JAY LITMAN CONSTRUCTION REMODELING & HANDYMAN SERV
Litman Construction won a bid through St. Louis County to install a vertical lift (elevator) to make our home handicapped accessible for our son with special needs. We began the project in ample time to complete it by the end of our funding year. We completed our portions of the project and Sam assured us that the project would be done on time. Two weeks before our funding year ended, Litman construction began their work, assuring us it would get done. The lift had not been ordered, so our project was not completed on time. It lost our son $12,000 of county funding to use this year for a handicapped accessible shower and ceiling lifts to keep him and our caregivers safe during transfers. Litman apologized, but did nothing to make the situation right. They proceeded to blame us for the delays. My husband was up until 2 AM one morning removing a wall so Litman could begin their work. Had we known that Litman's delays would be that impactful, we would have done what needed to be done ourselves. We could have easily done what needed to be done in a weekend. Litman Construction essentially sheet rocked and painted a U-shaped "closet" that was 5 feet deep, 6 feet wide and 12 feet high. They added a 42 inch high wall on top of the 8 foot wall my husband had already built. They sheet rocked and painted 204 square feet and charged $5,145 for their labor (85.75 hours over 30 days). On-line estimates put sheet rocking at $1.50-$3.00 per square foot (materials and labor combined) which would put our project at $306-$612. Even though Litman did not touch the lift (Arrow-Lift the lift manufacturer installed it) they charged a 10% mark up on the lift, and the electrician they hired (TK Electric) wired the main circuit board incorrectly so it was destroyed the first time it was hooked up. Their response to that was "He's done them for us before, but I guess mistakes can happen." Litman construction did not even do their work well. They left sheet rocked seams for us to have to blend into a wall above (they painted up to bare sheet rock). The bottom door header was put in crooked (it is 36" wide) and the dimensions for the door were incorrect despite them having a plan. When the lift was installed, shims needed to be placed at the top so the door opened correctly. We had to fix all their shoddy work after we fired them from the project. There was no service recovery or effort to make their mistake right. When we knew that the project was not going to get completed before the waiver year was up, Sam, the project manager, told us that he has had funding extended (our social worker never had heard of that) and that my husband was handy so he could complete parts of the next projects to fit into the money we have left over this year. He blamed us for the delays. In the end, Litman was paid for their job and there was no accountability for them. I left a one star review and told our story on their Facebook page and they deleted all four of their reviews. They turned off the ability for people to post to their page except in the comments of their posts. Instead of responding to a complaint, they deleted it. That, to me, says volumes about their company. If you want timely, high quality work done, go elsewhere.

    St Luke's
I liked the fact that I didn't have to lose time from work. I knew that they came, so I didn't have to worry about what my shifts were and I could get him into therapy. It was the convenience of it, and they were very nice and very accommodating. They were good. They would ask us whether it was a good time for us so they could come over, they were excellent. They were always on time, we never waited for them. They were very professional and very caring.

    Heartland PCA Services
I was with Heartland since they were known as Extended Family & Medpro. I have since learned they have changed the name of the bus. many times. It appears when they are about to be discovered for illegal activity, they change their name. Names they have been known by: Silver Lining,Healh Personel,Covenant, The Company,Extended Family,Medpro,The American,& now Heartland. The owner of the company has a criminal record and has served time in St. Loius Cnty work farm & In Jail. His name is Jerald Buchanan,Gerry Bucanan,Jerald Bucanan, & Jerry Buchanen.. He Spells the name under diffrent spellings to aviod being discovered if you did a back ground chack on him. During the time I was a client I had personal items stolen from my home. ie:Jewerly, money, perscriptions, clothing, and food. I have had to make police reports due to stolen properrty. The administrator Jill Koski has offered me a "check" to cover the damages of stolen items that were stolen by the employees they sent to my home. I was robbed by an employee and the company paid to have my entire home re-keyed. This is standard practice that the company will offer a client money to not prosectute the comapny for robbery. When an employee steals from the disabled & vulnerable they are NOT fired, but instead they are removed from the home where they stole items & placed in a home of possibly a MORE vulnerable person. I have had many of my household property broken by employees who have no respect for a clients personal property. The employees I have had would steal, swear, smoke, refuse to work, come late, leave early or more times than ever- NOT SHOW UP AT ALL! THIS COMPANY is NOW under investigation for Insurance Fraud by the State of Minnesota due to over billing my insurance company. The CNA's they send are NOT trained properly. Many times they are just hired off the street and sent out to care for disabled & vulnerable people with absolutely no idea what they are to do for a client. The company has sent workers that were drug addicts, mentally challenged, and alcoholics that came to my home intoxicated many times. NONE of these employess were ever fired for this behavior. The comapny has sent CNA's & PCA's out that have struck a client that was in a wheel chair, & also robbed a 92 yr. old woman who had a lot of money, and jewelry taken. This company has been reported to: Dept of Human Services:Mary Enge,Ombudsman for Long Term Care:Verda Hall,Ombudsman for Mental Health: Disabilities Services Div: Rebecca Slinninger,Senator Loureys office:Pat Rooney,Common Entry Point Person for the Carlton Co:. Peggy Hart,Senator Al Franken,The Office of Health Facicility Complaints:Pat Fitzimmons,Office of Vulnerable Adults & maltreatment &the Police. This company does NOT hold a LISC in the state of Mn or Wi. The have a HOME MANGMNT BUSINESS NOT a overall HOME HEALTH CARE LISC of any type. They are registered as business it is a registration NOT A LISC. Because they do NOT hold a liscense of any type the only one that has jurisdiction over them is the police & since the employees have stolen w/ no witnesses there is very little that can be done.AS I said- the owner of the bus. IS a known crimanal w/ a record of criminal activity which also includes TAX EVASION. The employees are not competent people that should ever be taking care of disabled people, children, or elderly & vulnerable. PLEASE before you hires a company to provide health sevices for you or your loveds one- PLEASE do your home work & check w/ the reputation of the company. I do know that the company has sent workers to care for a very disabled woman with absolutely NO training and she could be injured easily with out the proper lifting of someone who is trained. The comapny will not send workers to care for disabled people if they do not have enough staff and has let a woman lay in her own urine for 10+ hours many many days because they had no one to assist her. The complaints can go on forever. I have spent 3 years (I was a client for 4 yrs total) investigating this comapny trying to have them prosecuted or closed. Finally the spring of 2110, They are finally being investigated for Insurance fraud. The complaints are from the Ins. fraud to physical abuse, mental abuse, robbery, PLEASE STAY AWAY from this COMPANY.

    Midwest Medical Equipment & Supplies
I have a 3-wheel scooter, and I brought it up there because I heard some weird noise. I guess they ripped it all apart but they couldn?t find anything wrong with it. I did have a problem with one of the straps for the battery. I asked if they could fix that, and they did. I use a bench that has got little rubber feet on it. I wanted to make sure that those feet were in good condition. There was a woman there that somehow knew my wife, and she offered the rubber feet to me. She gave me two replacement feet for free. For everything that they did, they just charged me $15. I would rate them highly.

    St Lukes Hospital of Duluth
They were willing to accommodate us in any way. We had a problem with the room we were in, and they switched us with no problem. I would recommend them.
