Wallpaper Installation reviews in Saint Louis Park

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • Exterior: The previous owners hadn't had the home painted in over 30 years, so Tom had his work cut out for him. He ground down the exterior to the original wood, primed and painted two coats (and used some ingenious compound on a spot where a woodpecker had gone to town!). He also helped with color selection, which was a godsend, as though I have strong opinions, I'm sometimes at a loss as to a starting point. He takes my wrinkled nose and vigorous head shakes in stride when I don't like a recommendation. He also commissioned someone to bolster our pillars so they didn't look so small in comparison to the rest of the house.
Bathrooms: Tom wallpapered the guest bath with ridiculous precision. It's literally my favorite room in the house. So beautiful. He also helped pick the color and painted the master bath and kids' bath, as well as all of the trim. The man is a machine when it comes to trim. My husband fancies himself a good painter because he did it for a summer in college. He cannot hold a candle to Tom. I don't know what or how he does it, but it's always perfect. Tom also did the trim in our master bedroom, since it was an odd shade, so it flowed with the new master bath.
Kitchen: Tom scraped our ceiling and repainted it and then painted the kitchen, as well as all trim. The ceiling had some staining from the upstairs, kids' bath, which had leaked during the previous owners' tenure. It's all gone now and looks incredible. And it doesn't have that weird texturizing.
Dining/Living Room: Tom painted and installed all of our baseboard after the installation of our hardwood floors. He's unbelievable at trim. And thank goodness, because I'm terrible at it!
Son's room: Now, when I say that Tom painted this room, it's not that simple. We removed the wallpaper years ago when we moved in and just left it looking like a bomb had gone off, marking up the walls, windows blown out. Ok, that didn't' happen. But it was reminiscent of a set for a war film. The walls were in TERRIBLE shape under the wallpaper - I'm not entirely sure WHAT the previous owner did to make the walls so marred and horrible, but Tom spent a couple of days making a beautiful, perfectly smooth surface. Then, he did his magic with the trim and walls. He even painted the closet. It's awesome. And, he helped me pick out the color in that room as well, since we all know by this point, I struggle with that.

  • It was very important to find someone to put wall paper up. We had three walls, three different rooms, and each with a design that had to be aligned for the effect to take place. Each wall came out beautifully. Sally was very prompt for both the estimate and the actual work.

  • I could not recommend her more highly. She was one of the best workers I have ever had. She was one of the most professional people I have ever meet as a contractor. She was quite when kids were around and she was so methodical. She also did extra detail and did not charge us extra, like wall papering some light surroundings.

  • Our neighbor recommended Dan. We got a bid from him and one from the painter my builder recommended. Dan's bid was lower and we hired him (his company name at the time was D and J Painting with a C*** Rapids Address.) He was pretty easy to work with at first and did a just fine job with much of the work. Wall repair was not what I would have expected and some of the edging and blending from edging to rolled surface was not ideal. (my husband saw one of Dan's workers edging at a baseboard while talking on the phone - not surprisingly the edging was not good there...) Some trim work peeled. We did have to ask that things like backs of doors and undersides of windowsills get done - as they otherwise weren't getting done. Overall quality, while not perfect was OK and we knew we had gone with the low bidder. What is driving the grade is his communication and that he left the job without completing it. When he left the job, Dan said he had trouble with our builder regarding scheduling and that it cost him money - that may be true, but he did not let us know so we never had a chance to address it. Moreover, the manner in which he left was highly unprofessional in my opinion. Towards the end of the job there still remained work to finish - surfaces that were still unpainted - and touch-ups to do, including issues caused by construction, but also issues such as peeling paint on trimwork. Dan preferred to try to do it all in one day. He arrived one day to do it - but only did a fraction of it and left - saying he needed us out of the house completely to finish the rest. We had difficulty getting him to agree to day to finish - many unreturned calls and e-mails. He finally agreed to come and finish on a Wednesday, two days before our builder was putting our house in the remodeler's showcase. We booked a hotel and prepared the house. He told my husband he would come at 8:30 am. At 8:45 he had not arrived. Needing to leave for work, I called him. He responded that he had told my husband between 8:30 and 9:00 (not consistent with my husband's memory) and that he was on his way to our house. I asked him when he would arrive - he said about 20 minutes. Half an hour came and went, still no Dan - I left for work, my husband having returned from dropping kids at school. At 9:40 I got an e-mail from Dan saying he had decided not to finish the job and would forgo his final payment - we had paid him everything except $250 by then. (mistake to not hold back more, I know now) Confused, I called his cell phone, he answered, I said hello and who I was - he hung up on me. I called back - voicemail. He never responded to phone calls or e-mail after that - we never heard from him again. We had to hire another painter to finish the job we already paid Dan to do - and it cost us well more than $250. While the quality of the work did not blow me away, I would not have written a bad review about it. It was Dan's refusal to communicate and abandoning the job he'd already been paid for that I feel others should be aware of before deciding to hire him.

  • The project went very well. The work was done on schedule and in a quality manner. They carefully covered carpeting and other objects in the rooms, and always cleaned up carefully at the end of each day. I asked to have some trim in another room touched up, and they took care of this at no extra charge.

  • I left a message for Linda and she was exceedingly prompt in calling me back to give me a sight-unseen quote. Though I ultimately decided to go another route, I was exceedingly impressed by her short response time, very thorough estimate, and pleasant nature. I have stored her number such that should I need her services at a later time or to recommend her to a friend, I more than certainly will.

  • Tom was the consumnate professional. He returned calls promptly, arrived as promised, provided an accurate estimate as to time and expense and accurately projected our wallpaper needs. He is busy so we did need to wait about 4-5 weeks until he had time open in his schedule. I would not only hire him again, I would and have recommended him to friends.
