". I had a fine needle biopsy on my thyroid 7 years ago when my g.p. noted nodules on my thyroid. He sent me to an endocrinologist which I have been checking in" with yearly, with blood work and ultrasound. Initially he ordered a biopsy which was done by another physician, not by Dr. . I remember the experience being extremely painful even with the local. Fast forward 7 years in 2015. My did a usual ultrasound, but this time there were changes in the nodules on my thyroid, mostly calcification that my to want to do another biopsy to out cancer. When we discussed this I told him how painful my first biopsy was and he reassured me, saying in the last 7 years techniques have improved, and the needles are thinner. I made the appt. for the biopsy and voiced my concern to the appt. scheduler about the pain. She said that the only thing that I could do was to request a pain drug from my primary dr. and make sure someone drove me home. I considered this, and then decided that I would go through it with a local, that perhaps I was making a mountain out of a molehill. I had never met Dr. before the biopsy. Before he came in, I told his tech that I was concerned about pain and hoped I could be given extra local if needed. The tech went in the other room, and I'm assuming told the doctor what I had just told him, because after introducing himself Dr. said "You are getting a local and that's it. Most people are fine with this procedure. The local will cause some pain as well." He proceeded to the biopsy, and for 45 minutes I endured an incredible amount of pain, as he dug, twisted and moved the needle deep inside my thyroid. He never ONCE asked me how I was doing. I'm sure he was aware of it, as I began automatic deep breathing to get through it, all the while tears streaming down my face. He didn't talk to me during the procedure, not to reassure, give me an update on the process, nothing at all. If it hadn't been for the nurse volunteer that was holding my hand through the whole procedure, I don't think I would have made it. It was worse than 2 days of induced labor which I went through with my first child. I was never given more local pain relief. It seemed that my request had p***** him off and that he was going to be aggressive, unrelenting and show me he was in control. The day after, and for a week my neck was badly bruised. My family and friends were shocked. Two days after the traumatic event my body began to process it, and I became angry, depressed and tearful all at the same time. I had no idea what was going on with me until I realized I had been traumatized.

"The service was ok, but the administration/billing processes are terrible. I just received a bill for services provided in November of 2014. My husband has passed" away, his estate has been probated so off to the lawyer to determine if I should pay it. Small dollar amount, but it seems they think there's no statute of limitations on billing for services I have no way to verify were even provided.

Urology medical specialists

Radiology covers a broad range of services that use diagnostic imaging devices to see into the body. A radiologist reads the results and forwards the findings to your doctor for diagnosis and treatment.

Angie's Answers

I second the original question (still unanswered). Speaking as someone who logged in today to try to find an attorney, I see this category as one that's exactly what I have my Angie's List membership for:

1. It's important that I find a good one
2. I'm not an expert enough to know myself who is a good one
3. The industry is full of advertisements and misinformation
4. I wish I knew what experiences other people have had

I don't care about lawns--I planted mine in clover and don't have to mow it. When I do need to mow I use a rotary Fiskars mower, which is great--or a scythe. That's right--a scythe (the European type, which is smaller, and it's very good exercise). Gas-powered mowers, chemical fertilizers and weed killers--all nasty stuff that gets into everyone's air, soil, and water. I'm sure my neighbor doesn't like my wildflowers, semi-wild pockets of fruit bushes, and unmown areas and yes, dandelions (I have 10 acres) but that's too bad. It's better habitat for wildlife, especially the pollinators on which our food supply depends. I think this obsession with the Great American Lawn is a waste of time and resources. Plant some food instead.

I'm not sure Angie et. al. want you to have a complete answer to this question. By re-subscribing at the Indiana State Fair in 2012, I think I paid $20.00 per year for a multi- year subscription. Maybe even less. At the other extreme--and I hope my memory isn't faulty about this--I think the price, for my area, for ONE year was an outrageous $70.00. And they debited me automatically without warning. I had to opt out of that automatic charge. I like Angie's List, but if some of the companies they monitor behaved the way they do in this respect, they'd be on some sort of Pages of Unhappiness. I'll be interested to see if this comment gets published or censored out of existence.

That's very difficult to answer without seeing the house. As one poster said, the prep is the most important part. On newer homes that don't have a lot of peeling paint, the prep can be very minimal even as low as a couple or a few hundred dollars for the prep labor.

