General Contracting reviews in South Lyon

A terrible experience, I would never utilize this contractor.  Based on the way Don left things and that he won't return my phone calls at this point I have no other option than to explore legal means of correcting this situation.
My experience was similar to the other Review with a "D" rating.
My name is Darren and you can e-mail me at dacr4@sbcglobal.net or call me at (248) 939-1356 to verify legitimacy of this post.
I have picture documenting evertyhing I state below.
When you look at the "A" ratings be careful, you don't know who wrote those reviews, could be from Don and his family members.  I would recommend calling an actual customer to verify the experience.
Don also takes advantage of women.  Due to the nature of my business, I am not home during the day.  Don told my wife a sob story about needing a check for $5,000 (out of the $6,500 and we had initially given $1,500 up front) so he could pay his guys to make their car payments.  Now mind you, their cars were probably at least 12+ years old and this was before the job was done.  My wife gives him the check out of empathy and then next thing you know, equipment is packed up and they are gone.  This is only one example.  My wife will verify she feels she taken advantage of because she is a female and doesn't know as much about cutting trim, staining trim, how it should be installed etc....
There was no communication.  One example, when I requested from Don a final walk through and I have a recorded voicemail to verify this, he said he was done and not coming back out and again, he won't return my calls.
Initially, he said he would paint the house while we were on vacation and he would be on sight everyday.  I am glad I followed my instinct and said no to this.  He was hardly onsight at all.  We never knew when he would be here.  When we were requesting bids and on day one of the job, Don was nice and cordial, but that changed shortly after.  Most contractors quoted us a week of work. It took Don's crew over 2 weeks.  Again, no communication on what to expect.  We never knew how far along they were, what day they expected to end.
Don and his crew have left, he won't respond to my calls and here is what we are left with:
They removed the ceiling lamp in my office to paint, never reinstalled in and left it laying on the floor
Paint in our carpet (Don tried to tell me it was dry wall spackling and they were waiting for it to dry before cleaning it. It was not spackling. We had a carpet cleaner out.  The paint didn't come out so now we are looking to have the carpet replaced.  By the way and I have having the carpet cleaner documenting this for legal purposes, he said he had never seen such a shoddy/hack job by painters.)
Paint in numerous places on our tile
    Paint in our grout
Paint on the windows (Don's crew utilized a paint sprayer, the sprayer as anyone knows you used one causes over spray.  Our brand new windows we just had installed are covered in overspray.  Don's told my wife it wasn't his crew because the windows were covered in plastic.   They are brand new windows and no one else has been painting in our house)
2 Wood tables with paint on them.  Don states that they will cover and move furniture.  These tables were not covered an now I have to figure out how to get the paint off them without ruining the stain and finish.
Windows painted shut!  No kidding!  No just one, but pretty much every window on our main floor.
Missing wall plates or wall plates installed with no screws
Pop stains all over the tile
To replace door trim, you can see where they pried again the door ruining the door and the door jam, they also stripped of the top couple layers of drywall when ripping out the trim.  No patching or repairing or replacing, Don's crew simply painted over it.
Lines are not clean cut.  The beige paint overlaps onto the white trim and vice versa.
Countless nail pops or issues with drywall that were not fixed and simply painted over
Numerous places where they way the paint was applied, it looks "bubbled"
Paint on our railings that are wood and stained
One of my favorites - Don cut 1/4 round molding to go along the floor in front or our kitchen cupboards.  His cuts were terrible, you can clearly see where the piece was too long and created very visible gaps.  He said it was because the tile was uneven.  I told him this wasn't acceptable, he wanted to charge me an additional $200 for more trim.  I said no.  He brought a carpenter out with him and the trim was looking better with 2 exceptions.
They stopped, did not fix all the trim and left the job.  Only about 50% of the trim was actually fixed correctly.  The rest looks terrible and has visible gaps.
In addition, Don himself stained the trim while it was nailed in place to our cupboards,  I have never seen anyone do this. Typically trim is stained, then installed.  Well, now we have a  line of stain above the trim on our cupboards that does not match and it stands out and looks terrible!  I don't know if this can be corrected or if the entire kitchen island will now need to be replaced.
The list goes on and on.
As stated earlier, I would NOT use this contractor.  Don overpromises and underdelivers.
We are now having other contractors come out to correct the mess left by Don and his crew.
I have pictures documenting all this and will be pursuing legal action.  I have shared my contact information and would be happy to discuss my experience with you.

Overall we could not be happier with Dawn and her team, from start to finish. This was a long 6-month process, from design to procuring materials to a 2+ month installation. From the very beginning, Dawn listened well, she was thorough, she was creative (sometimes on the fly), and more than anything else she was patient as we continued to make changes. Her contractors were a pleasure to have in our home...professional, clean, respectful of our family and our space, but most of all VERY good at what they do. We miss having them around in a small way, if you can believe that. If you are lucky enough to work with her carpenter (and jack-of-all trades) named Keith, you will not be disappointed.
One of her other contractors told us that they've worked with various designers over the years, and Dawn and her team treat them better than anyone else in the business by far. It shows in their work, and in the experience we received from start to finish. There were several issues that came up along the way, including hidden piping in a wall that came down and a mis-measurement for our new beverage center. To her credit, Dawn (and her guys) found quick and viable solutions while taking care of the cost difference.
We would recommend Stonebridge to anyone considering a major home remodeling job, or for something as small as a new bathroom or laundry room. We felt their price was fair, they were transparent, and this project was totally worth the investment. We've had knowledgeable family and friends tell us this was the best transformation of a home they've ever seen in person, and that says it all.

Dan is much in demand and we had to wait for him to fit us in.  Once started the work progressed smoothly.  He always explained the steps of the process. Quality of work was exceptional.  They showed up when they said they would and they always kept the work site clean.

As always, Johnny Vargo was very professional. We have used this firm many times in the past. They are punctual, professional, do an excellent job, and always leave the site picked up and clean. I could not recommend a firm for odd repair jobs more. Their prices are very reasonable, too.
I have to tell the story why we started using Vargo. We noticed that our lights were not working in our garage, and after checking that all our circuit breakers were still on, called Vargo to come out and give us an estimate on restoring power to our garage. The first thing he asked over the phone is if we had checked our bathroom ground fault interrupters. We had not, and one in our upstairs bathroom had indeed been tripped, which surprisingly controlled power to our entire garage. Imagine - a contractor who could have charged us for a house call volunteering the information over the phone that solved our problem for free. I was sold on the honesty of Johnny Vargo after that, and have never regretted calling Vargo out for many repair jobs in the future. They do carpentry, remodeling, plumbing and electrical. Don't hesitate to use this firm!

I didn't end up using them. The quote was $700. They were good. The guy came out on time that he said he was going to. It took only twenty minutes or so. He walked me through what his plan was. A couple of days later, I got the estimate. Then the guy did come out and look and followed up with me a few days after that. The only reason I didn't use them was because they do everything, and with this repair I wanted someone a little bit more specialized in remodeling. I don't really see how they could have improved it. They were polite. If I needed their services, I would definitely be contacting them.

When they ran into issues ( water damage rotten wood ) quickly responded and repaired all issues beyond the original scope of the project and at a reasonable price
