Moving reviews in Columbia Heights

  • Quality Movers did a good job moving our house from one suburb to another. Some problems arose, but they were able to adapt. We had initially discussed two 26-foot trucks and four movers, but only one truck and three guys showed up. I was skeptical, but the rate we were charged was reduced to account for it. The guys were not able to get the large playset in the backyard into the single truck, but went back and got it the next day for no extra charge. They were also adaptable on timing. We closed on the house we were selling in the morning, and on our new house later the same day. There was a gap during the middle of the day, and other movers told me we would be charged an hourly rate during that time. Quality Movers worked with me and agreed to store our things in their truck, locked in their warehouse, and to deliver them the next morning. This worked great and really lowered the cost. The movers, through kind of a freak accident, did damage one piece of antique furniture. After discussing it with their manager, they agreed to have us find someone to repair it and send them the bill. We sent them the bill, and they promptly sent us a check for the right amount. While I would have preferred the furniture not get damaged, they handled it professionally and I appreciate that. Would definitely recommend.

  • Bill and Dwayne were prompt and hard workers. They were friendly and had good attitudes, which was especially appreciated because the move was from a third floor apartment to another third floor apartment with no elevator. Bill kept in communication to confirm our plans through out the move.

  • Awesome Customer Service and they were able to move around there scheduled to accommodate me. These people are awesome! The staff at Ruth Movers is friendly and knowledgeable from the moment you call to the time that they are setting up your equipment at you home. I must have made a half a dozen change requests and every time they were able to accommodate me. Thank you Ruth Movers!

  • We were in a rental and bought some furniture. We had them move it to the garage at our rental home and then we had them move it from the garage at the place we were renting to our new home.

  • Quality Movers moved us from our house in Miinneapolis to an apartment in St. Anthony Village last year.  It was an excellent experience.  This week they moved us from the apartment back into a house in St. Paul.  Again, another excellent experience!
They showed up on time.  The communication was excellent.  The guys were really nice, really professional - and they were so fast.  They bill by the hour but there was no slacking off.  They took great care of our things, and were done more quickly than I thought they would be.  They were careful with floors, walls, etc.  Nothing was damaged.  This is a fantastic company.  I would use them again if I had to move, though we hope to not have to move for a long time.

  • Right on time, called so I could meet them at the house during the work day.
Very careful and quick with their work.
Would hire again for any hauling needs.
    Highly Recommend!

  • They were on time (early actually), very professional... they wrapped our items and didnt get anything dirty or damaged. They worked very fast and efficiently. Very nice and personable guys, really laid back and friendly but also did a fast and quality job! They were able to move about 30 boxes, 2 king mattresses, 2 couches, take apart and put together a large bed frame, large bedroom set, kitchen table and many other misc. items with 1 hour of drive time included in about 4 hours. Great job! We are very happy and impressed with Above the Crowd!

  • The company's response time to my email request for prices was great. The man I spoke to on the phone was helpful and friendly.
I'm not *ecstatic* about the service, but it was fine; they got the job done. They were a few minutes late, maybe 10-15. I had two storage units: one for furniture and one for everything else (boxes, bags, some loose items). In storing the furniture, they didn't display any attempts to make the best use of the space. I had to ask them to put things in a certain way to maximize the space, and I often had to repeat my requests. It's not like I had many specific requests about where to put things. The bulk of my stuff (the boxes and bags) I just let them put however they wanted. But the furniture, I'm going to have to do some rearranging on my own (with a bad back, grr) because I got annoyed at being ignored and tired of repeating my requests. Yes, I need assertiveness training. :)
They were pretty good about getting the boxes arranged into a good use of the space. At one point, a tower of boxes fell, narrowly missing one of the guys. I wasn't using the best boxes, so it's partly my doing, but I would've appreciated a token "sorry" for the things that broke.
    They worked pretty fast.
Overall, I think they did a satisfactory job with only a few areas I would've wanted improved.

  • While these young men were pleasant enough, they were both deaf and very difficult to communicate with. Only one of them did any communicating, and he seemed unable to read lips or to admit that he couldn't understand me very well. It seemed he could understand only the gist of what I was saying, and wouldn't ask me to repeat if he didn't understand; he just went ahead not really knowing what I said. He had to type all of his responses on his phone, and he used many sentences to say what could have been said in a few words, which took time. Not the fastest typer, either. I had a lot of specific instructions and so each item to be moved required several minutes of back and forth: I'd say something, he'd misunderstand, he'd write a message, I'd repeat, he'd misunderstand the same thing again, spend three minutes writing a response, and so on. I guess I was too frazzled to realize I could've gotten out a piece of paper and written down what I was saying. Either way, too much time.

They were about half-an-hour late. I was starting to worry. Of course, they were unable to call and tell me they were going to be late. I guess they could've texted? But they didn't.

I wasn't finished packing when they arrived, so I had a lot of instructions about moving different categories of things into the truck, into my garage, or to the curb, but it was just too complicated to get communicated in any reasonable amount of time. I ended up asking them to move only three of the heaviest pieces of furniture, and the first thing they did was drop a nice vintage table, one of the few nice peices of furniture I own. Maybe the only one. Yikes. It was very heavy, but they're movers, right?

They had glowing reviews on U-Haul's website, which is why I hired them. I have a very strong feeling that no one wants to be the one to review deaf movers poorly. I hesitated about writing an honest review here for that very reason. They may indeed have worked out well for some people who didn't need to communicate much, but I doubt I'm the only person to hire them who's felt let down, and I suspect those people simply chose not to leave a review. I mean, what kind of jerk leaves a bad review for deaf movers? Me, I guess.

Things would have worked out if they'd been on time, hadn't had to move anything really heavy, and had to do nothing but move boxes I indicated without any other instruction. It would've taken way too long to go over which boxes I wanted in the back of the truck, which in the front, which left in the garage... If all you want is stuff moved and you don't care how it's done or where things go, they would be fine.

  • They moved all the furniture and heavy boxes, as well as electronics. They were polite, calm, and were great about moving and giving suggestions on what the best way to move. They worked straight through until all was taken care of. They didn't damage anything and were clean (no mud in the area). They did some extra stuff, such as lifted a safe to the trash.

Additionally, they were on time. They confirmed previous to coming to our place that they were coming on time. .
