    Brickworks Property Restoration LLC
The office staff and the guys who actually did the work were great and I would use them again. I would just go through a different salesman. He dropped the ball on almost every turn. I asked for two estimates. One was a day late, the other was two weeks late and only came after I called the office. He said it would be 3-4 weeks before they could do it and actually it was 10 weeks and again only after I called the office. Everything he told me they were going to do was not on the contract although they ended up doing it after I complained. He didn't even bother to follow up when the were done.

    All Brick Design
They did excellent work with all aspects: from digging deep to make a sturdy foundation and digging for retaining wall to finalizing a beautiful patio laid herringbone style with trim details to butt up against existing walkway. And they clean up well when done, which by the way took less than 2 days!

    CJW Chimney Sweeping & Restoration
It went well and I will use them again. However, I met them at the Home Show in Novi then discovered they were on Angies list so I used them. I didn't get any other estimates which is so unlike me - I always get at least 2/3 estimates but I didn't so I don't know if the price was good, bad or great but the work was great! Chuck, the owner, always returned my calls and answered any questions I had.

They arrived right on time and the stonemason got to work. He worked from nine to 4 on my house. He did a nice job on both sides of the house and the chimney and cleaned up. I would recommend this company to anyone who needs tuck pointing done on their house.

    B&D Glass Block
This was a terrible experience.   DO NOT USE B&D GLASS BLOCK, Dave Smolka, Owner and Operator.  The windows, 12 basement windows and 2 garage windows, were not installed properly.  It was raining heavily on and off throughout the day of installation and the owner pushed his installers to continue working.  The frames were not removed in the basement windows prior to installation of the new glass block.  The windows leaked within the first 3 days when it rained.  One of the windows was not set straight and was left with a crooked appearance.   Half the windows were not centered in the opening - leaving an inconsistent look due to an abundance of mortar on one side or the other.   Hand prints of mortar were left on the brick walls near the windows.  It was a mess.
The larger of the 2 garage windows was incorrectly built in the shop - it was built horizontally with the vent in the middle, instead of vertically to fit the opening with the vent near the top.  The owner told me there was a miscommunication regarding the measurements (he was the one who measured the opening).  Against my wishes, the installers, at the direction of the owner, took apart and rebuilt the window in my garage. The on-site rebuild resulted in silicone and mortar residue contamination on the glass surfaces, rendering the appearance of the window unacceptable, as well as ill-fitting.
On numerous occasions (7 to be exact) following installation I attempted to contact the owner on his cell phone (248-225-7430) to express my concerns and dissatisfaction.  I left a message each time and requested a call back. Not once did I receive the courtesy of a return phone call.  From the outset, the owner personally guaranteed the windows would not leak, and he assured me that his customers are always satisfied.  Both of these promises were broken.
I attempted to send a certified letter requesting a full refund to the address I found on Angie's list website, because neither his quote nor his business card had an address on it (red flag!).   My letter was returned to me marked "address not known".
A few weeks after the debacle, I hired a professional, service-oriented, reputable company to reinstall my glass block windows.  I am weighing my options to take action against B&D Glass Block, but in the meantime wanted to get my comments out there so that other customers do not have to go through the disappointing and stressful situation I experienced.

    Brick Bros Restoration
Excellent service. Robert and his team were very professional from the first phone call to the completion of the job. Robert arrived in the beginning of the job to make sure everything was set up and ready to start. His team worked at a steady pace, answered any questions that we had during the job and completed it in a timely manner. They kept the work site clean and gave us minimal interruptions. We recommend Robert and his team for any work and will be using him in the future if needed.

    Pisani Contracting
I got a surprise letter in the mail from my homeowners insurance demanding that I immediately fix several areas of deteriorating exterior brick wall sections.  Three sections were on "wing walls" that are attached to my house, but not on the home's foundation.  They've sunk because the previous owner didn't extend the gutter away from the house.  One section was on my attached garage, and also was by a gutter down spout.  All four had sunk and detached from the surrounding brick.  It was obviously repaired once before.  The color of the brick there never matched.  It was ugly, but I was in no hurry to fix it because it is decorative.
My insurance company didn't give me much time, and the cold weather was already approaching. I called several people in the yellow pages and got nowhere.  I found Greg on Angie's List and he answered immediately, happened to be nearby, came by and gave me a quote that was about where I had expected the price to be.  He was very professional and was exceptional at answering my phone calls and my many questions.  I had other people come by to give me quotes (1 no show, 1 stormed off cause I didn't immediately commit, and only 1 competitive quote).  I had the best feeling and price from Greg.  He was aware I was in a tough spot and didn't take advantage of me.
A two man crew did the job.  They started around 9 AM.  Finished around 3PM.  They actually did more then they had planned so that it would look nicer.  I am certain I couldn't be happier.  They took apart all the bad areas down to the cement pad.  Rebuilt them back up and matched up the brick that was there.  One hadn't sunk as much.  They cleaned out the old mortar and tuckpointed it to look really nice.
I was also happy to see that he only wanted payment after the work was completed.  That was very nice of him.  I was happy to pay him.

Empire Home Improvement & Commercial Contractor
I received a quote from Empire for $2650 to install three new porch steps. We had received less expensive quotes for the work, but I decided to go with Empire because of its excellent reputation.
The steps that they installed were lopsided and not centered. When I asked them to fix it, one of their employees inspected the work, and said that to make the steps perfectly level, they would need to install a new concrete slab in front of the steps. The cost would be an additional $700. We had not budgeted for this additional expense, and there had been no mention of this in the original quote, so I said to center and fix the steps as best as possible without installing the additional concrete.
Later on, I returned home and saw that they had indeed fixed the steps, but I was surprised to find that they had poured a layer of concrete on top of the one they said needed to be replaced. I had not agreed on this work and called Empire to inquire what had happened. They responded that they had decided to do me a favor, and so they had poured the concrete so the steps would be even. They did not charge me for this work; however, they did not consult me about doing it, nor did they say that the work would ultimately not last.
After the winter, that piece of concrete began chipping away and now looks terrible. I called Empire to fix it, but they replied that since it was work that they performed at no charge, it was not under warrantee (even though their website says that they guarantee all of their work). They said that since the slab had not been replaced properly, the steps were now sinking. They also said that the work they did several months before was meant to be a temporary fix, and that if I wanted the concrete slab replaced, it would now cost $1700.

    D & S Masonry Inc
The work was performed by Sean and I am very satisfied, he was very professional and did a great job on my chimney. He was very neat and took time to move any items that could have been damaged during the inspection. The before and after photos provided me with a great visual of the work he performed. I will definitely recommend this company to my family and friends.

Great job ! They showed up and completed work and cleaned up as promised. Did a first class job of match mortar so you can not even tell brick work was done. Robert Morris was  the point person and was great to deal with.
