They have been very good. Scott runs the place and is always there when you call and have questions. He is a very honest man and is trustworthy. They do excellent work and I would recommend them. I will use them again.

I would not use them again. The air conditioner was not working. They told me they needed to bring in an air conditioning specialist which was not employed by them. They were not able to even with the specialist accurately troubleshoot the problem. It was like they were shuffling parts to see what would fix the problem which ran up the bill. In the end, I paid $2500 and it still did not work. I went back and they put a $25 part in and it worked. It is hard to know that any of the repairs they made by this specialisty were actually needed. You can never tell. The guy who was handling my situation was never really helpful in terms of customer staff part. It sounded like they were more interested in getting my car out the door. The reason why I say that is when they got my car out the door, it still wasn't working. I am not a complainer. People do the best they can. In this case, I told them so, I felt like they were just taking advantage. It was my daughter's car but I was footing the bill. They did not ask me why I thought that. They did not have any interest. They just wanted my car out the door. I have had other experiences that were okay but not what I expected. Their ability to handle customer satisfaction has a lot to be desired. I told them if you were not comfortable with fixing the problem, you should have told me so I could have taken it somewhere else.

Certified Transmission and Total Car Care
Amazing job. By the quality of the gas line bend and mount, I could tell they take great pride in their work. Good communication from Ryan as well. The final price was $100 less than I had anticipated for all the work done.

    Valvoline Instant Oil Change
They didn't have the equipment to rotate my tires which shocked me. I would tell family and friends not to use them if you need your tires rotated. Two people completed the service and it took 15 minutes.

They are definitely honest. Everyone in our plant goes there. They are punctual. They have been fantastic. We used to go to other chains but these guys have been good. They have been really helpful diagnosing some particularly difficult things. I've been using them for 15-20 years.

Our car is 1998 with fairly low mileage so we appreciate a garage that appreciates a balance of cost and maintenance with consideration of an older, not-fancy car. I appreciate the straight forward approach by Lake Elmo Repair. They explored other low cost options with the axle that worked well for us and their diagnosis of the coolant leak was only a hose. Their service was quick and friendly. And they offer coupons on their website for a deduction in the cost of repairs. We have been looking for a new auto repair place since the owner of our former repair place retired. I think we have found a new place that we can trust with Lake Elmo Repair.

My truck is driving much, much better. I am convinced the money was well spent and that I will be able to keep the truck. Lance was friendly, helpful, and professional and took the time to explain the repair.

The estimate at Rick's 36 was $1,100.00. My wife objected to the high cost and was told that in addition to the bulb, the "lighting control module:" needed to be replaced. She reluctantly agreed to go ahead.( It turns out that the control module is buried under the body of the car, so there was no way in the time taken to prepare the estimate that it could have been tested.) The final bill was $1,154.05. The breakdown is $255.89 for labor and $796.54 for parts. (plus $44.87 for supplies.) The Toyota dealer sells the control module $275.11, and the bulb is available from NAPA for about $45.00. Discussing this significant difference with Rick's, they pointed out that the higher cost was because the part carries a life-time, nation-wide guarantee, parts and labor. It also turned out that they didn't actually test the control module ever - their experience is that this is the problem. So we paid $521.00 for a warranty, almost twice as much as the part costs for something that, if it in fact failed, it failed after 9 years and over 100,000 miles. We indicated that if we had known the high cost was based upon the warranty, we would have declined the work, but that was not revealed at all until after the work was done. Rick's rebated us $100.00 so now the warranty only cost us $400.00 or about 2x the price of the parts

I took my SUV to Rick's 36 for a timing belt replacement. Routine maintenance on Toyota's that is due every 90,000 miles. The first call I received gave me a quote for $2,100.00.  At first I was in shock and then told him that the dealer quoted me $850. He said he would rework the estimate and remove some optional services. I received another call about 20 minutes later with a quote of $1,600. Still very expensive, but in addition to the timing belt it included a new serpentine belt, pulley, and water pump. He also offered several other upsell services that I declined. I received the car back on the day promised and the next day we packed the family up for a weekend trip. By the time we made it to St. Cloud the truck had overheated. On closer inspection I could see the water pump was leaking. Luckily, the head gaskets were not damaged and I was able to use my insurance/roadside assistance to cover the first 50 miles of the towing charges. I called Rick's 36 on Monday morning and they were very professional. The leaking water pump issue was fixed within two days. It took two days because when they were working on the water pump they damaged the radiator and had to order a new part. As I was driving the car back home from the shop it stalled every time I came to a stop light. Once I got the truck home I did an inspection and found the air intake that runs from the air filter to the intake manifold was not properly connected. I fixed the issue within five minutes and sent Rick's a quick email regarding the problem so they could give feedback to the technician. Overall, the management is very professional, but the quality of work could use significant improvement.
