    I was looking for something other than physical therapy to help strengthen my back, which needed a 2nd surgery but I was trying to delay as long as possible.  I started with pilates and had excellent success managing my symptoms until the surgery was inevitable.  However, I made an incredible come-back post-op and was back to my routine 4 weeks after spine fusion.

    I can't say enough about how well my trainer knows my back (better than I do, I believe) and what things work and don't work.  I have moved on to a combination of personal training and pilates and have no plans to change my workouts there.

    The atmosphere is casual and uncomplicated--no memberships, so if you don't have an appointment or class, there aren't people coming in off the street to work out.  The personal attention is fantastic and trainers are able to sub for each other without interruption to the client schedule.

    Classes are wonderful.  The teachers - especially Allison and Gabbi - are friendly with the kids and have appropriate expectations.  The cost of the classes is reasonable.  The "recital" is suitably low-key.  The only down side is that the waiting room area is super crowded during times where classes let out and new classes start.  I highly recommend!

    I’ve been going to them for 2 years. They are very good and they are busy. I’ve not personally used their trainers but they have 5 or 6 of them but they do have the latest equipment. I’m giving it free for silver slippers.

    It went very well. The staff at the front desk were all eager to help and were quite polite. The doctor's nurse came and got me in a reasonable time. The nurse was very nice, as was the doctor. We had a lot to discuss because I have so many health issues, but we actually got through the entire list of items I had written down to discuss with her (Dr. Cathleen Clouse). She was on her toes and made quick referrals where needed, reviewed my medications, added some supplements, had blood drawn to check EVERYTHING and I am now on my way to better health. So far, I have found everyone she sent me to for other care to be just as nice and helpful as she is. I am very happy with her care and that of all others at HealthEast (the lab attendants, x-ray technicians, audiologist, and rheumatologist), plus Minnesota Women's Care, Noron Neurological Clinic, MMHC, and the St. Paul Eye Clinic.

    I had not used personal training at all up until this point. I always relied on examples from others, my past experience and what I have read to design my workouts. Design is a strong word because I did what most people do, take a look at the machines and do what I am used to and feels the most glamorous without any kind of plan or log.
    It was from a recommendation that I started working with Seth and the recommendation came from some else based on their experience with him. I had no idea what to expect from him so when he asked me how I wanted to design my workouts I told him to take the wheel.
    I have been working with Seth once a week consistently for about five months. He pushes me farther than I ever imagined I could go in my workouts. He tailors each workout to maximize the time we have and to acheive the greatest physical effect.
    I warned Seth when we started that I would not tolerate what I had observed from most of the other personal trainers in that gym. I would not tolerate him talking on or using his cell phone during our workouts. I would not wait for him to have a conversation with other members or employees while we were on the clock and I expected him to be punctual. He took my conditions seriously and has exceeded my expectations.
    Seth loves what he does and he guarantees he will provide more value than his clients pay for. Personal training is a big investment both in monetary value and commitment. I highly recommend personal training in general but even more so I recommend Seth Greenwald as a personal trainer.

    I have been using the Center several times a week for the past ten years. Recently the facility was remodeled and a big effort was made to bring more senior citizens into the Center. I have made use of one of the personal trainers to develop an individualized program of aerobic exercise and weight training. The staff has given us the opportunity to have most of our monthly fee paid by our supplemental insurance company.

    If health insurance didn't reimburse us a portion of our membership fees, we'd look for another fitness center. Our rates recently went up but the quality of services hasn't. While the fitness center obtained some new equipment, it still lacks decent circulation upstairs in the workout area. The ceiling fans are ineffective and they refuse to install big floor fans or some type of circulation system. In the summers, the heat is unbearable! They are not responsive to member complaints. They have clipboards where members can state problems with machinery. Often they ignore the comments/complaints. I've even left voice-mail messages for higher ups and they haven't returned my calls. It seems that their suggestion box is ineffective as well. My comments were never responded to. Childcare is mediocre. If you have a family membership, you pay $20/month for up to 1 1/2 hours of childcare per day. There are a few competent childcare workers who actually love their job which is caring for the children. Some of the childcare workers prefer to text and talk on their cell phones. Again, complaints or suggestions are rarely considered or handled. TV is used a lot in the childcare room. This is ridiculous since there are so many fun books and toys that the children would rather play with. While MCC offers a great variety of fitness classes, they are starting to charge for a lot of them ($50+). Many people can't afford these fees, in addition to the membership fee.

    I Love this place, This is not your trendy ''fitness facillity'' Everyone from the staff to people who work out here are very friendly. I have been in Gym's all over North America and I have yet to see another gym with as much equipment as this place. Funny to see Grandmothers working out next to Competive bodybuilders. Great Atmosphere.

    We repurchased an older Bally's contract with a great monthly rate so the price is good. This location and its equipment seems a bit run down compared to other facilities in the area. The kids club has been good for keeping our children busy while we work out, sometimes it seems too crowded but recent experiences have been good. In addition this is one of the few fitness chains that does not participate in major health insurance fitness reimbursement programs. If I was signing up as a new member I would not choose this club.

    I've been taking my kids to the Maplewood Community Center for almost a year now for swim lessons. We've done lessons at other places in the past, none as good as MCC. The class size is great. There are 2 instructors for the lower level class. The lesson is held even if just 1 or 2 kids show up. The instructors are young but very committed to what they do. They are very enthusiastic with the kids and flexible too. When my 3 yr old wanted to switch classes to have a 'girl' teacher, they had no problem with that. The pool there is a zero depth pool (gets deeper gradually, like a lake), which makes the kids very comfortable in the water. The cost is $59 for one kid (non-member) per 8 week session.
