    Boyer Building Corp
Met with 4 different general contractors, but felt the most comfortable with Bob Boyer. Bob also brought value engineering options to us, and was willing to commit the additional time required to review the plans and identify where we could reduce the overall costs to get the project within our budget.
Held a preconstruction meeting on site before we began to listen to our concerns and worked with us to live in the existing house while construction was underway.
Ran into unforeseen conditions (bad soils) and Bob and team were there to help us understand and work thru the solution, providing transparency and communication the entire time. Extremely fair with the additional costs, and fortunate that they were able to perform the additional foundation work  in house in lieu of bringing in another sub (huge savings). Foundation required helical piers, and Boyer is one of a few companies in town that perform this work.
Project ran longer than initially expected, as a result of the additional foundation work, but Boyer pushed hard to get it done. The team always responded to our concerns and requests - and we if we removed the additional foundation work, our contract would have been right where we started.
Bob and team were great getting lien waivers and final billing for our financing. The bank was extremely please at how effortless and easy they were to work with - which made it even easier (and worry free) for us.

Mike was prompt and professional. ?He removed an old shed and then built a new one from a kit I had purchased at Menard's. The shed kit was sub-standard and Mike needed to make many modifications to ensure the shed was built soundly and securely. ?In addition, Mike needed to build a base on the cement slab since the slab was not the right size for the shed. Mike also built a fix to my fence so that my dog would not escape. ?I appreciated the high craftsmanship of Mike's work and his keeping me informed of the things he was doing. ?I would absolutely engage Mike again on projects in my home. ?In fact, we are in dialogue about a patio project right now.

Reasonably well.  Installer was prompt and completed the work in a timely manner.  However, he refused to help my wife with the controls and simply answered "it's in the manual" to any questions she had.  Installer used my ladder, rather than his own and left it standing in the garage rather than putting it away.  He did not dispose of all the left-over materials and packing but left it sitting on my garage floor for me to dispose of.  I'm still finding screws, bolts, and nuts on my garage floor that he simply left laying there when he dropped them.  To me a job isn't complete until the clean-up is done, and the installation is explained to the Owner.

The Shed Shop was great to work with.  I dealt with Jessica with all the details until the day of building and she was always quick to respond and answered all my questions promptly.  She is very knowledgeable about the design process as well as any other building or structural elements.  The building process went very smoothly.  It was built in hours.  These guys obviously know what they are doing.

    Minneapolis/St Paul Garage Construction/Builders
Joe Slavec the owner came out to bid the job.  Said he would get back to me right away, and I was SHOCKED when I got the bid the next morning, less than 24 hours later!  Usually this is a good sign, but I decided to get 2 other bids.  One company that rhymes with hustle, gave me a bid over 10% higher, and took 8 days to get me the bid.  Another company came out on a Saturday, which was impressive, but then never sent me a bid at all.   Even after I called THEM 3 times!!  Needless to say I should have went with my gut and hired Joe right away.
I built a unique garage that was tandem and had an overhang, bumpout, and I also had a tree to try and work around. I went back and forth and changed my plan about 10 times, and Joe patiently worked with me to make sure I got the exact garage I wanted.  The concrete guys came out to do a final look before coming to pour the next day.  They did some final measurements, and I ended up having to chop down the tree I was trying to work around.  Joe was able to keep me on the schedule while I found someone to chop and grind down the stump of my tree.  Once that was done it was a host of contractors that came and worked their a**** off.  The concrete guys were amazing.  Ive poured lots of slabs in HS and college and these guys were good.  Before I knew it the framing went up, siding, and shingles.  Given the size of the garage I thought for sure the city of SLP would have told me at the end it was too big, but the final inspection went great.
I paid Joe in full sometime around Thanksgiving, but what really impressed me was when I called him back a month later.  I called Joe in January, and said there was this chipped hole in the concrete(prob from this horrible cold). He said, "no problem, call me when the snow melts and I'll get the guys to come out and fix it".  To me thats the mark of a true professional.  Someone who stands behind their work after its all said and done.
All the workers that came were nice, courteous, professional, and cleaned up after themselves before leaving at the end of the day.  The final bid Joe gave me before we started the garage was the same amount I ended up paying him in the end, which after talking to some friends of mine is not always the case. I was very impressed and would HIGHLY recommend Minneapolis Garage.

