  • Michael showed up when he said he would and repaired the damage to our satisfaction. When the patches were repaired he not only painted the skylight area but he painted the entire hallway. Above and beyond what we expected. He also gave us a huge discount in price.

  • I DO NOT recommend this company to anyone! I have had several issues with them. Here are my complaints:
    I needed an emergency replacement garage door, so they came out to inspect. (To their credit, they came out that same day I called, but this is the ONLY good thing they did!) I was then told via phone that they got the specs on my door & would order an exact replacement. They said it'd arrive in approximately 2 weeks. 3 MONTHS (& several phone calls) later they finally came to install the door while I was at work. I came home that night to find a door that was completely different than what I believed was ordered! After speaking with a manager, he admitted he never came to my site so he just ordered the door his field rep suggested. Unbelievable!! When I stated I didn't want to pay for a door I didn't want, I was essentially told there was nothing they could do because the door was "already installed" & it was now my door. Excuse me?! Is this the way you want to do business?!
    They also didn't complete the job that day, as they left all the damaged weather stripping from the old door, & also did not install the new rubber seal along the sides of the door. I was told it was "too cold outside" to install them at that time. (It's MN, but it was above freezing the day they came.)
    Since I didn't have the time/budget to deal with buying another (correct) door, I paid a portion of the bill, but did not pay in full since the job was not 100% complete. The company then mailed me several billing statements with interest charges since I had not paid in full within 30 days. I called for each billing statement (5 times) & was told each time that the finance charges would be removed. Yet EACH & EVERY consecutive bill had additional finance charges. This went on for 6 months.
    When they finally came to complete the job, they wasted no time & sent me a bill 1 week later asking for payment in full, plus interest. I'm am stilll waiting to speak to management to correct this issue.
    My advice--stay FAR away from this company so you don't have to deal with their poor business practices!! You have been warned!!

  • Rob Dunham, Owner of All-Star Basements, that performed work in my home specified under a design draw-up and pricing estimate from his previous employer, American Waterworks sump-pump company, as if they were executing the project. He never disclosed he was no longer with American Waterworks and that I would not be getting the product and services previously drawn up. He had me believe he was still employed with American Waterworks and that I was entering the contractual agreement previously drawn up that detailed this specific companys? product and services that I wanted. He did NOT obtain a permit to perform the work in my basement and now will not return my calls to fix the broken siding on my house caused by his crew and I have an unsightly exit hose on my house which would have been underground drainage had the RIGHT company done the work. I was definitely taken advantage of. I wouldn't wish this on anyone else. I see these other reviews talk about inspections, not only was an inspector never sent to look at the work but they did not take pictures of the project to supply to an inspector afterwards.
    I have asked Rob to replace the siding and fix the drainage water. He made one attempt to rectify by sending out an outside plumber to tack on an extension hose but my siding is still cracked and broken and my calls have been ignored for 3 weeks. I had another contractor come out to take a look and it appears the sump pump installed is USED and the battery backup was installed BACKWARDS. I?m now having to pay for another company to come out and check if my sewer line was ruptured during this project because of drain issues and not to mention the smell! I would not recommend this company to anyone.  With his kind of morals, it?s a sad way to make a living.

    I've also contacted the Department of Labor and they've confirmed there is no existing license for Rob or All-Star basements to perform any kind of work. I've now confirmed that my sewer line has been ruptured and both lines of the drainage tile are either collapsed or filled with rocks. In addition, they installed a used rusty sump pump! This company should be removed from Angie's list so he cannot do this to any one else.

    New Addition from Company's response:
     First, the crew DID NOT show up in a company truck. It was
    an unmarked truck with an open trailer towed behind it. I did initial a
    pre-work sheet that had All-Star basements company name on it which I
    overlooked simply because I thought I was getting the company that I had
    researched, had other friends and co-workers references for and ultimately
    picked.  I also initialed their sheet
    after the work, however, they made no mention that they damaged my siding and
    did not review anything down outside of my basement. They also did not instruct
    that I needed to attach any type of hose or PVC pipe to draw water away from my
    house. It was the poor execution of this project that opened up the flood gates
    to finding more problems.

    Four weeks after initial installation the sump pump cover
    was removed and it was discovered the pump was rusty and used. This 4 week
    timeframe during March there was no opportunity for the pump to be under water
    let alone for the cast iron to rust! All-Star basements had to have a plumber
    come out to my house after my insistence because water was pouring down my
    basement well window and into my basement.

    My phone calls were unreturned for 3 weeks while I was
    following up on getting my siding fixed. A day after I created the BBB
    complaint, the office manager of All-Star basements contacted me but knew
    nothing of my issues. She followed up with Rob and said that he could only find
    a company that fixed steel siding not vinyl. She also offered me $100 to fix it
    myself, which I declined.

