AMarshall Handyman ServicesThe only glitch was when a scheduled worker got hurt just prior to coming to my project. I was notified right away that they wouldn't be able to keep there appointment with me which I really appreciated.- Carole N.

AMarshall Handyman ServicesOwner, David Marshall, was very accommodating in getting someone on our job when we called. We had one carpenter first, and then David provided another skilled carpenter in a timely fashion to help the first carpenter with installing railings and hand rails. The first carpenter finished up all the trim work on the structure. We had a couple errors early on, but on the whole we were very pleased with the work performed, and the skill of the carpenters, as well as their demeanor and ease of working. Enjoyed working with them. David was also very easy to work with and accommodating. Was easy to communicate with them and they had good understanding of what needed to be done. Project turned out very well, looked great, and had good comments on it. The price you pay is premium because David has a good organization of providing different workers and managing them well to provide for clients and for the workers he is hiring. But he does a very good job of it.- Maria or Dan V.

AWALKER CONSTRUCTIONWalker Construction presented a thorough description of the problem and Troy Walker (owner) seemed like a good small business owner. We are so happy that we selected this company. They were professional, efficient/fast, and took care not to trample the plants that border our porch. One of our slate roof tiles broke while they were doing their work. Rather than conceal the problem, which they easily could have done, they immediately alerted me and said they would order a new tile. They not only replaced that tile, but left me with 2 extras. Nice! My brother, who is a professional handyman, inspected the work once it was completed, and he said it looked like they did a really nice job. Overall I rate Walker Construction an A.- Mark W.

AWALKER CONSTRUCTIONThey came when they said they were going to come. They were friendly, respectful guys. It is a small, local business, and I like to support that. Overall, I am satisfied. They have got a couple of little things they need to finish up, so it isn’t over till it is over but I am confident that they will come back and finish. I thought they were reasonable. They were slightly higher than others but he used his carpenters to do the roof work, so they were basically doing minor carpentry work and repair work as they went. This is a very old house, and to me, that was money well spent. If I had gone elsewhere and had to hire a carpenter to do one and a roofer to do the other, I would have paid more and it would have been more inconvenient. I think it was a fair deal. It rained hard last night, so I know it is good.- Lee Anne C.

AWilliam Freeberg Construction LLCCalled and received estimates from several contractors. Was impressed with his professionalism and promptness is getting back to me. Gave me several options and the pros and cons of each. Kept me informed through the process, cleaned up after his work and did a very nice job.- Dorothy B.

AWilliam Freeberg Construction LLCWent well, still some finish work to be done- due to the weather that interrupted some of the out door work- Dorothy B.

ALBC GARAGE DOORSForeman and project manager met with us before project started to discuss things like staging areas, approach, etc. so we could agree what would be most cost-effective while also least disruptive. They constructed a temporary wall and put in a temporary, lockable front door while they took down the old wall, deck, chimney etc. so that we were still safe and dry inside. Workers arrived promptly everyday at 7:30 (agreed upon start time - I said 7:00 was too early for us), were very courteous and positive. Nice w/ our kids, never any foul language. Project took longer than expected but that was mainly due to the complexity of the exterior trim work - they kept at it consistently.- Carol A.

AWilliam Freeberg Construction LLCFound Mr. Freeberg's ad in the yellow pages. Was impressed with his advertisement that he guaranteed his work for 5 years. Talked to several of his references before hiring him. Had bad luck with previous contractors. Was impressed with the quality of his work and also the time he spent doing the work.- Dorothy B.