Showed up on time, and went over everything.  Asked who else was bidding my garage and then bashed them.  Then promised to have something to me within 2 days and I waited for over a week to even get a bid.  When I got the bid it was $5,500 higher than the competition he just bashed.

Everything went fine through the permits and building, until the end of the project. I'd requested they remove an inch of rocky dirt in the back yard (maybe fill quality) so it would be ready for a layer of soil and new sod. Unfortunately instead of removing a level inch, they removed only some soil near the garage and then dumped the rocky dirt in my front yard and MY NEIGHBOR'S YARD. They dumped the rocky mess in a slight depression that lies on both my property and clearly extends into my neighbor's yard.  This was nowhere near any work they were contracted to do. They also dumped it in various places in my front yard (again, nowhere near any contracted work) and used it as the fill dirt next to the newly poured front walk.  After several attempts to get them to come out and rectify the problem (at LEAST remove the dumped rocky mess so I could put down sod), I was never able to get them to come out and take a look.  I finally decided it wasn't worth the hassle and paid a sodding company to come out and remove it and lay new sod.
However, my main issue is that the garage foundation is in no way treated for moisture or water incursion.  That is completely unacceptable in Minnesota. I was never even offered the option to have the blocks treated, nor to pay extra to ensure that the foundation was installed in such a way as to prevent water from pooling against the east side of the garage. I'd been very clear that this was my first house and first garage, so obviously I didn't know to ask to have the foundation treated and leveled correctly to avoid water incursion. And I question if a homeowner should know this or have to request it.
I have not contacted them to rectify the water incursion issue. I have reviewed the contract, and it very clearly states that the foundations are not treated for water/moisture in any way, and that this is the homeowner's responsiblity.  It's hard for me to believe that I was supposed to hire a contractor to treat the foundation in a brand new garage build.  However, I have since confirmed that is the case as I've had a contractor come out to take a look at the problem and to review the contract.  I will be hiring someone with a much better rating to treat my garage, now that I understand how serious the issue is with our extreme weather changes.
I cannot recommend a company that routinely uses slab and concrete block for the foundation, but does nothing to treat for moisture in a new construction job.

    Badger Inc
I have a 100 year old, two story stable/garage, that was leaning badly. The wood sill around the base had rotted away and the previous owner had driven through the back wall. It's a unique old structure and I wanted to save it if possible, but most contractors told me they didn't know how to fix it and that I should tear it down.
I called Badger and he promptly dropped by to take a look. After thinking about it it for a day or two he came up with a way that he could stabilize the structure, jack the building up, replace the rotted wood and straighten it out. He also put me in touch with a concrete guy who was able to pour a new cement floor while it was up in the air! When he set it back in place it was as straight and plumb as new.
Badger has many years of experience moving and repairing old buildings and did a great job for me at a very reasonable price. He saved me thousands of dollars by fixing my old garage instead of having to tear it down and build a new one.

    The Better Shed Company
The Better Shed Company tore down a deck, built a large storage shed and smaller garden shed, and custom designed an adjoining deck walkway and wooden stairs connecting our multilevel site. Andrew was great o work with, as was his crew. He visualized solutions to design challenges and guided the project through to a very satisfactory finish. As an extra bonus - he consulted on some structural issues to our home. We highly recommend the Better Shed Company. They were talented, ethical and comprehensive.

I selected Shep Shop because it is a local company. And I am very happy with my choice and with the result.
The Shed is fully build on site. It is full of great little features (Sturdy lock, double action latches, hooks for the doors, screens on the windows...) The paint is exactly the color we chose (including the window boxes!).
Overall it comes out to be about the cost of a build your own kit but the result is VERY professional