    It is just NOW 2 months out from this project being
    completed, and I have water coming up from the floor (even after a light rain sprinkle) where they trenched and
    through the capped toilet as the water has nowhere to go.
    The company I hired
    to thread a camera through the sewer line and sump pump trenching showed that
    one side had completely caved in and another was plugged up with rocks.
    Additionally discovered that they punctured the sewer line. I provided a DVD
    copy of this to the insurance adjuster.

    Bottom line, this company would have never been allowed to
    do work in my home if Rob Dunham was not operating under the guise of American
    Waterworks. I made the mistake of calling the number on my estimate that turned
    out to be his cell phone and not American Waterworks company. He asked me for
    that original design layout and estimate paperwork from American Waterworks
    because he was traveling and didn't have access to it. Why would he need this
    if I was getting All-Star Basements services?? If I wanted All-Star basements
    to perform the work I would have called them and asked for an estimate. I would
    NOT have an unknown company that I had not previously researched, perform work
    in my home. Rob had every opportunity to disclose his company to me but instead
    chose to make a quick buck.

  • The whole experience with Distinctive Stone went seamlessly!

    First, I needed to choose a stone. The office manager reviewed many, many options at their varying prices. It was a long process, and she was helpful, kind, and patient while I reviewed my options. I wanted a light color and was getting frustrated trying to find a light one in my price range. Finally, we agreed on a viscont white. I was sent pictures of both a finished product and what the slab looked like. I then compared price options using my local dealers. Their bids were much higher by quite a ways. Then I made my way to their Roseville office (3-1'2 hours away) to see the stone in person. I automatically knew it was perfect for my job. 

    One of the fabricators cut a large sample from the slab to bring home. He was very friendly & knowledgeable. I kept it on my old countertop ever since dreaming of the installation. The office manager brought me back to her office while we talked final prices. She helped me choose a sink and faucet. We found a them on for a lower price, so I ordered those. 

    A week or so later, a fabricator made the long trip to do the measurements. He said I could keep my existing countertops on until installation. He noticed I ordered the wrong sink, so I shipped it back for free, and the office manager found another one at a lower price and ordered the necessary items to bring to the installation.

    When it came time to install, two fabricators arrived early in the morning. They handled every detail professionally with the same attention to detail given when the tops were custom fabricated. They were kind, and demonstrated that they had the experience to do a top-notch job. When everything was absolutely perfect, they left a few hours later. 

    The best part though is the finished product. It was more than a Dream-Come-True; absolutely gorgeous; more beautiful that I could ever imagine!

    I would recommend using Distinctive Stone without any hesitation knowing you will be in for a pleasant experience and a quality product at a very reasonable price.

  • Called for an estimate and came over and looked at the project and gave us an estimate the same night.  They smoothed the walls and put two coats of paint on.  They finished everything up in one day.  Everything looked great.  Was very happy with the experience and the price.

  • Was very responsive to our needs. Provided us with an accurate estimate quickly and began work almost immediately. Took care of removing all old shingles, siding, gutters. Picked up nails around the property. Knew we had a deadline for appraisal and the construction crew worked through freezing rain/sleet and wind to complete the project. Missed removing one old gutter from our property and came within 24 hours to remove for us. Met our request to provide us with a new/detailed invoice for insurance purposes within 36 hours. Construction crew worked quickly with minimal interruption to us.

  • Due to extensive flooding in our area, we had to completely gut our basement and start fresh. The previous owners did nothing right. Paul came in and explained everything that he would recommend doing. He didn't oversell us on stuff we didn't need and was straight forward on the process. He did a great job working with us along the way on where we were, what was going on and what still needed to be done. He even worked with us to find the least expensive (not cheap) options for materials, which I've never had before. All in all it was the best construction experience we've ever had.

  • Two of the three doors installed OK. The door requiring widening was a mess. Foam filler spilled onto new door and onto carpet. New frame created but the 45 degree angles did not match up. Scratches on door. Appears the door was a difficult install, but maybe frustration got in the way of quality craftsmanship.

  • Clay Rosa Came over measured the space and listened to my ideas for the space! Took those numbers and ideas with him and we met a week later. He showed me several computer models of kitchen options. I chose the ones I prefered. Then we looked at cabinet options and styles and woods and colors. Counter tops, sinks, floors coverings and pullouts for inside the cabinets. They created a space that is useful and looks great! They stayed within the budget I set and gave me a kitchen I LOVE!

  • Matt Coequyt, Owner, id all the work himself and recommended better solutions for our bathroom.  Cleaned up after the job - made the replacement shower better than the previous.  Matt corrected previous errors in installation (unlevel floor) that caused problems with the existing shower.  Matt was great about keeping us informed on his progress and finished the job quickly without hassle.
