    The owner of the shop showed up right on time and completely rebuilt the unit, positioning the gas logs much better than they had been. He eliminated the battery-operated remote and its unit and replaced it with a turn on/turn off knob. He was very neat and there was no residue when he finished. The overall cost would have been less except for the new parts.

    Fred and his team were fantastic. So professional, clean and timely. Fred really took the time to explain the whole process to me and had great ideas. I take so much pride in my kitchen on a daily basis. The workmanship is perfect. I had interviewed three different contractors for this job. I was looking at price, trust and confidence and I got them all with Remodeling Specialties. Fred was always available for any questions or concerns that I had. The bid he came in with was average compared to the others, but I chose to hire him because of the trust I felt. I was not proven wrong at all.

    New homeowner  (house 12 yrs old) looking for someone to turn on 2 fireplaces and get a quote to install gas line for bbq.  Surprisingly, it's 50+ degrees and said not interested in having anyone come out until spring to look at how much to hook up a gas line? Also, wouldn't work on turning on Napoleon.  But later maybe?  Confused and saddened by lack of enthusiasm for business. Will look elsewhere.

    Mike and Dustin arrived on time and were very friendly, professional and efficient. They wore shoe covers and protected my new carpeting with a drop cloth. When I purchased this condo in the fall, the home inspector suggested I have the fireplace inspected and I thought that was a great idea, especially because I would not have turned it on anyway in fear of a gas leak or some other malfunction,��not knowing what condition it was in. Mike took pictures of everything, showing me the make, model and serial numbers in case I need to contact the manufacturer in the future. He also sent me a link to the User Manual online and gave me step-by-step instructions for lighting the pilot light in case it goes out in the future. Mike was able to tell immediately that there had never been a wood burning fire in the fireplace, as the chimney was clean. They went up on the roof to inspect things and found that the chase cover needs work. I emailed the picture they took��of the chase cover��along with Mike's comments to my condo association, making them aware that��it needs servicing. Mike emailed me all��the pictures he took and I will definitely keep them in my gas log fireplace file. End of story ... I was very pleased and would use Doctor Flue's services again in a heartbeat, and I will recommend them to others. As finances allow, I may upgrade to one of the newer, state-of-the-art systems that Mike described!

    The installation went fine except the fireplace was shipped with the wrong fan assembly wire harness. The technician assured me he'd get the right harness and install the fan in 48 hrs.  2 weeks later...still no fan installed. Finally got technician to return and he installed the fan incorrectly. Very careless effort. I had to fix the fan installation myself.
    After fan installation, I notice the remote control will function only if I stand directly in front of the fireplace. Called technician, he said he would come back asap. He never showed up until I called again 2 weeks later. In the meantime, I wired a wall switch myself and returned the faulty remote for a refund.
    It took 6 weeks (from initial installation) to get the fireplace working properly and only because I did most of the fixes myself.

    My gas log set in my fireplace was 25 years old and it was leaking gas. Charlie came over and noticed that right away. He fixed it all and replaced some parts. The fireplace gas log set is better today than all the time I used it in the past 25 years. It looks better, burns brighter, and looks more realistic. Other fireplace shops that I checked to find a repair person, immeditaley tried to sell me new gas logs instead of repairing what I had. New logs run about 600-800 dollars. In the future, I win only be using The Grate Fireplace Shop whether it is for repairs or new gas logs because they did such a great job.

    I was going to buy two fireplace systems from this company. He told me it was going to be a total of $4400.00 and I put down $2200. He called me back and told me that one of the doors, he could no longer order. At this point I told him I wanted my money back because he could not deliver. He said he would not do that. I said that I would be willing to end up buy 1 door from him, which he ended up charging me around $500 over what it should have been.

    At first I spoke with Tom on the phone and then we communicated a lot by text message. I was able to text him images of the project area and provide him information on the tile I was interested in by text as well. He provided his estimate by text after having come out in person to see my fireplace. I didn't really mind, but I do generally prefer to have a more detailed estimate with a breakdown of all the work to be done.

    Sometimes I didn't hear back from Tom right away by phone/text when we were trying to get the job scheduled, but he did always respond and was very punctual and dependable when he was coming out to do the work.

    Tom was great about asking my opinion when he was deciding how to finish some things off, since everything about the job wasn't perfectly straightforward. He also obviously knows what he is doing with tile and has a good sense of style, so he didn't really need my guidance very much. I was a little concerned about the unevenness of the tiles as they were installed (which was caused by the different tile thicknesses), but after seeing everything installed and grouted, I love it! Everything seems very solid.

    All of the tile cutting was done outside and I never had a mess inside or out. Tom seems to be very organized and completed his work quickly, but without rushing through the job. I did not get any other estimates for the work, but his price seemed pretty comparable to tile installation pricing that I saw online.
