From the early stages of design, Debbie was extremely receptive to our suggestions and creative in ways to limit costs while maximizing the finished product. Unlike other contractors we reached out to, she was responsive and also never made us feel like our project was too small or insignificant. The work was done on schedule and quickly. When one minor issue arose several weeks after completion, Debbie was quick to respond and remedy the issue. Fnever called me back, if these businesses are soooooo busy why not hire a couple temp workers? make more $$$ for the company, rent a couple of extra mowers, if its still busy, keep them on, instead of just ignoring people, a call back would be nice, perhaps he has someone else to suggest?

Established in 1995. Groundworks is a family owned and operated landscaping contractor, based in Hastings, Minnesota, with a reputation for beautiful, long-lasting landscapes and hardscapes.

DSmall customers are a no-go for them. Of course, we did not know this until weeks after being in email correspondence, sending them photos of ideas, having them out for a site visit, and receiving a written quote for work from them. They wasted our time in a colossal way. If your job isn't going to make them $$$, don't bother contacting them and if you do contact them for a job, be ready for your verbal estimate given at the site visit to be quite different that the written one. We know how to hire companies and others have the foresight to be honest and not waste time - if the job is too small, they just say so at the initial contact point. Not this business. They will waste your time and then after weeks of discussion and effort on everyone's part, just say, "No thanks. We can't make enough money from your job." And you are left wondering, "What just happened here?" This occurred after we asked them why their written quote was $600+ higher than the verbal estimate they gave at the site visit. When we asked them why, their response was to walk away (politely, of course, but still...). Most businesses give a verbal ballpark and when the actual written quote comes in, it's within range of that verbal quote. Not the case here. There was nothing in the ballpark of the initial verbal quote. So that is confusing too for a potential customer. And when you ask "Why?" rather than discuss more, they bolt. While companies need to make a profit, and we understand this, Groundworks just does not show respect for the "little guy" needing a small job done and apparently it is okay to waste peoples' time and make believe they matter as a potential customer. PROS: When they did come for the site visit - they were on-time. Their email response time was good too. And, Gary is friendly and helpful. He was able to see some grading issues we needed to correct, which we appreciate. CONS: The level of professionalism of treating a customer's time respectfully is absent. Be forewarned, verbal quotes may vary widely from written ones. OVERALL: We won't be looking to them in the future when we DO have larger jobs. So short-sighted. We won't be recommending them either.

Buck Landscaping is owned and operated by Nathaniel Buck. Nathaniel has an awesome work crew, and sub-contracts services when necessary. Buck Landscaping does work primarily with home owners. Building a trusted relationship with customers is very important to Buck Landscaping.

AThe job was to clear ~4500 square feet of a former perennial garden that had become a massive overgrowth of weeds. Along the way, the in-ground sprinkler system needed to be augmented with half a dozen new heads, including the lines running to them. Further, another half-dozen heads needed replacement as they were malfunctioning. I worked with the owner, Nathaniel, from estimate to job completion. He clearly answered all my questions and was able to determine what needed to be done from my basic goal statement. His crew showed up at the day and time agreed upon and set to work right away. The guys were friendly and showed attention to detail which I especially noted as they laid the sod and ensured each roll was level to adjacent rolls. Nathaniel was an expert in the bobcat and did a great job clearing out all the existing detritus to ensure no weeds would remain. The crew hand-pulled of weeds of any merit which was quite a few given the state of my yard. Overall, I am very pleased with the job they did on top of having the lowest bid. I fully recommend Buck Landscaping for any lawn and landscaping services.

AThe design was terrific and workmanship great. We now have a space to enjoy and use. As work was being done, people walking in the neighborhood would stop to compliment and asked for a business card. After the job was completed, the contractor met with us to answer any questions. Where the established lawn needed reseeding, a quality seed was used that had minimal weed contamination.

BCaleb arrived when promised, gave us an estimate and we hired Neighborhood Tree Care to remove our tree. We are pleased with their work. The reason for the 1 star rating is the customer service we received from Joe regarding the stump removal process. Joe called, angry, rude and condescending to my spouse because we left a vehicle blocking access to backyard causing them to pay grinder an extra service call/fee to come back. There was no communication as to which day/time the grinder was coming! When Joe and crew came to our home for the final cleanup, I expressed my disappointment with his angry call. Their was no apology just excuses! Our dissatisfaction comes from lack of customer service skills, poor communication and unwilingness to apologize, on Joe's part, when given the opportunity to do so!