FHorrible The experience was awful with this people. I didn't know this company at all, my insurance company send me a list of 5 general contractors to take care of my house, so I pick J Benson because they were close to my house and I want it to keep the contractor local and close. So I went with them. They send an estimator like one day after the damage of the house, I signed the paperwork and two days later they send a different person because the first guy had previews commitments, so that was the first red flag. The second estimator took a lot more pics of the house and did he's first estimate, he submitted to the adjuster and it passed just fine. But then it took them almost one whole month before any one started to work in my house, not a single nail was removed or anything. Then I found out that numerous contractors were going in and out of my house with out me knowing it. Finally the work started and the job "foreman" got involved, this guy was even worst, he only called and picked up the phone when he need it something for me other ways good luck trying to get a hold of him. This guy should be FIRED and never allowed to work on the field again. One day I called him and he's answer was "what do you need, I am kind of busy right now" Awesome. Then I asked for an estimate to build a brand new bathroom in the basement. The estimator give me he's quote and we agreed on the price, so they started the project about one month after the paperwork was signed. About 80% of the work was done when I found out that the estimator "FORGOT" to add the toilet and the tub on the estimate!!!!!! How can any one do that????? So I had to came up with that $$$ And then there was the communication with office personnel. Since day one right after I signed the paperwork I offer to give them money, the estimator said "some one from the office will contact you" NO one ever did, weeks went by with out a single person contacting me about money. Finally some one did and every time we communicated there was a mistake with the numbers, every time there was an "I am sorry I forgot" Unreal this people. A couple of weeks before the project was done and I was super upset with every one involved at this point I requested a supervisor. He reached out to me and we meet at my house. He right away start asking me for money, I pretty much lost my cool there and I went off about all of the issues I was having with he's people. He's answer " I am sorry I wasn't aware of the issues" This shows how unprofessional this company is I can't believe how this people are in business not only in the twin cities but in southern Minnesota.

AMy story is a story of the utmost regard for the contractor and friend I came in contact with in 2011. BeIow is my story....
I grew up every summer from Memorial Day to Labor Day at our family cabin on Pequaywan Lake. The cabin was an incredible place for me and my family. It was where I learned to: swim, ride a bike, water-ski, and where my friends and me could just be a kids. My dad was a construction worker who was always doing a project at the cabin every summer, and took great pride in the work he did.
In 2011, due to some health issues, my dad gave me the cabin that our family loves so much. When I received the property, it was in complete disrepair: downed power-lines, broken windows, leaking roof, and a number of other issues with the property. As I was asking around the area for someone that I could trust our family property with, there was a resounding answer: John Lucia.
It was the summer of 2011 that I first met John. I spoke with him over the phone about the work that needed to be done and arranged a time to meet. We met on a Saturday as I had to come up from the Twin Cities (180 miles away). I was thrilled with his flexibility in meeting me on a weekend. John came out to the cabin and spent about two hours listening to me and the vision I had for the property.
The first order of concern was a downed power line and ripped off fascia. I had originally talked about just fixing the fascia and re-hanging the power line. John listened to me and gave me an alternative option of burying the line so I would never have to worry about a tree falling and the power-line ripping off the cabin again. He bid out both options and we ultimately decided on burying the line. I appreciated that John gave me alternative options for the work that I hadn?t thought of; this is a theme that has carried on through all of the work I have asked him to do. The line work was done on-time and was done in such a way that was meticulous and careful. I was impressed with his work. So impressed that I asked him to help me with some of the other ideas I had for the cabin.
I have spent the last three summers working with John. Many hours I have been spent with him and his ?iPad? (a yellow legal pad of every note we discuss) to make sure the bids are reflective of the vision I have and the work that John needs to do to bring that vision to life. To date, I have had John: re-wire the entire cabin; insulate the attic; install tongue and groove wall board; new ceilings; windows; stone veneer on the foundation; and tongue and groove ceilings in our guest cabin. He is currently working on siding and new flooring in the cabin, which is anticipated to be done the first week in July. I couldn?t be more thrilled with his work.
John is a craftsman. He has impeccable attention to detail and really takes pride in making sure the finished product is perfect. I am a very detailed person and can be a really tough customer. John and I have checked in all along the way on each project he has done. He asks multiple questions so we are absolutely on the same page so any things that might come up are quickly rectified. This is really nice since I live 3 hours away from the lake and always feel like he and I are on the same page. I am typically impressed above my own expectations on how something turns out. I have a lot of trust in John.
I mentioned my dad and my family early on in this letter. Dad is now healthier. I have wanted to create a space where he and mom can come, relax, and be with the family that they are so proud of. My mom, dad and the rest of the family have been up many times since John has started working with us, and, each time, the entire family is incredibly complementary of the work he has done. My dad, who is the ultimate critic, is very impressed with everything that John has done. He often looks at the new tongue and groove wallboard and admires the cuts and the framing of the windows in each room. This ?inspection? goes on each time he is at the lake and each time he tells me and mom how all of our dreams of what the cabin would look like have come true. He is right. . . and I thank John Lucia for this.
Please consider this a strong vote of my utmost confidence in the work John has done. I am happy to talk to anyone about his work and the time we have had over the last three years creating memories for my family and me.