On a 100 year old home with 12 coats of peeling paint on it, then the prep costs can be very high and can easily exceed 50% of the job's labor cost.

A 2100 sq ft two story home could easily cost $1000 just for the labor to prep for the paint job. That number could climb too. Throw in lots of caullking  or window glazing, and you could be talking a couple or a few hundred dollars more for labor.

Painting that home with one coat of paint and a different color on the trim could run roughly $1000 or more just for labor. Add a second coat  and that could cost close to another $1000 for labor.

For paint, you may need 20 gallons of paint. You can pay from $30-$70 for a gallon of good quality exterior paint. The manufacturer of the paint should be specified in any painting contract. Otherwise, the contractor could bid at a Sherwin-Williams $60 per gallon paint and then paint the house with $35 Valspar and pocket the difference. $25 dollars per gallon times 20 gallons? That's a pretty penny too.

That was the long answer to your question. The short answer is $2000 to $4000 and up, depending upon the amount of prep, the number of coats, the amount of trim, and the paint used.

You have to put your self in the shoes of a business that is in business to turn a profit of some sort. All businesses have different overhead which in turn decides what their bottom line would be on their services. I personally would not go with an unlicensed professional for this type of install. You are messing with gas, venting issues, electrical wiring{electric water heater} and updated code issues such as a drain pan and tempature and relief drain lines for heaters that currently do not have them. I do agree that there are some companies that are way out of line for their installs but most of these companies are the really big companies that have very high overheads  I would assume. Tank type water heaters have changed over the last several years and with these safety changes come bigger prices. The price of steel thanks to China is skyrocketing and tank type water heaters are made of steel. Most wholesale plumbing supply companies cannot match what the big box stores are selling at retail to consumers. I happen to think from research that heaters such as Rheem, Bradford White and AOSmith who have been in business forever make a better product than what you can buy in the big box outlets. You also have to take in consideration the location of the water heater that is being replaced. Is it in the house, basement, garage or attic. Most 40 and 50 gallon water heaters that are purchased in a plumbing wholesale store in Texas cost between 300-340 for a 6 year warranty heater with 6 year on parts and tank. Speaking of warranty. Most big box companies will take a least 24 hours to a week to get your warranty problem taken care of. Most reputable plumbing companies will give same day service if they installed the heater.

So lets break down a typical install at cost to a licensed plumber in Texas

Heater: $315, water shut off $6.50, water flex lines or unions to code $20, gas flex line and cut off to code $12, misc fittings $15, Total $368.50 Lets add a 35% profit which is some what low  for a business $129, Total 497.50

This doesnt  include permits, pan and drain or any venting issues. The vent must go from the heater to the outside of roof using double wall vent.

Cost of permit on average $60

Most plumbing companies allow for 3 hours of time for a water heater. This includes picking the new one up. Delivering out to house. Draining and removing old water heater. Hauling off old heater. Installing new heater up to code. Going down to city and pulling permit.

Average Labor charges for heater installs $400

That would make this install run without extras on any code issues $957.50

I just had a 50 gallon gas water heater installed in my house for $1200 but I needed a pan installed. I used a licensed plumber.

Todd said it best.

An itemized list / cost breakdown, more often than not is used against the contractor when it is shared with other builders who will then beat it.

Good contractors use good people, and good people cost more.  Just the cost of having the appropriate insurance / bond can be the difference between winning a job or losing it ot a 'lower bid'.

It is the rule of three; there is Good, Cheap and Fast.  You can have any two:  Good and Cheap, won't be Fast; Good and Fast, won't be Cheap;  Cheap and Fast, won't be Good!

When comparing bids, it isn't the cheapest or the 'nicest' person you should select.   You should understand why there is a large price difference (it shows there are gaps in your design program or what you have asked for specifically, which means there may be arguments later).  If most of the bids are in line, and one is way high or way low,  you want to know why before dismissing or selecting them.

A price-only decision almost always costs more in the long run.

Good luck!

Staff was friendly. Appointments were a wide range of availability. Technicians were helpful and professional. Costs were considerably lower than a hospital. Good Experience.

