  • In August of 2017, I hired Northrup Remodeling to complete an extensive remodeling project (attached garage, master bathroom, bedroom conversion into a walk-in closet and 2nd floor laundry room, new driveway, backyard brick patio, siding for the entire house, exterior window painting and, repairs on a number of “deferred-maintenance” items within the house). Ron Burgess was the project manager. Northrup Remodeling did an outstanding job. More specifically, Ron Burgess and all of the subcontractors that he assigned to the project were professional, courteous, dedicated and delivered a product that exceeded my expectations in a number of instances. Ron worked tirelessly behind the scenes to coordinate all of the work, was incredibly responsive to all my questions and, provided me with invaluable advice and insight. In a number of instances, Ron’s insight and advice spared me from wasting money on unnecessary work and yielded aesthetic outcomes that were better than I could have imagined. / / / / / / / / / DETAIL / / / / / / In August of 2017, I hired Northrup Remodeling to complete the following: • Tear down a detached two car garage and rebuild an attached two car garage in its place; • Tie the new garage into a pre-existing mudroom (entailed a small expansion of the existing mudroom); • Full demolition and rebuild of the master bathroom; • Conversion of a bedroom into a walk-in closet for the master bedroom and a second floor laundry room; • One window replacement; • Installation of new siding on the entire house; • Exterior painting of all windows, chimneys and brick facade; • Replacement of brick driveway with a concrete driveway; • Removal and reinstallation of brick patio in the back of the house; • Demolition and replacement of front brick walkway; • Repair of deferred-maintenance items (railing and balusters, screen door, foyer tile and grout lines, door handles, interior doors, kitchen sink, cabinet drawers, etc.) Interior construction concluded by January 2018. Following a break for winter, the remaining exterior work was completed by July 2018. Ron Burgess was the Northrup supervisor for the entire project. My experience with Northrup was fantastic and working with Ron was a joy. Ron brought to bear the skills and abilities of subcontractors that provided a high level of quality work and professionalism. At the outset of the project, Ron set out a timetable for the start and expected completion dates for each part of the project. Ron started the project on time and kept everything moving along so that the project finished within expectations. Moreover, any time I had a question, Ron was readily available and promptly addressed any issues to my full satisfaction. Ron also brought to bear the expertise of Kathleen Winter (interior designer) and Richard Groh (architect). Ron, Kathleen and Richard worked extraordinarily well together during the project. In every instance, they were able to suggest great ideas, integrate the goals/desires I had for the finished product and, most important, they dissuaded me from making certain design/material choices that I now realize would have been a huge mistake. Throughout the entire project, I was very impressed with the subcontractors Ron selected for the work. In every one of my interactions with the subcontractors, I found them to be professional, courteous, excited about their work and committed to delivering an outcome that in many instances surpassed my expectations. When each subcontractor started their part of the project, they stayed on the project until it was completed – in a number of instances, working far later in the day than I would have reasonably expected or, working on the weekends.

  • Tom and his crew did a good job. He was flexible with the dates due to rain and coordinating the seal-coating with another company laying asphalt. He was a good communicator always replying to my calls or e-mails in a timely fashion.. and pleasant to speak with. The job looks good... the driveway was really dirty and they did their best to clean it and said they could touch it up if some of the seal coat doesn't stick. I would hire again and recommend him to friends & family.

  • They delivered exactly what they said. They had the lowest price and despite the weather it was mostly on time. There were no extras or frills and thats okay because I wanted the best bang for my buck.

  • I received a prompt estimate to replace a 2-car driveway and told that there may be an issue with the cement blocks just under the end of the concrete garage slab. I was told in advance that most blocks degrade of over the years due to road salt getting into the joint of the driveway and garage floor. This would be an additional cost, but without it, the driveway would eventually sink again. I liked that this company advised me on this because in the long run it pays off very well. The crew came to remove the old driveway. They were friendly, thorough, and made the job look easy so that means they were very experienced. The base is prepared and left for about 2 weeks. Then a crew came out to pour concrete to fortify the wall under the garage floor. After that was done, Wayne called to schedule the new driveway and said the crew would be at the house at about mid-day. So noon went past, then 1:30 and I decided to call but they were out doing other jobs and couldn't hear calls coming in. At 2:30 I left a message with Mike, Wayne's son. Then I tried calling one of the offices. It turns out that person just happened to leave early that day to attend an event. Bottom line, I was called back to say they were on the way and I had been scheduled as the 4th and final job of the day so they couldn't have gotten here much sooner. Wayne apologized for the misunderstanding and I was just glad they were there to put the driveway in. So all was well, we had a laugh at my office call coming in on the rare day when someone left early. (Series of unfortunate events :) The driveway looks fantastic! I now know that the foundation by the garage floor will prevent the top of the driveway from sinking again. A new driveway really drastically affects the curb appeal of the house. I had an Angie's list coupon and that helped with the additional expense of the concrete poured to shore up the foundation wall. I would highly recommend this company. Great crew, great job.

