    Heartwood Construction Inc
My wife and I had the opportunity to meet Lonny around late September and in October we signed our contract to have Heartwood Construction  finish our basement and build a deck.  We could not be happier with the work that Heartwood construction completed.  The basement is our favorite part of the house now and the quality of the work stands alone compared to the rest of the house.  We moved into a new house in September and while Heartwood finished our basement they even took care of a few existing problems that the original builder had left.  I have never trusted a contracting crew more in my house then I did with
Heartwood.  They were always polite and professional and a joy to be around.  Lonny was always very open and upfront about all areas of the project including pricing. We have built two homes and had other work done before and this is the first
time that absolutely no surprises showed up downstream of the start date.  All promises were fulfilled and no price was
changed for the worse.  Estimate of project length was almost spot on and we also were kept in loop with the schedule and schedule changes.  If we ever have any future house keeping needs we are at ease knowing that we have met such a reliable and great company.
    Thank you.

The roofing job went fine. They did exactly what I had asked them to do and they did it well. They are a good company. I have had good success with them all the time. I have been here for twenty years, so they did the first remodeling twenty years ago and then last remodeling was eight years ago with some other work in between. They are very professional. They are honest and they do good work. I have no negative things about them whatsoever. Their prices are fair.

They did a great job!  We're very happy with the results.  They were organized and kept the house clean while they worked.  We didn't have any problems.  There were a couple of minor mix ups over when they would arrive to work on certain days (miscommunication between the father who does the quotes and son who leads most of the work) but all easily resolved.

I thought it went really well. Anytime I had a question and called Mr. Walker he would call me right back. I spoke with him directly and they were there every time he said that they were going to be there. Everybody took their shoes off and they completely stripped the room and cleaned up whatever mess they made and we didn't have any issues with dust in the house or anything like that. They took all of their stuff and actually let me get rid of some stuff that I did on the project myself and throw it in the dumpster.

    JB Marvin Building And Restoration
The Federal District Court put it best: "The Defendant's violations are indicative of a pattern of financial deception and irresponsibility for which the defendant shows no remorse or willingness to refrain from such deceptive practices." Marvin 93CR-76-S-01. I wish I had read this statement from the 7th Circuit US Court of Appeals the minute Jeffrey B. Marvin approached us about doing work on our property. Perhaps then we would not be the latest victim of this "con man" who has multiple convictions for fraud and forgery. His method of operation is to use fear. He told us we had a serious problem that had to be dealt with immediately. As his crew went to work the problem kept getting bigger, more dire and much more expensive. In the end we spent close to $100,000, nearly $80,000 of it directly to JB Marvin for a project that did not need to be done. In the end we had a house that was condemned by the city as uninhabitable.
The story is very long it started in May 2012 and ran through early September when we told Marvin we had a serious problem and he needed to rectify it.  He did not respond in any way. Technically we are not done yet as we have had to hire reputable contractors to fix the myriad of serious problems we were left with.  JB Marvin is neither licensed nor insured. This is what we discovered after the city told us we had to move our family out of the house immediately because the sewer line was no longer connected: 1) JB Marvin nor Basement Savers the excavator he subcontracted with, had a permit to excavate or rebuild our entire basement including putting in footings; 2)An application for a permit was submitted after the fact when the city cited them for not having a permit; 3) The permit was never paid for and therefore never issued, however the permit application showed that they lied to the city about the work they had performed as evidenced in the work described in the contract we had with JB Marvin and the work we paid for.
We repeatedly asked for invoices of materials and never received them. When we had the foundation re-excavated we discovered that materials listed in the contract were not used. We also know that when the sewer was disconnected from the house a heavy duty plastic bag was stuffed in the end of the pipe and that it was reburied. We know that the sewer cleanout in the house was similarly stuffed with a pair of plastic rain pants and then 4 inches of cement were placed over it. Water and gas pipes were broken off and much of it not discovered until we tried to hook things up again.
I am not sure what action we will take next but I do strongly believe this was a case of fraud and extreme incompetence. I cannot state strongly enough   DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY nor do any work with Jeffrey Marvin or his key employee Vincent "Butch" Roselli. I would further recommend that Basement Savers not be hired, as it is unclear as to what role this company played in the intentional burying of the sewer pipe. All three of these individuals lied to us on  more than one occasion, Brent Garden of Basement Savers even had the audacity to say he would charge us to fix the problem and then did not show up!

    JB Marvin Building And Restoration
We started out thinking we just needed to repair a collapsed brick garage wall. J.B. Marvin identified and fixed some major drainage and basement/foundation problems that, if not fixed, would have resulted in the partial collapse of our 100-year-old house. The project was much bigger than we expected. J.B. Marvin worked with us with fair pricing and great work. I felt very comfortable having his workers on my property for about a month. They even did some extras such as gutters on the garage and some tuck pointing for no extra charge. In the history of our house, the basement/foundation had never been properly waterproofed. Now we have a dry basement and a beautiful new driveway.
