  • Blacktop Concepts did a super job and were very reasonably priced. They were not pushy like other contractors I met with and were very knowledgeable and helpful. We are extremely satisfied with their service and would recommend them to anyone !!

  • I had a bit of a tight window to get the job done, because the city is replacing my road and wanted any driveway replacements complete before the final layer of road paving was put down. Kris responded quickly to my call and was finishing up an estimate in a nearby town. We made arrangements to meet at my house an hour later to look at my driveway and get an estimate. That went smoothly, and Kris noted the subsidence at the garage apron and some slight crowning between garage and street. She said they'd cap the footings if needed, grade down to remove the crown and let water flow to the street, add a bit more class 7, and make the driveway level with the front step and the garage floor. Her bid was also the only bid that included references to nearby jobs - I had to ask for those from other companies. Price was mid-range of the estimates I received. Fairfax was able to commit to timing that worked with the city road project, and I liked what I saw when I looked at other jobs they'd done. Overall response time and information conveyed in conversations during the bidding process was very good. I was told what I needed to do prior to tear-off, what could be done between tear-off and repaving, and how long to stay off the new driveway after it was paved. The crew showed up on time on tear-off day, removed the old asphalt, graded, put down and rolled the new class 7 underlayer. About 10-14 days later was paving day, and again the crew showed up on time and put down the new driveway. I saw Kris driving the roller and checking the slope with a long level. Very happy with the new driveway, and would certainly work with Fairfax again if we needed another one.

  • Everything went well, it looked nice, until tiny cracks showed up in the entire driveway, which weren`t there before. They blamed the original company, so I called them, they said it was Aurora`s tar mixture that was at fault, Aurora still claims it isn`t their fault. All I know is that I have a crappy looking driveway.

  • I had them install a new driveway at my home. The sales person told me my driveway would look wonderful. It did until it dried and then it started cracking all over the driveway. It is not the smooth driveway I was told I would have. There is a large spot in the middle of my driveway that does not match the rest of it. I was told I could take down the tape that prevented people from driving on it and then there were car track marks. I sent them several emails and left several messages over a few weeks time. No response. I sent my sales person a email and no response. I did not pay the remainder of my bill. In September I finally received a call from my sales person looking for me to pay my bill. I told him I was not happy with my driveway he said he would go out there and look it took him over a week to make it to my house. He then emailed me and said it was normal for the driveway to crack and the big spot in the middle was were they used their hands. The car tracks were from some people spinning their tires on my driveway. I am not accepting this response as reasonable. I should have been told up front my driveway would crack, that they would use their hands on my driveway which does not make sense why they would do that in the middle of my driveway and it will not look smooth and how long I should keep the tape up to prevent car tracks on my driveway. Instead of trying to communicate with me and find a resolution they filed a mechanic's lien against my property.

  • Totally Outstanding - Most Highly Recommended. From start to finish it was very obvious that Real Seal is a family business that takes a great deal of pride in providing quality service and a quality product. When I initially called Real Seal I was extremely surprised (and pleased) that someone actually answers the phone . . . it was Jessica, the owner's wife (or co-owner of the company). Jessica was very pleasant and extremely helpful. After discussing driveway sealing for a couple minutes Jessica said somebody would get back to me by the next morning with an estimate . . . which they did. Jessica called that morning with a very fair estimate which we accepted and scheduled the work to be done the following Tuesday. Jessica said they would call on Monday to confirm the job was still on schedule because sometimes unforeseen weather conditions can cause delays . . . and just as she said, Jessica called Monday and confirmed the job was still on schedule for Tuesday and even told us that we were number 3 on the list. Then on Tuesday Dan (the owner of Real Seal) showed up as scheduled and did the driveway sealing . . . he edged both sides of the driveway, filled the cracks, and sealed the driveway . . . and did an outstanding job with every part of the job. We've had other companies do our driveway sealing in the past . . . even companies that were much larger and claimed to be the best . . . but none of them can compare to the outstanding job that Real Seal did. When it comes to driveway sealing Real Seal is the "real deal". Thank You Dan and Jessica !!

  • When I put out a call for estimates, Tony at Minta was quick to respond and easy to work with over the phone. We have a complicated driveway with some of its length adjacent a stone wall. After a summary conversation, it was easy to text images of our situation to Tony and he responded with a detailed estimate. We agreed on a price and date for the project. The evening before the scheduled day, Tony called to confirm and after a bit of prep, the driveway was done quickly and professionally. The detailed line they held against the stone wall came off very well and sets a fine contrast. I am very pleased with the quality of the work and Tony, called that evening to follow up! A job well done.

