General Contracting reviews in Saint Louis Park

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • Andy and Kevin were absolutely wonderful to work with. We did a complete home remodel and addition and I could not be happier with the work that they’ve done. I would recommend Kuechle construction to anyone looking to remodel!

  • Overall, the project went very well, We are happy with the quality of the work and the result. The plans were creative, and we were happy with the design selections and guidance. There were a few unexpected changes to layout due to structural constraints, which resulted in a less efficient flow. The cost of change orders were not clearly explained prior to execution. The contractor was very hands on and at the job site extensively, and she was easy to get a hold of. The carpenter was not available to work on the project on Fridays, which did extend the project timeline. The contractor pointed out repairs/improvements that needed to be made to bring the home up to code. This added cost, but was necessary and appreciated.

  • The contractor showed up on time, was very knowledgeable carpenter, and was able to fix the issue on spot! Nate (Owner), is extremely pleasurable to work with and runs a professional business with always putting the customer's first.
    - Christine S.
  • The first job was a bit complicated but Roger figured out what we had to do and the end product was great. All of the folks he had working for him were knowledgeable and friendly. The second project was more straightforward but not without hiccups normal for an older house and weather related. Again the end product is great and the workers were friendly. Ryan did some cool tile work on both projects. Roger welcomed my questions and followed up on my concerns.

  • First he didn't cover the door where he was working which lead to dust being all over my house. The floor looks good but the quality of the transition is poor. He cabinetry work is horrible. The craftsmanship on the cabinets is extremely poor, I couldn't more disappointed

  • The painters did a very nice job, replacing a handful of boards that had been damaged by woodpeckers, scraping the previous (poor) paint job from the house, and repainting. They came on the day that they said they would come and completed the work within the time range that they provided. Very professionally done.

  • Terrible. It pains me to write a bad review but our experience warrants it. The three week renovation lasted almost 8 weeks and we are still waiting for an electrical mistake to be fixed another 4 weeks later. In fact, after 4 weeks of waiting for a part they said they could not get, I found in 5 minutes and will be completing and paying for myself.
Not a single trade completed work even remotely on time and promises were rarely kept; the delays just continued to stack up throughout the process, despite the fact we were desperate to get this job completed on time due to our impending baby's arrival. Our expectations for GNR were much higher.
There was a total lack of coordination and design consultation; decisions were made that shouldn't have been, and questions were asked of us that should have been dealt with. The end product is acceptable but not to any degree of high standard and there is definitely some poor finishing work; a framed window is just painted 1 x 2 boards, not even sanded and is uneven, the shower tile has poor finishing, and a heating duct inserted doesn't actually provide any heat, to name a few.
On top of it all, there was a complete lack of communication, both with us and between the trades. When pushed for explanations, all we received were excuses: "it happens", we were told. Unfortunately, our experience with this job was very poor and I cannot recommend them to anyone else.

  • It went amazing. I can't say enough good things about Richard and his crew. They were all professional, timely and did excellent work. But let's get into the details.
    Plans:
Richard started off by visiting our house and talking with us about the project. He measured and then made meticulous plans. For the planning you make a deposit around $400 for his efforts, which is applied to the job should you use him. That was worth every penny. He has a lot of expertise with kitchens and gave us valuable insight. He presented to use several versions and then when we picked a direction we liked, we kept fine tuning until we had a final plan (think plan 8 was the winner!). He got creative and was able to customize the cabinets into fit a few challenging spaces. Richard is very thorough, so that's why it takes a little time up front. Once the plan is set, it was very accurate. Communication and planning were definitely a 2-way street. He would listen to us, work with our budget and make adjustments accordingly. For our part we asked for certain things that meant a lot to us, and trusted his judgement in other areas. In hindsight, that was a good strategy.
    Budgeting:
Initially, our eyes were bigger than our budget. So after we first asked for all the bells and whistles, Richard worked with us to trim back to a place that worked for us. I found his prices very fair. When I examined doing some things myself (like upgrading to LED lights), I realized his prices were not much more than if I were doing it myself.
    Timing:
Once you sign the contract you get locked into Richard's calendar (truly his specialty). He provided an accurate timeline with clear goals of the stuff I had to do (demo, etc) and when his team was doing stuff. It was incredibly accurate and helpful. We finished within a day of when he said we would. We did a full remodel and it took 7 weeks.
    Products/Materials:
Richard uses excellent materials like Chrystal Cabinets and Cambria Countertops. We got all-plywood cherry cabinets from Chrystal. They were pretty expensive but they look incredible. Richard really knows Chrystal and knows how to work with them. They even made a custom microwave cabinet to match the other cabinets. The quality is way better than we encountered from even the high-end cabinets at the big box stores. The faucet and sink he recommended is excellent quality too at a fair price. Cambria was too expensive for our budget, but we found a more affordable quartz option.
    Construction Process:
Richard used a small team of skilled subs. Flooring, cabinets and trim were installed by Steve. He's a craftsman who really does a great job (and is a great guy too). He even made special cuts to make the flooring fit snugly around a very uneven/rough brick fireplace. After the floors were in, Richard put sheets of melamine over the flooring to protect it (they remained until the job was done). Plumbing and electrical were done different subs who also did great work. Richard recommended a countertop fabricator who did beautiful work.
    End Result/Final Thoughts:
Everything turned out incredibly well. I've had some bad experiences in the past, and this all turned out amazing. We're thrilled with our new kitchen. The team was great to work with. We felt like they all cared and were respectful of my home. And as a bonus, they were very friendly and nice to be around. If you are considering West End we'd offer this: Richard uses a small, reliable team and is very hands on, detailed oriented and professional. He's a busy guy too, so you will have to be patient to get on his schedule. Take your time and do it right with Richard. It's totally worth it.

  • It went great. Chris is busy but worked with me to find a time that worked for both of us. Due to some challenges in both of our schedules we split the day into two half days.
Chris did a great job and was very hardworking. I can tell his specialty is interior woodworking (trim; hanging doors, etc). The trim he did looks really professional and great. If I did it, it would have taken a full day or two but Chris is fast and has good tools to work with.
Overall, I thought the deal was a good value. It helped me get a lot of my to-do list done. And get it done well.
I'd definitely hire Chris again (and have plans to).

  • Mike was prompt and professional. ?He removed an old shed and then built a new one from a kit I had purchased at Menard's. The shed kit was sub-standard and Mike needed to make many modifications to ensure the shed was built soundly and securely. ?In addition, Mike needed to build a base on the cement slab since the slab was not the right size for the shed. Mike also built a fix to my fence so that my dog would not escape. ?I appreciated the high craftsmanship of Mike's work and his keeping me informed of the things he was doing. ?I would absolutely engage Mike again on projects in my home. ?In fact, we are in dialogue about a patio project right now.
