"My washing machine contains a switch that in effect shuts off the washing machine if the lid is up. I believe that it is a safety measure to prevent small children" from being injured. This switch had worn out and was no longer functioning, as I was inserting a screwdriver to simulate the lid being down. The washing machine would not drain, or finish the cycle. I was able to create a crude hotwire to fool the machine into emptying the water, but this was temporary fix. I called
as I wanted an experienced technical to take apart the machine and replace the switch. The technician that came out was very professional and friendly. I appreciated that he took me seriously when I explained the problem, what actions I took, and what needed to be repaired. I appreciated that I was not told I needed more expensive repairs. Unfortunately I have dealings with other companies where my diagnosis was not taken seriously and I was told I needed expensive repairs, so this carried quite a bit of weight with me. He also took the time to answer my questions, as well as show me the proper way to take apart sections of the machine and reassemble them. I estimate that it took the technician roughly 20 minutes to complete the repair. This probably would have taken me several hours, as I am not an appliance repairman. My only complaint is that when I scheduled the appointment, I was informed that I would receive an email the day before my appointment confirming the window of time when the technician would be arriving at my home. I never did receive any such email. I did call
around 5:00 PM the day before my scheduled appointment, and was informed that the emails are not sent out until the evening/night before the appointment. He then confirmed my appointment over the phone, and the technician arrived during the scheduled window the next day, which is what I had originally scheduled. I question the
of sending an email the night before the appointment because if there is an issue there may not be enough time to resolve and/or reschedule. Regardless, I would recommend and will use this service provider again due to my positive experience with the technician.

"We have a KitchenAid dishwasher - purchased 12/2011. Last week, it stopped running in the middle of a wash cycle. No lights on the control pads at all and no blown" house fuses when my husband checked for that. We called
, based on reviews on Angie's List. I called on a Friday night plus left a message through Angie's List, listing three days when we'd be available for someone to come. They are closed on the weekends but I got a reply email the next morning, Saturday, saying that they could come the following Tuesday. That was fine with us as we could hand wash dishes in the meantime. They had us call after 8:00 am on Tuesday in order to get a two-hour timeframe in which the tech would come. When I said we'd only be home for the first half of the timeframe, they said they'd try to have the tech make it at the beginning and, in fact, he showed up a little early. Turns out a thermafuse inside the dishwasher had blown. They had to order the new fuse and came out three days later, on Friday, to put in the new fuse. It now works perfectly. I were very professional - they made an effort to adjust their schedule to ours - I really liked the 10% discount coupon for using Angie's List - we will call them again in the future for any appliance repairs.

If the ducts are venting through a window I'm assuming the duct work is all easily accessible.  Lowe's and Home Depot sell a cleaning kit that uses an electric drill to spin the brush as it goes through the ductwork.  I've found it to work quite well and you can do it yourself.  It may take a few passes the first time to get everything out if it has been a while since it was last cleaned.  Just make sure you get all of the loose lint out after running the brush through from both ends and you're good to go.  Please note that if the line is not hard but rather a flex duct line you can easily puncture a whole in it with this kit and will do better to clean it by hand.

As stated above, it can vary between companies.

Typically just an inspection implies you do not have a contract or agreement that may include discounts or free repairs.

With our company you would get the annual maintenace service that you should do every year, and if repairs are needed, they are extra, but you aviod paying a "service call charge" that would be related to most repairs, because you are paying for the "inspection" and we are already on site.

Inspections are often discounted in the slow seasons, and can usually be found advertised , at reduced prices , on Angie's List.

So consider Angie's List and find the best of the best in HVAC contractors!

Since you asked this question over a year ago, I'm pretty sure you've already made your decision but I'd like to offer you some advice.  You mentioned your husband vacuumed the coils and it worked for a couple more weeks.  Chances are the condenser coils were very dirty when he did this.  When refrigerator condenser coils are dirty, the compressor overheats and heat will cause a compressor to fail prematurely.  You should vacuum or blow out your condenser coils regularly.  Today's refrigerator compressors are not made to last like they were in the past.  I remember when it wasn't unusual for a compressor to last 30 years.  You won't see that happen with the way refrigerator compressors are made today.  Regular cleaning of your condenser coils is crucial in preventing premature failure of your compressor.  For more tips, check out my article here on Angie's list titled "How To Avoid Appliance Repairs"

First visit,
Wayland Appliance Repair Services Provider Name Locked
was on time and luckily for me, it was only the timer knob that needed to be repaired. He placed the order for the new one that day, but in the meantime, gave me a knob so I could use the dryer while I waited for the part. One week later the part was in,
Wayland Appliance Repair Services Provider Name Locked
returned, replaced the timer knob in about 5 minutes.
I would call them again for any type of appliance repair again. Great job!

Took everything apart and checked all the connections and cleaned the surfaces and rear of appliance. Kind of subjective because the smell was real mild when he arrived. He suggested crushing some charcoal and placing it in a bowl in the refrigerator and the freezer. It seems to have worked. Also followed up with information for our ice maker which is partially not working. Was very professional and I would recommend to anyone.

Over a weekend, my freezer stopped freezing and the refrigerator began to get warm. On Sunday, I left a message for
Wayland Appliance Repair Services Provider Name Locked
to call me ASAP on Monday. They did! We arranged to meet at my house on Monday afternoon. The compressor relay was diagnosed as the problem and promptly repaired. The whole service call took no more than 30 minutes. It was an expensive repair, but way cheaper than a new refrigerator. And I was so grateful that they came on the same day I called, so that everything I had saved from the frig and freezer that was stored in coolers could be put back right away. The service guy was very professional and friendly. I would use them again for sure.

The work took less than an hour. The repairman who came was very courteous and professional, showing me exactly what was wrong. He also suggested I replace the hoses to the washer very soon because they are old. He said he could do it himself but suggested I could do it since it was an easy job. Very satisfied.

Couldn't have been better. Very quick response. Analyzed the problem promptly. Had the repair product on his truck. Fixed dryer very quickly. Left the area very clean. Gave me the replaced fan to verify that it was actually broken.

asked a few questions over the phone, juggled his appointments and came right over - ON A SATURDAY MORNING!
He replaced a part and cleared the ice build up on the coils and we we running by lunch! He explained everything he was doing and why. He's a nice guy who seems to care about people. He makes refrigerators and hot water heaters a priority on service calls. The "big" repair companies in the area were willing to come out in 1 to 2 WEEKS. He was there in a matter of hours. I will certainly call him first from now on!
