cost would be $500.
Contractor showed on time, A for punctuality.
Just after viewing the fireplace, the contractor noted that this was not a "gas insert" but rather, was a simple "gas log."  All that needed to be done was to cut the gas log from the gas line and remove the decorative logs from the fireplace.  Note, even though the job was quite a bit simpler than the contractor had first thought (i.e., not a gas insert removal), I was sort of expecting to be quoted a reduced price at the end, yet I was not and was asked to pay the full $500 quoted originally for removal of a gas insert.
After shutting the gas off, the contractor asked and borrowed a pair of channel lock pliers from my tool set to disconnect the log from the line.  I would have expected that a professional contractor would have sufficient tools to do the job.  The contractor cut the fitting attached to the gas log in order to finish removing the gas log from the fireplace.  However, rather than cap the gas line himself (as I'd expect a professional to do for $500), he told me I could go to the hardware store and buy a cap to fasten to the end of the gas line to seal the pipe myself.  I did so immediately as I was worried about gas leaking into the house.
In addition, the contractor did not clean up after himself, I was left to locate the bits and pieces of copper piping in my basement after he left.  The contractor also did not vacuum the soot from the fireplace as I was told would be done when he started the job.  The contractor did offer and in fact hauled away the old gas log set.
On to the inspection.  The contractor did not sweep the chimney as I was invoiced.  According to their own inspection report, a chimney sweep is required in order to provide an accurate inspection.  I knew my chimney was extremely clean anyway, but I would have at least liked to have been told that a sweep was not needed.  When I followed up about this after receiving the report, I was told that "a template report was used," but not told why a sweep was not performed.  In the report, the contractor indicated that the video inspection showed severe "damage from the gas log insert" including deteriorated mortar joints and vertical cracks throughout the chimney.  I was quoted $5000 to install a chimney liner and told that the chimney could not be used until repaired. However now I don't trust the report since it could all be template for all I know.
Needless to say, there are a ton of chimney inspection / sweep companies in the twin cities.  I will be obtaining a second opinion and having a real professional install the new liner if needed.

Nick's Chimney Service & Duct Cleaning
He came when expected. Did a good job cleaning and inspecting our chimney. Had equipment and took care so no soot or ashes could get on our carpeting. Climbed up and inspected cap and seal around chimney on the roof. Found some cracks. Gave us an estimate for repair and also told us exactly what we would need if we chose to do the work ourself.

What a great experience.  I received a call from Dane, the owner within 24 hours of my inquiry.  He scheduled our appointment for today, one of the only days I am available this month.  He squeezed me into an already busy day as he stated this is the start of his busy season.
Jim, who swept our chimney arrived after calling to let me know the approximate time of arrival (which was well within the two hour window).  He was the best! He was kind, professional, and efficient.  He mentioned that we had a broken damper and that he would talk with his boss to about what my options were. He also told me about a chimney cap that we should consider and why it would be a good idea to get one.  Made perfect sense to me.
I was in the other room engaged in paperwork, but would hear Jim pleasantly whistling or humming while he worked.  The poor guy was pretty black from soot as I admit, our fireplace hadn't been cleaned in quite some time.  I was surprised when I saw his van leave the driveway, but he called and clarified that his boss would be calling me to collect the sales tax on the project and didn't want to take the chance of tracking the soot into our home.  This was fantastic service from beginning to end!  I'd recommend Twin Cities Furnace Cleaning to anyone.  I will be holding on to your number for another cleaning in two more years.
    Thanks, Dane and Jim!-
