Chimney & Fireplace reviews in Chaska

Very professional and polite technician. Took his time doing thorough inspection and cleaning of the flues. Left my house clean and even cleaned the ash out of the fireplaces. He went up on my roof to inspect the outside chimneys with a lot of snow present. This is the second time I have had them do work for me and am 100% satisfied and would highly recommend this company.

One fireplace was just DIRTY and had a non-working wall switch, the other wouldn't light when it was windy outside. Tom took care of both, explaining and repairing their idiosyncracies. I had him install a fan on one, too... all inexpensive, and he's a nice guy who just went into business for himself after 10 years with another fireplace maintenance co. Way cheaper than many, instantly available, and I like to hire people who don't travel far.

Guy was a disaster...he smelled badly, did not remove his shoes, swearing on phone while sitting on my table downstairs, at his ex, asked for extra $117, I gave it to him because I felt sorry for him...I could go on, but I do not want revenge from him.

Today I had the Angie's List deal for Chimney Sweep and Safety Inspection performed for my wood burning stove. It was advertised as follows: $49.00 chimney sweep and safety inspection Inspection and sweeping is valid for open fireplace chimneys (both wood burning and gas) Inspecting the fireplace operational components and a thorough sweeping of all major parts such as the firebox, throat, smoke shelf, smoke chamber, and flue with a written inspection Check damper operation, chimney crown and chimney cap Brush/clean the interior of the chimney to remove build-up I'm sorry to report my experience was not satisfactory. When I purchased the deal online I was asked to provide dates for scheduling. I was instructed that the company would call me to confirm a date and time. After a week went by no one called. I called them and had to arrange a date. The date arrived and I received a call from the technician(Landon Braaten) saying he could not make it because he had problems with his brakes on the vehicle. And he asked if I could reschedule. We did reschedule another date. The second date arrived and I again received a call from the same technician saying he had brake problems and a flat tire and asked to reschedule later in the day. I said that was fine but expected him to contact me later in the day when he would show up. Towards the end of the day I was never contacted and I called him. At which point we decided to reschedule the third time. The third day arrived (today) and the technician called me to ask if he could come out later in the day due to scheduling conflicts. I said "no", that I have no flexibility at this point and to come out and resolve the work that afternoon. When the technician arrived he was careless with the "sweeping" tools. He let them flop around without paying attention. If I wasn't present they could have dirtied the couch and carpet. The technician did not provide any drop cloths or tarps to protect the carpet from the tools, hoses etc. that he brought to perform the job. Although the hoses looked clean this should be done as a basic precaution. The technician was on the phone for most of the time he was here. This distracted him from the job at hand. He spent more time on the phone than he did actually performing any work. Finally, after he finished, there was a small pile of ashes remaining. I asked if he could clean those up and his answer was "no". When I asked why, the technician basically said it's just not something I do. He did eventually take the ashes outside for disposal. And proceeded to dump them on the porch about 10 feet in front of our door! Also, I was informed that to sweep the chimney it would require a payment of $90.36 as that was not part of the deal. But the deal clearly states a sweep to be performed of all major parts with a written inspection. I agreed to this as I wanted the work done. He then had me write the check to his name instead of Minneapolis Air Duct Specialists, which I thought was very odd. Also the deal states the following: Inspecting the fireplace operational components and a thorough sweeping of all major parts such as the firebox, throat, smoke shelf, smoke chamber, and flue with a written inspection - a written inspection was not provided. Check damper operation, chimney crown and chimney cap - This was not performed. Langdon never went up to the roof to inspect the chimney cap/crown. Brush/clean the interior of the chimney to remove build-up - I still see build up on surfaces of the interior of the wood burning stove. I have posted this review on Angie's List. Overall, the service is not dependable, unreliable and unprofessional. And after watching closely the work that was performed, there seems to be little value in it other than somebody taking a brush up the chimney once or twice. I feel what was advertised was not not delivered at all. And I also feel that this is a bait-and-switch practice. And I have no confit that the chimney was inspected and is indeed safe for another season.

I purchased the services directly on Angie's list and was contacted within minutes to make an appointment (even though the transaction occurred around 8:30PM).   The appointment was only two days out and I was given a 2 hour arrival window...the technician called as promised 30 minutes prior to arrival.  Upon arrival several pieces of equipment were unloaded and carefully carted down to my mechanical room.  As this was my first experience with duct cleaning I had a few questions which were addressed by the technician.  Before starting the procedure he showed me a small device with "tentacles" which he called the predator which he said he could attach to the end of probe being inserted into the ducts and (for an additional $99) do a more "thorough job, especially since this was the first time the ducts were being cleaned'.  I was a little annoyed that this option wasn't mentioned when I made the appointment, even more annoyed that the cost was higher than the base service, and left wondering what a "not so thorough" cleaning of my ducts would mean (I declined the added service).  The technician moved quickly from room to room and was done in about an hour.  Unfortunately I have no way to assess whether there was much debris removed from my ducts, but I'm sure they're cleaner than before.  Quite frankly my rating reflects the uncertainty about the thoroughness of the service I received and the attempt for a last minute "upsell".

He called right at the beginning of the appointment window and told me he'd be there in 30 minutes or so, and got there exactly at the promised time.  He went right to work, and was able to show me lots of useful things with my system (I just bought the house, so I'm still trying to find everything).  After looking at the ducts, he recommended a deeper cleaning on the ducts, which seemed justified to me.  All in all he explained everything incredibly well, gave me estimates on how long some of the equipment will last, and did a fantastic job cleaning the ducts!

Appointment was set up over phone 30-44 days prior, since I was building new home.

Email sent confirming appointment had my temporary address, I called to inform them of correct address.

Got call day of install that they would be a my home in afternoon.

Afternoon came and went, I called them only to find that they went to my old address. They were unable to make it that day.

Showed up next day and install was professionally handled.SW

They were great!  They were professional, punctual, and friendly.  They removed all the lint and debris from the vents!  They were also helpful in identifying other services that would be helpful with no added pressure.

They were dependable, reliable, personable and were easy to work with.  The price was reasonable. They delivered and stacked it for me.  They did an amazing job.  I called them again for wood this year.

We went to the Eden Prairie Fireside Hearth & Home to take advantage of their "Warehouse Sale" and replace our 21 year old gas fireplace. The price for the fireplace we chose was listed on the pricing sheet as $1,599--a $400 savings. The total cost of the fireplace, fan, and front was $1,911. Installation added $949, so the total came to $2,860. Once the salesperson wrote up the quote, there was an additional $1,920 in costs. That's 67% more than what they listed as the "Total Cost" on the price sheet for the fireplace! The $949 didn't even include the electrical work ($425), and the cost of disposing of our old gas fireplace was $695! And this was the least expensive model of fireplace they had, and an easy installation. I feel that Fireside Hearth & Home has very deceptive advertising practices, and I will not do business with them.
