Siding reviews in Spring Lake

This was an enormous endeavor and Bill made it happen, the work is absolutely beautiful and I constantly receive compliments about my house. Everyone who sees it inside and out can't believe it's the same house it used to be. One of my buddies who is a retired carpenter is always asking me if he can stop by to check things out because of how impressed he is as someone who appreciates craftsmanship. I will be asking for Bill's help when it comes time for phase 2 on the second story

Champion Windows and Home Exteriors of Grand Rapids
The estimated cost for removing existing siding and installing new vinyl siding for our 1200 sq foot house and one and a half stall garage was quoted at $9,986.
The estimated cost of 8 replacement windows installed was $3937.
The representative was very informative about the work we wanted done.  Pricing was very very competitive and the quality of the materials seemed to be very good.  I would have felt pretty comfortable having this company do the work they gave us a quote for.  We decided to go with a smaller company thinking they would be better as far as customer service, but I think Champion might have been just as good and a little less money than what we paid.

    VanderLaan Home Improvement Co
The vinyl siding work cost $11,300 for my 1200 sq ft two-story home and unattached one and a half stall garage.
    Eight windows replaced cost $3200.
David was easy to work with and good about answering the questions we had. Emails were answered very quickly. The work took a while to be completely finished as the subcontractor that was doing the work seems to have left the company and it appeared there was communication issues between him and Vanderlaan, leading Vanderlaan to believe the work was done. We were pretty much just waiting on finishing touches and once we emailed David he got a crew out the next day to finish up. He took $200 off the bill for our trouble.

Erie Construction Midwest - Grand Rapids
Originally, I had a quote done about six months prior. The salesman was so unprofessional, I couldn't get him to leave, he was there 3+ hours. The quote was way too high. About 6 months later, a different guy (Steve)called, with a much more reasonable quote. I told him about the first guy and he said that they had had complaints about him before. I went ahead and signed a contract. They tried to get me to use their financing, but I went and secured my own through my own bank. Erie subcontracted the installation out. The installer, Gene, was an okay guy. They got the job done on time. A couple of things did come up, though. There was an electrical hookup that was attached to my garage that didn't get replaced. One of my fence posts was too close to the garage, they took that out of the ground and it never got replaced. They removed light fixtures on my garage that never got replaced. Gene said the wiring was questionable (it was). I asked Gene about this other stuff, but he said he was just hired to install, that Steve should have been the one to inform me of these possible problem areas. Overall, I am happy with the product. About a week after the install was done, I get a call from someone else at Erie, can't remember his name. They want to send someone out to check out the installers' work and to see if I had any follow up questions. I said sure, I did want to get some of these issues resolved. A guy shows up at the appointed time, walks around my house for about 15 minutes checking out the house before he bothers to knock on my door. When he does, we go outside and he comments on the fact that I didn't have the soffits and facia installed. I explained that was more money than what I had, and while I did plan on having it done in the future, I couldn't afford it right now. He went into a sales pitch right there. He was very pushy. We talked outside for 10 minutes and then he said that he could get me a "good deal" if I got the soffit and facia done. He started walking into my house without being invited in, I had to run to catch up to him! He crunched some numbers, my "good deal" would cost me another $3,000 that I didn't have. I told him this and he said he knew I paid cash for the siding. I told him that that wasn't true, I just secured financing through a home equity line of credit through my bank. He said that I should just get more money from the bank then. I told him I wasn't comfortable taking on that kind of debt load. He offered to get me finacing through Erie. I told him I didn't want that either. The conversation was starting to get a little heated. He didn't want to take no for an answer and I was going to be bullied into buying something I didn't think I could afford. Here's the dealbreaker - he then says to me "Maybe I should come back when you are in a better mood." That's when I lost it. I told him this was the only mood I had and he just ruined what was left of it and he'd better get the hell out of my house. I am still upset.
