Fireplace Repair reviews in Fridley

I purchased a deal on Angie's list, and was contacted via e-mail and instructed to call to set up an appointment as the dates I suggested had some openings.  I called on 1/6 and was able to get an appointment for 1/7, with a window of time between 12-2pm.  Dave showed up just after 12pm, he was very nice, professional and friendly.  He interacted with my two small children with comfort and was full of tips and information for me.

I couldn't wish for a better visit, we had a fire that afternoon and toasted up some s'mores.

It took them a long time to get out here. I don't like or dislike him. The tech who came out was professional. They had to send a rep the second time. The person didn't listen to me the first time with what I thought was wrong with it. They tried to fix something else. It didn't work after they left so I had somebody come back a couple of months later.

I had Center Point Energy out to replace a part on the fireplace the week after Anderson "cleaned" it and they said the unit was filthy and pointed out all the spots Anderson missed. I had to go back in and vacumn fireplace again to get what Anderson missed. They didn't do a very good job.

Condor was prompt in coming out to give me an estimate and then in scheduling the work.  I was able to negotiate a price reduction based on offers from a competitor.  Condor is a privately owned company, which I like.  The actual fireplace had to be ordered from the manufacturer, which took about two weeks.  Once the fireplace unit was installed, a custom surround had to be ordered and built, which took an additional three weeks.  Once the unit and the surround were available, Condor was prompt in coming out to do the installation.  The unit is working well and I was overall very pleased with Condor.

I got an estimate from Fireside Hearth & Home, but decided to go with a different company.  Fireside's estimate was actually lower than the one I chose, but the recommended fireplace was going to require considerable modifications to fit into my space.  The particular fireplace was on sale, so was being promoted. It had a gas ignition vs. electric, which was promoted as being a good idea in the event of a power outage.  I learned from the other company that the electric versions include battery back-ups so that would not be an issue anyway.  I was also not told of a $75 rebate from Xcel Energy for buying the electric, greener version.  The salesman was very professional, friendly, and knowledgeable, but I just came away with a better feeling about the other company.

From the first visit (estimate) to the final cleanup, their workmanship and professionalism were outstanding.   They had  an opportunity to "pad their bill" and didn't .  Chris was very honest & knowledgeable.  They were timely, courteous and cleaned up after themselves, and the end results are absolutely beautiful.  We're very pleased and would definitely recommend these guys.

The gentleman who owns the company did almost all of the work himself. He was extremely picky. He directed me to all of the right places to pick out granite and woods. He had wonderful ideas for architectural designs. I met him about a year ago now. He is such a friendly, nice gentleman. All of a sudden one Sunday morning his wife was here working on the deck. They sent me flowers. I am featured in one of his brochures and was on television up here. He also puts on question and answer programs about designing on the radio. He is one of the top-notch guys who does all of the designing for a lot of the big hotels downtown. No job is too little for him. He is extremely knowledgeable. If there was more than an A, I would give them more of an A for everything. I got top-notch materials for the price. He would pass on his builders discount to me, which I thought was wonderful. He always had a connection for specialty things, like lights I wanted. He is a very honest and trustworthy person. He fixed up tons of little things for no cost. This spring he power washed my house for free, just to make sure it was clean. As soon as I get some more money, I intend to use them again. I hope somebody uses him. He is one of the best around. You don't have to worry about anything with him. He is a church-going guy, and integrity is a big word for him.

We obtained quotes from Fireside Hearth and Home and one the vendor. Fireside was the least expensive by about $600 for the two units so we went with them. The savings included the local city building permit which they took care of obtaining. One unit included a blower; the other unit had no blower. Fireside handles only the Heat and Glo brand whereas the other vendor handled multiple brands but we didn't see this as a positive. The Heat and Glo brand is made in Minnesota which we felt was a positive if we ever needed parts. We provided measurements of our existing fireplace when we went into the store. The salesperson Dave was very low key and enjoyable to work with. I considered using a wood pellet insert for one of the fireplaces but the salesperson talked me out of it after looking at the efficiency and cost and handling issues with wood pellets. A technician then came to our house later to verify these measurements and look at the requirments for bringing a natural gas line to the two fireplaces. The installers came about two weeks later. They were very tidy laying down sheets over our carpeting. They removed the existing fireplace screens and disposed of them. They were very professional. They also pressurized the gas lines with air as part of the building inspection pressure check and then scheduled a local inspector to verify the absence of leaks. A week later a Fireside technician came and made the final gas connections to the units and gave us an in-service on using the inserts. Overall, the process took about 4 weeks some of which was our scheduling.

Victor was on time, very polite, efficient and informative about how to best maintain our fireplaces. He made recommendations for potential problems, best type of wood to burn and how often to clean again (every 2 cords of wood or every 3-4 years). They thoroughly cleaned up everything they worked on - no remaining soot or tracking.

The tech was quick and efficient. Did a very good job. I was late and the tech was very kind about that - I appreciate his courtesy
