    Becker Furniture World
    I would run very fast from Becker Furniture World if you are thinking of purchasing there. They are horrible. I ordered several pieces of furniture in January 2013 and it is March now and I have received more headaches than furniture.

    When my first delivery came several pieces were missing (end table but no coffee table, chairs and no table). And the expensive dining room table literally fell apart when they were putting it together and 90% of the dining room chairs were wobbly. When we asked why they didn't check these first before delivery they said they didn't have a place to do that. They wanted us to keep the defective pieces so a service person could come and fix them. We refused and had to call twice to get our money appropriately refunded for the dining room pieces.

    Then in mid February, 6 weeks after we ordered, we were informed that the chairs for the kitchen set we had ordered were discontinued and they wanted to know if we wanted the table without the chairs. We again asked for refund on these pieces and had to call three times to get our refund.

    Then toward the end of February we were informed the couch, chairs and ottomans we custom ordered January 4th, could not be made because the fabric had been discontinued. Our choice was to cancel the order or come in and pick out new fabric. We canceled and as of today are still trying to get our money refunded.

    We still have 2 pieces left to receive that we paid for January 4th but have not gotten a firm delivery date on yet. Last we heard it was suppose to be the end of March. Both of these were suppose to be stock pieces and delivered back in January. Only reason we have not cancelled these is that they go with pieces we already have.

    So far no apologies, not even return phone calls from the store manager. Find it very odd that Becker Furniture World can stay in business when they hold onto money and orders for weeks before placing them. We will never shop with them again. Here it is March when all our items were to be in and we literally have to start all over. Not with Becker Furniture World though, never again! When people see our bare rooms in our house we tell the our horrible service experience with Becker Furniture World and make sure to tell them not to step foot in their stores.

    Deans Professional Plumbing Heating & Air
    This house call appears to be attempted fraud or gross incompetence.  A serviceman from Dean's began with a reasonably priced seasonal check on our gas furnace (which is not the issue here).  The real issue is that we had a Heat & Glo gas fireplace insert installed three years ago.  The fan has never worked.  Recently the remote control stopped turning on the flame.
    On 10/5/12 a serviceman from Dean's stated that the electronics in the fireplace had a "lack of communication" with the remote, that Heat & Glo had gone out of business, that by now only third party replacements parts were available, that these spare parts were inferior and often gave out, that most owners of gas inserts in our situation eventually had to replace their units with new ones anyway (thus throwing away their investment in parts and hours charged for repairs), and that a new fireplace insert, of a different brand, would likely need a new flu lining to fit it.  He also said he could not investigate the inactive blower without charging us for hours of labor to pull out the existing unit.  He gave us a written estimate of $2864.00 to replace parts, a temporary fix he said we would eventually regret paying for.  At the same time he gave us a written estimate of $4307.00 to sell us and install a new, "basic quality" gas insert of a different brand his shop sells, with a flu to fit and a blower.
    Since then, three other installers have independently agreed that Heat & Glo is still very much in business as a premium, widespread brand of gas inserts, and that the Dean's man's statement was like saying that Ford no longer manufactures cars.  We got suspicious and checked Angie's List to compare local installers.  Finally, another installer took a few moments to pull out the fireplace insert.  He diagnosed the problem, located and reset the circuit breaker downstairs, connected the wiring to the fan, fixed a vibration in it, and showed us how to control all these features using the remote.  He was here a bit over an hour and charged us $85.00.