I can tell you enough how great full I'm for the CDI schedulers. Big Thank You for resolving my appt. issues. I had an appt. on Tues. at 3pm and found out at 1pm that my CT scan was denied by insurance. They are on top of what kind of scans we really need. Even if the doctors makes an error in the code sent to be issue to the insurance company. ...More I had a very friendly person named who helped me with my CT Scan. She was very helpful and even caught the problems with my scan code before I my appt. She called my insurance company to rectify the problem and then the insurance company denied the approval for my scan. apologized for the issues this caused. I told her it wasn't her fault. She was just doing her job. The Dr. then had to talk to the insurance company to explain why I need that scan. The CDI schedulers and my doctor got the CT scan approved 10min. before my appt. The Admin staff a front desk are kind of stuffy. Not to personable unless they have to really talk to you. Then it seems that they go out of their way to be nice. I only had one staff member that really don't care about people. It was at the end when I had to wait 20 min after my shot. That staff member could careless about people. Now I'm in my middle 40's manage if she's dealing with older people; which most of the room was filled with, I hate to see how she treats them. She just wanted to ask me on a scale of 1-10 how my pain was. I told her that I wasn't in pain when I arrived, but now my back hurts do to them probing the shot; which says Its common on the paper work. Staff member gave me this look like I should have even been there if my back didn't hurt. She just kept asking me in a snotty voice " so on a scale did it help at all" I told her it helped a little bit, but I won't know until morning when I get out of bed. That young blonde at 5:15 pm should have a talking too. To bad I didn't get her name. Over all I had a great appt. except for a couple few.

I am claustrophobic and therefore was dreading the experience of going into the MRI machine. It was a very pleasant experience, I was extremely nervous. The staff was so kind, helpful, and accommodating for me! They had brought me an eye and given me music to listen to during the MRA. The scheduling and everything as a whole ...More was very well done and everyone on staff was incredibly kind and caring.
- Laura C.

The appointment itself was on a Tuesday, and went great. At every level, the staff was friendly and appeared knowledgeable. One of the techs told us that the results would probably be available tomorrow, and another thought that it might not be until later in the week (2-3 days). We left the facility feeling pretty good about the appointment. We called ...More back on Thursday to check and see if the results were in, and were told that the courier from Pensacola hadn't arrived yet for the day, but they'd call us back later on. They were nice enough to call us back in the late afternoon just to let us know that the results weren't in the courier package, but they should be there tomorrow. So we called back Friday around noon, and were told rather abruptly that they didn't have the results, and that they wouldn't be getting any more results back until Monday. So now it's almost a week later, and we call back on Monday morning, and are once again told that the courier package hadn't yet arrived from Pensacola that was expected to have the results. Having heard nothing for the rest of the day, we call back Monday afternoon, and are told that the results are actually over in Pensacola, and get transferred to the other location. The PCola office claims not to have anything, so they tell us to call back over to the FWB office. The FWB office tells us that they're wrong, and offers to call the PCola office themselves and have PCola call us back. After 15 minutes, PCola calls us to say that they don't have anything, and that the results are at FWB - but all the techs at the FWB location have left for the day by this point, so there's no way to actually get the results. So we call FWB... Who tells us to call PCola again. Eventually, PCola says that they'll look into exactly what's going on and call us back. Another 15 minutes passes, and at this point it's pretty close to closing time so we call PCola again. This time they have magically found the results that we were looking for, and we're finally able to discuss them with one of the techs there. The alleged reason for this SNAFU was that the actual doctor who reviews the images had family in town so wasn't working as much that week. I have no problem with anyone in any profession taking some personal time, but plan your work schedule accordingly so that the customers don't suffer. After the visit and the first phone call a couple days later, everything about this experience was negative, and gave the impression that the business is extremely disorganized and mildly unprofessional.
- Ian L.

Her chiro adjustment was so light that I had to ask whether she did an adjustment at all. She moved me to a different room twice which was highly inefficient. She should have just done the adjustment in the first examination room and be done with it. It also took such a long time for her to do the small adjustment that she did do that it felt like she ...More was a beginner, but in fact, she had been practicing for several years. Also, the dry needling made my muscles feel like a block of concrete the next day. Aweful.

