Andrew is professional, trustworthy, punctual, does extremely nice work & when he is done I don���t have a huge mess to clean up. When we replaced the front door on our home, the ���custom��� built door was smaller than it was supposed to be. Andrews problem solving skills actually made the job turn out looking better than if the door had come the correct size. I highly recommend Melon Man & will certainly be using him again in the future. Give him a call- you will not be disappointed!!

    The initial sales consultation went well.  The team that arrived was professional and had some good ideas on how to accomplish what we wanted to accomplish.  We gave them our budget and asked them to accomplish what they could within it.  This was the week before Thanksgiving and we were told we'd get a quote before the holiday.  We finally received the proposal on Dec 5, 2015.  For reference the other three companies we asked to provide us quotes at the same time delivered them within a week.
    When the quote arrived, all of the projects (kitchen, main bath, master bath, laundry tub, fireplace installation, door replacement) were lumped together with one big price for the whole project.  The quote itself was grouped together by type of work performed (i.e. carpenter will do this, electrician will do that) with no way for me to be sure that everything was covered or what parts went with what project.
    I asked the sales consultant, Anthony, for an approximate cost per project since the bid was over our budget and I couldn't tell what projects were contributing what costs.  Instead, he sent me a revised bid with a lower price, some things taken out and only the fireplace installation broken out.  I didn't get to choose what to take out.
    I reiterated that I wanted a price on a per project basis because I couldn't understand how the price was arrived at.  He informed me that they did not break out projects that way (every other contractor that gave me a bid had broken it down by project - note I didn't want an itemized bid - just approximate cost).   I called their office and told them I couldn't spend tens of thousands of dollars when I had a hard time reading the bid.  They immediately transferred me to Anthony who said (literally) to take the current quote or leave it.  He informed me that our project wasn't worthwhile for them to take on if we didn't do it exactly as quoted.  I told him that the quote didn't make sense to me because I couldn't tell how each project was contributing to the final price.  He stated "well it makes sense to us - I don't know what else you want me to tell you".  
    He did break out two projects finally but by now it was well into January.  Between the sales consultants attitude on the phone and the fact that the pricing in the quote was all lumped together and they refused to break it down, we decided to go with someone else.   Several friends who have done remodels in the past said the unwillingness of this company to give me any discrete pricing information were big red flags.   I decided that if they were already being dismissive of our concerns before the contract was even signed that our project was probably not going to go smoothly.

    I don't think I could have found a more professional and knowledgeable person on the subject of home improvement. Dan stopped by for an initial assessment of the project, took measurements and recommended Scherer brothers lumber yard over the home improvement stores (I.e. Home Depot, menards, etc) which saved us $500 on our custom door. He removed the old door, installed the new one and storm door in 5 hours. When he finished, he walked through recommended maintenance of the door and certain finishing tips. My one criticism would be a need for a written quote prior to work (since there was a question about the original quote). However, this was not a major issue.

    This is not the first time we've used Melon Man and it won't be the last. Andrew is wonderful to work with. He is VERY thorough and is committed to doing quality work. I read a previous customer that said he is on the pricey side and while this may be true, you get what you pay for. He is punctual, polite and goes above and beyond to make sure any needs you have are met. Both my husband and I are 100% comfortable having him do any work in our home, even if we were not there. We've used him before and we'll use him again for anything else we need!
    If you're looking for someone reliable and to really do a good job, the Melon Man is the only one you should call.

    Below is the exact complaint posted on Yelp and submitted to the Better Business Bureau
    First Read Rich B.'s comment (SEE YELP FOR REFERENCE). Same sales approach in my case, except the sales person pretended to call the owner to and quot;pushand quot; for their best deal. I found the whole charade to be ridiculous. He went as far as to say that he only had and quot;oneand quot; discount to offer for the day and if we didn't buy on the spot the price would go up. Also they'd want to put a sign in my yard to drive business. Of course this was in June and it's now mid-November so pounding a sign in the frozen ground covered by snow will be problematic, won't it?
    I've pasted the exact submission I made to the Better Business Bureau on 11/11/14 below. Well I can't comment on the quality of the product as it still has yet to be delivered/installed. I can share my absolute zero confidence in this company. Don't buy from them. The tactics at the point of sale are sleazy and cheesy with zero follow through on delivery.
    Company has yet to deliver on product ordered on June 20, 2014. We purchased three exterior doors on June 20th in anticipation of having them installed before Minnesota's inclement weather came. The salesman (Jeff) assured us that it would take 8 to 12 weeks to complete the order/install process. We're now 23 weeks from that date and have been blatantly pushed off on multiple occasions by Window Concepts because, as I've recently come to find out, they are understaffed to complete their work orders. This started at the end of August when I called to check on the status of our order. I was told that the doors were in the warehouse and I should expect a call shortly to schedule - that call never came. Instead I received a call to delay the install stating that the doors hadn't arrived. I called back in September to schedule when the doors were and quot;finallyand quot; in and was told they couldn't schedule at that time, but rest assured I would receive a call soon. I called back around the 4th of October and was again pushed off, this time directed to a sales manager, Jimmy who never returned my phone call. I called back mid-October, and in a rather blunt and heated exchange finally was scheduled for Nov. 11th. Last week I again received a call informing me that my installation would need to be pushed out further. I refused to accept that and shortly received a call from the owner, Greg who apologized for the delays, explained how busy they are, and that he'd guarantee his and quot;bestand quot; crew would be on time on the agreed upon date of Nov. 11th. I'm really at a loss at this point. This morning I was called by Mike on behalf of owner (Greg) to push the installation to an unspecified date citing complications on other jobs. I asked Mike when I might expect a call back and at this point demand that the company share in the cost of my wasted time, effort and energy to simply buy a product from them and have it installed as agreed. While I'm not accusing this company of fraud as I do believe they are busy, I am emphatically accusing them of being inept at running business and managing customer expectations. Expectations of which they've set and broke on multiple occasions since June.

    Exceptional quality and services provided by Dan and his crew.

    Contact Dan to have him quote the addition that we're looking to do. Once again his quote came in at a very reasonable price and reasonable time frame as well. Hired him for the job. Through out the project, he kept us well inform of what is going on and trying to stay under our budget. The addition turned out great. Our family, neighbors and even the city inspector gave great compliments.

    I had hired Dan for my restaurant's renovation several years back. He did not disappoint me then and he's definitely did not disappoint me now. Love his work! Already recommended Dan to a couple of interested neighbors.

    The company contacted me right away and said they'd be out the same week to look at the project and complete the work the following week.  They did not come out that week and did not call.  I contacted the company the following week and was told they'd be out some time that week to look at the work and have the work completed by the 4th of July.  That week came and went and no one stopped by the house.  I again contacted the company the 3rd week following paying for the Big Deal and they did come out and check the project.  When I contacted the company again, the guy (don't remember his name) told me they would be out next week to complete the work.  The next week came and went and the work had not been completed.  I contacted the company again and they insisted they would be out next week (4th week following paying for the Big Deal) and they did complete the work.  I contacted them to see if they used all 6 hours of the work I paid for to complete the caulking.  I received an e-mail that they used 5.5 hours to complete the work.  The e-mail didn't indicate any desire to do some additional work to fulfill their obligation and I didn't pursue it as I had had a difficult time just getting them out to complete one project.  So, the company received 6 hours worth of payment but only worked 5.5.  I would not use this company again.