  • I was there watching for the entire job.  John was able to get the job done a few days earlier than scheduled.  The weather was with us.  Excellent crew.  Friendly, competent, skilled, and very hard working.  Knew what they were doing.  The digging out of the wet clay area was not in the original contract, but the extra cost billed was very reasonable.   The finish work  was done with care and an artist's touch.  The broom finish and saw cut expansion joints look great.  I decided to keep the driveway wet for 28 days - by covering it with burlap held down by 20 2x4s.  I watered it several times a day to keep the burlap wet.  At night when I woke, I would turn on a sprinkler for half an hour.  Concrete reaches 75% strength in 7 days and 100% in 28.  By keeping the surface covered and wet it was able to cure evenly.  A MN DOT engineer lives down the street and stopped to complement me for doing it right by covering it with burlap and keeping it wet.  The state can only get by with 7 days and 75% strength.  I bought the burlap in 5 x 60 foot  rolls on Amazon.  3 rolls for $175.00.  I overlapped the seams by a couple inches and held it in place by laying twenty 8 foot 2 x 4s over it.  Wind wasn't a problem because the burlap was wet the whole time.  I let it dry out in the sun the last day.  I then put it in plastic boxes for reuse in the future.
John and his crew are the best.  Hire him.  I got 4 quotes from Angie's List.  Two were way high and one was a couple hundred dollars less than John's.  But when I talked to John I had confidence in him and his ability and I decided to hire him.  It's nice to be happy with a decision.  It's even better to have a driveway that I almost look forward to snow blowing this winter.  The old asphalt had sink holes I would slip in.  This driveway will drain well.  The bad clay base is gone and there is 6 plus inches of recycled crushed concrete under the 5.5 inches of new concrete.
I couldn't be happier.  I had an idea of drilling into the garage floor to pin it to the new concrete.  A house down the street had done this with a new driveway a few years ago.  John explained why he never does this - it has the potential to lift the garage floor and damage it.  I followed John's advice.  The other potential contractors were willing to do this.  John's experience was very helpful in planning the work.  He knows what he is doing.  You can rely on him. He suggested burlap.  I was going to use plastic.
Hire John - Cornerstone Concrete - then keep the concrete wet and covered with burlap for 28 days after.  Any concrete expert, including John, will tell you it's the right thing to do, but hardly anyone does.  This driveway will last.

  • Our driveway was quite old and needed to be totally replaced.  Blacktop Concepts had replaced a neighbor's driveway a few years ago and they were happy with the service and their driveway looks great.  Dan had given us an estimate a year ago, but we did not replace the driveway until last fall and he honored the year old estimate!  He listened carefully to what we wanted and delivered it precisely.  He also could explain what costs are necessary and what costs can drive the price up without making a difference to the performance of the driveway. Our driveway looks great and withstood the hard winter and professional plowing without any scars.  I would definitely use this company again.

  • Ron provided us with an estimate to remove the old asphalt apron, replace it  with a concrete apron, fill the cracks of our asphalt driveway then reseal it.  This estimate included the Angie List coupon deduction I had.  After agreeing to this estimate, sending the one fourth of cost down payment, a tentative date was set.   We received a call that the work would begin as planned.  The crew to cut out and remove the old asphalt apron to our garage arrived in late afternoon on a rain threatening day.  These young workers worked swiftly and professionally  to remove the asphalt.  They continued cutting, digging, and hauling the old asphalt away even though the rain had begun along with sharp lightning.  After all parts were removed and their tools packed away, one of the young guys came back up the driveway and started sweeping up the dust and bits.  We told him the rain would wash it away and just to go get out of the storm, but he stayed to clean it all up.  After a couple of rainy days, we received a call to tell us the concrete crew would be arriving the following morning.  They arrived promptly and did some final preparation work before pouring the concrete.  The concrete apron was carefully constructed and taped off to protect it while it dried and set.   A few days later, we received another call to let us know the asphalt sealing crew would arrive the next morning to finish the job.  Again, right on time, the two young men arrived and began cleaning and preparing the driveway.  They filled in the cracks then proceeded to apply the seal coating.  We were very impressed how carefully he did all the edges and how smoothly the seal coating was spread.  We were very impressed with the professionalism, friendliness, and pride in their work that each crew displayed.  We are very pleased with our improved driveway.

  • When we called to schedule the service, the woman on the phone refused and said we are out of their service area. We told her about the prior conversation and were met with silence. She then told us to request a refund from Groupon. Nice.
Hard to say if their actual service is any good, but their professionalism and training of people who answer the phone needs work.
