    Handyman Matters
Job 1: Door looks and functions very well. We are satisfied with the door, but upon completion, our garage door opener no longer worked as the contractor accidentally clipped the wire. Took over two weeks for someone to come out and get opener functional again. Part of this delay was due to some unforeseen circumstances the company experienced, but even so, two weeks seems like a long time to get someone to simply reconnect a wire.
Job 2: Very unsatisfied with this component. Contractor agreed to stain new handrail to match (as close as possible) our existing handrails.  They don't even come close to matching.  Existing hand rail was a red oak material with a dark red stain with a smooth finish and we wanted to somewhat match what was already there. Paid for contractor to do this but were left with a blonde-stained hand rail with a rough surface instead. Contractor claimed the color was as close as he could get it due to the difference in age of materials. Our intent was never to have the materials match exactly as we understood this was unrealistic. However, they are not even close: existing is dark red and smooth while new is blonde and rough. After a cursory search at a home improvement store, we are guessing the contractor just used a stain he had on hand rather than purchasing even a relatively close stain. Anyone who has seen the "match" of our handrail agrees that they could have easily been stained to better match (or we could have just done it ourselves and had better results). Furthermore, when I brought this issue up to the company they offered no assistance: they held firm that the colors matched as close as possible. See attached photo (I also emailed photo to company).  In hindsight, we should have just stained the new hand rail ourselves.
Job 3: Very satisfied with this portion.  They experienced some electrical difficulties, but completed the job as quickly as possible and cleaned everything up really well (e.g. patching tile work).
Summary:  Basically, most of the work was done in a satisfactory manner.  PROS: work was done pretty quickly, most work was done pretty well, projects were kept to the estimated cost  CONS: not taking complaint about handrail seriously (we were VERY unsatisfied with the work done on that job, which should have been the easiest of the three jobs), slow response to electrical issue caused by door installation, general over-chattiness of one of the contractors.
Update:  This job was completed in White Bear Lake, not New Ulm.

    OTTO ELECTRIC
Excellent. They are totally professional. They worked 10 hour days to get our project done on the timeline that they promised and did not go over budget. They ask ed questions if they needed clarification on how we wanted something done. They went above and beyond on the oiutside lighting on our building. The owner of Otto Electric thought the pricing for the light fixtures was way out of line so he found someone to manufacture the lights which cost us about 1/2 of what it would have cost if we just ordered them through a vendor. We will definitely use them again! We had absolutely no issues at all and they did what they said they would do in all areas of the job including showing up and finishing when they said they would.

    PAUL'S ELECTRIC INC
They were on time, they installed everything correctly, and overall, they were very professional. I would highly recommend them. I chose them because they are a wide electric company, and I’ve known the owner personally as well. Their price is very reasonable.

    N U CURRENT ELECTRIC INC
I called Nu Current Electric to help on a re-wire of an older house I was remodeling. I did a walk through with them on the house and told them what needed to be changed and what I would like to have added. After agreement on a price of $1600 I was content with the price and asked them when they could start work? They ended up 3 1/2 weeks late after numerous calls and the threat of getting someone else to do the job. I told them ahead of time that who ever tried to do this before had really did a number on it , but the whole time they were here all that I heard was complaining. The job was only scheduled for a couple days at the most but turned into a couple weeks after having to leave it half done to go finish another job that they were late on as well, and then come back. I had them come back a third time after a handful of the outlets on multiple breakers started kicking out and throwing sparks. Then when it came to the bill it was over triple what they had quoted me at first. After a few weeks of deliberation I finally got them to match the price of Otto's Electric who was my first choice, but only chose NU Current Electric because of their talks about quality, speed, and price point. Other than all the cursing and profanity that constantly kept coming out of their mouths, and the feeling that I could not trust them alone in my house; things turned out good. NEVER TRUST THIS COMPANY!