  • We have worked with Richfield Blacktop & Concrete for years and every experience has been great. We had them do asphalt work before they replaced our driveway with cement. We've since had them out to tint/seal a few times and the results are always amazing. The owner and crew at Richfield Blacktop and Concrete are all very respectful, detail oriented and extremely easy to reach. I highly recommend calling them if you want work done by true professionals!

  • Took a while to schedule. Once scheduled, they arrived promptly, and completed the sealing on time. They cleaned out the cracks, edged the driveway, swept the driveway, and then applied sealer as per quote. No problems, quality job. Last sealed 3+ years ago by Assured. Seal coat lasts 3-4 years on my driveways. Seal coat make removal easier. Note: use snowblower on dirveway; also occasional plowing service. Both scrape surface. Truck mounted snow plows **** ** sealcoating.

  • We were able to have our driveway done in very short notice and we greatly appreciated that. I was able to monitor everything they did from our cameras and they were in and out in about 30 minutes. Very detailed with the two of them working and a few special requests I asked for they were able to accommodate. Will definitely have them come back again.

  • Scott got back to me right away and was able to quickly get me an estimate. I decided to hire him, and he was extremely punctual and professional. You can tell that he's been doing this for a long time because he can work fast and does an excellent job. I can be picky, but my driveway looks great, the lines are clean, and not a single drop of sealcoating is anywhere that it shouldn't be. He seems to take great pride in his work, which can be hard to find these days. I will definitely be using Scott again and would recommend him to anyone. I've had to hire quite a few contractors to do various jobs over the years, and I certainly haven't always been pleased with the end result. Even when they do a good job, I'm hesitant to recommend them to others unless I'm really impressed. Every aspect of dealing with Scott impressed me, and I can't recommend him enough. If you need sealcoating and don't know who to call, Scott at C&J should definitely be on your list.

  • Great! I called and set up an appointment. I did not have to be home, but my neighbors told me they were quick, professional, and loved the results. I'm very happy with the way the driveway looks too. Would hire them again.

  • We met with Steve Walker to review and provide a proposal for the job. At first we were looking at asphalt, but converted the planned project to concrete for the benefits of concrete driveway and matching parking pad on side of garage. Steve was the absolute professional with a positive attitude, very knowledgeable approach, and a great (and appropriate) sense of humor. We have a paver apron and somewhat complex paver walk that we wanted to preserve. With the shift from asphalt to concrete, those pavers would have to be adjusted to meet the straighter forms used for concrete and a different elevation necessary to achieve level grade and slope from the settled 40-year-old driveway. We did discuss adjusting and resetting the pavers as an option with Steve but he reluctantly informed us that they do not perform paver work. We were ready to choose Aurora based on a competitive price and by far the best proposal process and proposal deliverable out of the 5 contractors that bid the job. We did select a contractor that could manage all the elements of driveway and pavers (they installed our 850 square foot patio in 2016) and would not require me to spend time securing additional resources, a separate contractor, or doing it myself. That was the ONLY reason we did not select Aurora. We actually had to spend a bit more on the concrete portion to secure a contractor that would handle the job turnkey. That was a hit to the pocketbook, but a big value in time and energy for us to find a paver resource that could do all the work in one visit with one team. Summary: We did not move the project past proposal, but the process and pricing to that point were top of the list. Steve and Ron at Aurora were very professional and very fair. Even in the face of changes from asphalt to concrete, and a separate trip out to the house to evaluate a different plan for concrete and dealing with pavers, there was no complaint or pressure. I'm very familiar with construction and concrete, but did not tout that. Steve did not try to "sell" me on a different approach. He only demonstrated a helpful, advisory, friendly, and knowledgeable demeanor. I wish I could work with more people and contractors like Steve and Aurora.
