From the early stages of design, Debbie was extremely receptive to our suggestions and creative in ways to limit costs while maximizing the finished product. Unlike other contractors we reached out to, she was responsive and also never made us feel like our project was too small or insignificant. The work was done on schedule and quickly. When one minor issue arose several weeks after completion, Debbie was quick to respond and remedy the issue. Business Description:
We do all our work "in-house" without sub-contracting. I found that its easier to hire the skills needed as employees rather than sub-contractors. We warranty all of our work from 1 year for plants to a lifetime for most hardscapes.

AAbsolutely amazing! Don and his team do beyond professional and the highest quality work. We built a new home with an unusable backyard because of the severe slope down into a wetland pond. Don created an absolutely beautiful design for our whole yard. It included a rock retaining wall to separate the wetland pond, and provide for a level backyard to entertain and enjoy with. It includes a patio with intricate design, with steps that went down to a lower level gas fire pit area. Planted over 30 trees with wonderful combinations of pine trees, maple and others. Creatively designed perennials, shrubs and bushes throughout the yard, with boulders scattered throughout. He installed lighting to enhance trees and many uplighting spots. We can not even begin to say how much we love our yard, being outdoors all of the time, and nightly fires. We live in a newer development near a walking path, and we get compliments even still and constantly about how beautiful his work was. Don has a gift of design, with attention to detail in everything. His team cleans up every single night. They even swept our city street from any mulch or dirt that may have scattered. His entire team is respectful. Our neighbors actually sought us out to tell us they were impressed with the crew, as they never saw them sitting doing nothing, except to eat lunch. FTerrible - Jordan called right away but ended up cancelling 3 times with the last one being a no call/no show with no more communication ever. I had to totally restart the process and my yard suffered a lot in the dry heat and is still recovering. Absolutely terrible service.

Established in 1995. Groundworks is a family owned and operated landscaping contractor, based in Hastings, Minnesota, with a reputation for beautiful, long-lasting landscapes and hardscapes.

DSmall customers are a no-go for them. Of course, we did not know this until weeks after being in email correspondence, sending them photos of ideas, having them out for a site visit, and receiving a written quote for work from them. They wasted our time in a colossal way. If your job isn't going to make them $$$, don't bother contacting them and if you do contact them for a job, be ready for your verbal estimate given at the site visit to be quite different that the written one. We know how to hire companies and others have the foresight to be honest and not waste time - if the job is too small, they just say so at the initial contact point. Not this business. They will waste your time and then after weeks of discussion and effort on everyone's part, just say, "No thanks. We can't make enough money from your job." And you are left wondering, "What just happened here?" This occurred after we asked them why their written quote was $600+ higher than the verbal estimate they gave at the site visit. When we asked them why, their response was to walk away (politely, of course, but still...). Most businesses give a verbal ballpark and when the actual written quote comes in, it's within range of that verbal quote. Not the case here. There was nothing in the ballpark of the initial verbal quote. So that is confusing too for a potential customer. And when you ask "Why?" rather than discuss more, they bolt. While companies need to make a profit, and we understand this, Groundworks just does not show respect for the "little guy" needing a small job done and apparently it is okay to waste peoples' time and make believe they matter as a potential customer. PROS: When they did come for the site visit - they were on-time. Their email response time was good too. And, Gary is friendly and helpful. He was able to see some grading issues we needed to correct, which we appreciate. CONS: The level of professionalism of treating a customer's time respectfully is absent. Be forewarned, verbal quotes may vary widely from written ones. OVERALL: We won't be looking to them in the future when we DO have larger jobs. So short-sighted. We won't be recommending them either.
