    Minnesota Eye Consultants - Minneapolis

I had a truly awful experience at MN Eye Consultants in Blaine at my last--and I do mean last EVER--appointment with them. First, they thought I was a new patient because they had lost my patient records. They failed to mention this fact to me until after they had dilated my eyes--a test they give to all new patients.

When I explained I wasn't a new patient, they tried--and failed--to find my patient records. Seriously--how do you lose patient records? I had been there three times before. I didn't even want my eyes dilated--they put in the drops without telling me what they were. As a result, I got to drive home through a heavy rainstorm with my eyes dilated way too much. I know they were dilated too much because it took SEVEN hours for them to go back to normal.

I had made the appointment specifically to meet with a really great contact lens technician who worked out of the Blaine office. I was clear when I made the appointment that I needed to meet with her. When I arrived, I was informed that she was not available because she was working in another office that day. Ironically, I had made a lengthy trip up to Blaine to meet her, and she was working at the office 5 minutes from my house. The tech felt really bad about it and called me personally to apologize, but I don't think any blame attaches to her at all. It was one more example of how badly organized the office staff was and how poorly they communicate.

The third problem I had was with the optometrist. At intake, the staff asked me what concerns I wanted to discuss with him, and I had a few items. When I met with him, he did not refer to the list of items. When I asked him about them, he basically dismissed all of my concerns with zero discussion. I really got the feeling I was just bothering him, and he was trying to be done as quickly as possible. To add insult to injury, I overheard him bragging to one of the techs in the hallway that he was ahead of schedule.

I called the office a few days later to complain about my experience, but the manager who was supposed to call me back never did so. I left feedback for them on their website and never heard back. They had their chance to address these issues, but once again, failed to be good service providers in every way possible.

My father-in-law was an optometrist, and I think MN Eye Consultants detracts from the entire profession. I will never go back, and I tell all my friends and family to avoid them. I'm still frustrated by my experience, and am happy they're on Angie's List so I can share how truly awful they are.

    West Metro Ophthalmology
Dr. Dirk Colby has been my opthalmologist for 25 years. Very knowledgable, professional, thorough and seems to always be updating the technology and equipment he uses. In addition to yearly checkups and exams, I have had eye surgery twice. Thru his recommendations of eye surgeon specialists, both operations were highly successful. If you need a provider for eye exams or concerns, I recommend Dr. Colby at West Metro Opthalmology in Golden Valley.

Been going here for about 7-8 years. Very easy to make appointment by either walking in or calling a few days in advance. Dr. Clark had a great manner about him and answers every question I have. He generally sends me out with a few sets of demo contact lenses and some samples of solutions/cases. My wife sees him as well and holds him in the same regard. The office area is a bit spartan, but since I've never had to wait, that's ok.

    Verkylin, Dr. James
He is very professional and knowledgeable. I am very nearsighted and he does a very thorough exam. He answers all my questions and takes time with me. If he does not know an answer, he gets back to me, although I think that has only happened once. I am always very comfortable there.

    Mulier, Kathy
Dr. Mulier is thorough, professional, and caring. She doesn't act like she's in a hurry or distracted. My husband, children, and I all see her. I can't say how pricing compares, since we pay only a copay and the rest is billed through insurance.
