Hardwood Flooring reviews in Oakdale

    Brian The Floorman
Brian and his two sons did an excellent job for us. They sanded on one day then installed three polyurethane coatings on successive days. With such a large area as a floor it is not surprising to me that there were a couple of spots that needed small touch-ups. I called Brian to request this and he came out immediately and fixed them. I was impressed when he said "I am so thankful that you called me about these touch-ups". The other thing that surprised me was how little dust escaped Brian's dust containment and vacuuming systems. Brian told me that they had captured something like 47 gallons (if I remember correctly) of dust during the sanding operation. With that much dust generated, I would have thought there would have been a lot of dust that escaped their containment and vacuuming systems, however there was only very slightly more dust in the house than normal. My final comment has nothing to do with Brian, but rather is about the type of polyurethane to use. I understand there are two basic formulations, water-based and oil-based. From the research I've done online, I gather they offer similar performance but the water-based results in less coloration of the wood and faster curing times. I am glad we used the oil-based (because of the color), however the odor lingered in the house for about two weeks and bothered my spouse a bit. I would suggest you study both options and also talk with Brian about his thoughts (he will apply either).

    Anton's Floorcovering LLC
Anton gave great advice regarding our hardwood flooring and fireplace stone. He knows his craft and gives good advice. We are very happy with the results. He is a bit expensive but it is worth it!! The staff are polite and they do a great job in cleaning up after they are done.

DAVE'S FLOOR SANDING & INSTALLING INC.
The quality and outcome were excellant.  The price was better than other competitors I have contacted.  Yes it is a messy job but like the saying goes, someone has to do it.  The majority of the dust was collected by their vacuum bag but you will still have fine dust everywhere in the immediate area. They did put up a plastic barrier to keep the dust from going into the other rooms.
Because of a mix up in communication, they put down two coats of satin finish instead of two coats of semi-gloss as was written on the work order.  My wife was not happy with the look of the satin finish and preferred the semi-gloss.  Although I thought the satin looked Great!  Gives it more of a natural look.  To make a long story short, I called Dave's and they came out the next day after I called and applied a coat of semi-gloss at no charge.  At least my wife is now happy.  The floor looks great and I am not blaming Dave's for the miscommunication.  I may have been partly to blame.  A word to the wise, just be sure to read what your work order says before anyone starts a job.  We've putting this job off for a long time because we knew it was going to be messing and we would not be able to use the kitchen for a few days but after is was all said and done we are glad we finally did it.
Oh and they also replaced several boards in front of the refrigerator and patio door that were warped.  That turned out great and you can't even tell that they were replaced.  I had removed the refrigerator out for them so they could get at all the boards.  And one more thing I also raised the kitchen stove so they they could get at the 220 volt outlet that they need to plug in there sander.  Don't let that scare you though, they said if you don't have a 220 outlet that they can hook up to your main fuse panel.
Hope I didn't get too wordy but just thought the more you know the better off you will be when you tackle this job.

    Grand Woodwork & Floorsanding LLC

John came highly recommended from a personal friend.  He was the third flooring installer that we used for our project and we wish we had found him first.  He ended up coming on to the project when all of the easy work had been completed and the challenging aspects of the job were left.  He did not disappoint!  His craftsmanship became evident in areas where there was great potential for things to look less than well done.  And, in those areas he shined!  For instance, we have a double sided fireplace and on both sides he scribed the boards to the brick so that there were no gaps at all.  And, on the side of the sunken living room he framed in the raised brick hearth in a "picture frame" type of style.  It looked great.

Joints throughout the project were clean and tight.

The stairs added some extra challenge and work that he didn't anticipate but he happily tackled what needed to be done and they are beautiful!  In one riser, there were two heating vents and he precisely routed the riser so that wood registers mounted flush with the board.

Since we were installing hickory flooring, which has great variety in it, he was also interested in what boards/colors we did and did not like and installed accordingly.  He ended up not liking the quality of a portion of the previous installers work and ripped it out and replaced it without us even asking.  My husband was extremely impressed when he noticed that.

John keeps his work area neat and clean and respects that he is working in your home.  We gave him the code to our house and we were extremely comfortable letting him come and go as needed, whether we were home or not.

We are currently using him for other projects as well, which we will also be reviewing very highly.  i.e, trim work-crown moulding and base, installation of French doors

    Woodbridge Renovations
The owner Jason was not only excellent in his craftsmanship but also provided many good ideas,  We especially loved the caring way he interacted and listened both to us and our 80 year old mother.  He never hesitated when we suggested changes or added work to his original estimates and he was extremely fair in all of his pricing.  He kept us well informed of progress (especially important as we live 6 hours from out Mother) and stayed on schedule.  He went out of his way to keep things clean and to make our mother comfortable during the obvious mess that remodeling entails.  We would highly recommend this company to anyone doing remodeling and especially so if the homeowner is elderly.
