Mortgage Lending reviews in Mounds View

I used Alerus Mortgage to refinance a 30 year mortgage to a 15 year mortgage. I chose them because of all the excellent Angie's List reviews. I worked with Kim McLean, Brigitte Heimerl and Nancy Bergdahl. All three ladies were very professional and thorough. The whole process couldn't have been any better or easier. They kept me apprised on every aspect of the refinance. All of my questions were answered promptly and thoroughly. Having to re-schedule the closing was no problem. They were even able to lock me in at a lower rate than the original estimate. I am extremely satisfied with the whole refinance from start to finish. I would not hesitate to use them again and I highly recommend them.

This mortgage company was very efficient and fast at taking our information but then wanted a $500 "committment" to a debit or credit card so they wouldn't do the work of preparing a proposal for us without pay. The woman I spoke with wanted to call back at a time that same day when both my husband and i could be on the call so we could make our decision on the spot upon hearing her numbers for us. This seemed a little strange to me. When I said considering the Thanksgiving holiday and wanting to discuss this after hearing her porposal it would be ok for her to just give me the information, she said she could call a different day with the bid when we could both be there. I definitely felt she was looking to have us make a decision without due consideration, not something that I would expect from a highly rated Angie's list company. Two days later we received a call from her superior, he called early in the day and had a radio going in the background. He wanted to know what was keeping us from "going forward" with this process. I let him know he had awakened me and this didnt seem to make any difference to him as he did not offer to call later, but pushed on. When I explained I could hear the offer they had put together and my husband and I discuss it and get back to him the same say, he said I must not understand how this process works, that for us to discuss it and call back even the same day was not acceptable to their process that he continually told me "works". He asked weren't we serious about refinancing, saying maybe we were not the right sort of clients for them. As I offered to take the information again and we would get back to him the same day, he decided this was the case, told me so and ended the call. I continue to be amazed that such a company is rated A on this list. I hope others who have had similar experiences will add their reports here.

My Fianc? and I are a young couple and we found a great fixer upper for forty percent of what it had been bought for previously. So?I was referred to Kevin Quast at the Bloomington Countrywide office for a FHA 203K Loan. That?s the home repair loan where you add the cost of the rehab to the mortgage. We had been working with another Mortgage Broker who was not certified for that type of loan. This is a loan that takes a while to complete so from the beginning I was in a hurry due to the time sensitive nature of our home?s sales contract. After receiving all of my loan information, Kevin ignored my calls for over a week to both his company and cell lines. He then sent me an email saying his cell had problems because of Verizon. I don?t know why his office line didn?t work. After another week of two calls a day to Kevin, I threatened to find a new company to handle our loan. I received his first phone call ever @ 7:15 AM on a Friday while I was in the shower, needless to say he didn?t pick up my repeated attempts to call him back. A few days after this I finally got a hold of him and he promised that he had already started work on it and for us to stay with him. I took him at his word and gave him another chance I then finished all the steps he asked I do like paying for a 203K consultant who was actually quite professional and helpful(in retrospect that is why we stayed with Kevin). After this, another two weeks went by because Kevin was on vacation and doing training. He then decided to tell us that our cosigner was invalid as he was not a blood relative. This was day 38 he had our materials (I found out later that anyone worth their salt in the industry should have caught this day 1). I then amended the contract to solve the problem and got all of the information to Kevin and a week and a half went by. I was talking to Kevin and he seemed to not have a basic understanding of our loan so after some prodding I found out that he had not even started our underwriting and that it would take another 45 to 60 days from that point and that we needed to pay an extra point of interest and that our loan was almost a full point above par. By the way it says our contract expiration date in three places on the contract including in bold on the front page. At this point we had seven days left on our contract Countrywide had our information for 60 days and did nothing. We could have paid another $1,125 upfront and hope that HUD would grant us 3 extensions which if it didn?t work would mean we had nowhere to live and have no money left for a new house. We were forced to walk away from the $2,000 we had invested in this and look elsewhere. I cannot stress how important finding someone who is honest and actually picks up your calls really is.

Joe gave me a call a few days after I requested more information from his website. His website stated that I'd hear back from someone in about an hour's time, but as the day went by and I didn't receive a call back from him, I gave up and began shopping elsewhere. Two days later, Joe gave me a call to discuss my interest. I told him that I had already gone with another lender after shopping around, but he proceeded to casually chat with me about the mortgage process and provided some useful information from an insider in the industry. He's a very knowledgeable individual and you can tell that he is very passionate about his work. He knew that I had already gone with another lender, but still spent a considerable time with me on the phone explaining mortgages and how the business works. He is an upfront mortgage lender and you can truly tell that he works on behalf of his clients for their best interests, not his. I know if I were shopping for a loan again, I'd call Joe first.

I couldn't ask for better service. There were no suprises, let-downs, miscommunication or mistakes. Everything went extremely well each time. I recommend Roger highly. He's a wonderful person and will get the job done for you without the usual runaround and hassles that most people seem to go through.