I was terrified! Every person I spoke with was kind, caring, and very informative. By the time I was actually being treated I was finding the process more interesting than scary and it didn't hurt at all. I hope I never need another biopsy but all my future screening will be done here.
- Virginia P.

Dr. 's staff were (a) slow, (b) rude, and (c) technologically incompetent. By technologically incompetent, I mean that the gastroenterology department has set up electronic forms for medical history in the MyChart consumer access portal, the information from which are imported ...More directly to a "patient questionnaire" tab in 's EPIC electronic patient records system. Dr. 's office depends on sending forms via the U.S. Mail and receiving the results either by mail or by fax. How 1980s of them. Before meeting with Dr. , you meet with his nurse practitioner, who basically goes over all of the information you submitted on your medical history questionnaires. When you meet Dr. he does a quick, perfunctory examination and then recommends a standard battery of tests for someone with a generalized complaint of abdominal pain and history of a duodenal ulcer and possible gallstones: Upper GI Endoscopy, Colonoscopy and an MRCP (Magnetic Resonance Choliangiopancreatography). He does not explain why he is ordering the tests, what they are for, and/or what the risks and benefits of those tests are or may be. For the colonoscopy, he has his scheduler send a prescription for 4 quarts of Trilyte -- a nasty colonoscopy prep that has a history of making people puke. You only find out about this preparation AFTER the visit, and when you call the office to discuss, you are told "Dr. doesn't return patient calls." Your only alternative is to discuss the matter with the nurse practitioner. Eventually, you are told that if you don't want to drink almost a of TriLyte, you can go without food for 2 days instead of one and drink 2 bottles of oil. It makes you wonder if anyone at Dr. 's office has undergone a colonoscopy him or herself. Again, after asking for other options, I am told that I can substitute 2 bottles of magnesium citrate for the old (magnesium citrate, if COLD tastes kind of like a thicker version of 7-up, much much much better than TriLyte or oil). A few days before the procedures are to take place, I call to make sure that the anesthesiologist that will be providing anesthesia services for the procedures is an IN NETWORK provider. Dr. 's staff seem irritated that I ask them to help find out this information and respond "how should we know." To which I responded, "because you are scheduling the procedure and the anesthesiologist." The response of each of the staff I spoke to was to call 's Financial Counseling or Patient Financial Services. These people deal with billing, and with setting up payment plans for those who do not have 100% coverage and are of ZERO assistance in determining which anesthesiologist will be assigned and whether that person is an in-network or out-of-network provider. It would be folly just to show up for the procedure and hope that everything would work out in the end. Since, if the provider is out of network, and my plan has ZERO coverage for out-of-network providers, I would have been left with the responsibility of paying the ENTIRE BILL for the anesthesiologist myself. Since I couldn't get any information about the anesthesiologist from Dr. 's office (they wouldn't even provide me the number for the anesthesiology department) I was forced to cancel my procedure. When I tried to re-schedule my procedures, I was told that Dr. blocked scheduling any procedures or appointments on my account and that I would have to get his permission before any new appointments or procedures could be scheduled. Apparently, Dr. cares more about keeping his procedure schedule full (i.e. making the maximum amount of money possible for each day in the hospital, performing procedures) and cares not one about whether his patients have the information they need to make intelligent decisions regarding their healthcare. Remember, in addition to the problems regarding the anesthesiologist coverage, Dr. did not provide any information as to the reasons the procedures were ordered in the first place, the risks involved or what was hoped to be gained by them. He just wants to book procedures. Additionally, after my 1 hour specialist consult with him, he did not make any treatment recommendations or prescribe any medications to deal with the pain and the nausea -- I had to go back to my primary care physician to get medication to combat the symptoms that I sought out Dr. to treat. This is an epic failure if there ever was one. If you are considering Dr. , RUN -- don't walk -- as far away from Dr. 's office as you can.
- William M.

The office is really chilly, as needed, and they offered me a blanket during the biopsy. Dr. was efficient and clear, saying what she could, following protocol, and not speculating further than warranted by the evidence at hand. The staff did their best to do what was needed while keeping a scared patient on track. They spoke ...More of Dr. Berm's expertise and status in the field to reassure me. Biopsy results will determine further interactions that I will evaluate then.
