I have never had a worse experience. Bottom line is that the guy was way behind schedule while his supervisor assigned to my job served jail time for taking money from other people's building jobs and never finishing them. Fettig did the same thing to me. When the project was going on 2 years overdue, I began questioning his billing and would not pay for work not done. After 2 months of his continued delays and lies, he walked off the job refusing to complete work that he was paid in advance to do. The Michigan Builders license group has several complaints against him and his supervisor's licenses. The cost to fix his poor quality building more than doubled my price.

was told the bathroom would be finished by the end of the 2nd week.......this is 3 X 4 ft square room, only 12 square feet!!!!!  We were unfortunately paying him by the hour which really had him dragging his feet.  It took him approx. 3 days to remove the drywall, remove toilet and sink, and remove floor tile.  Took another 3 days to re-drywall and mud.  Found out when I went to prime and paint he hadn't even redone one wall.....that when the cutting corners started.  I paid for new dry wall, paid him 8 hours to do new drywall, then I was filling in gouges and imperfections in the old wall. One tiling started it took several days to put up tiles on walls, another two days to grout and start floor.  At this time he had taken creative control without my permission on border tile and floor tile near the carpet.  I asked him to redo since wasn't what I wanted, however I still paid him another $42/hr to redo the messes.  After I saw the finished tile work I could do nothing but literally cry it was SSSOOO bad!!!!!  It was a intricate pattern but if he wasn't comfortable with it he should have been up front and I would have hired someone from Lowe's.  Major gapping, huge irregular grout lines, even cracked glass tiles and just left them there.

I contacted him and said I was unhappy and that the work was unacceptable.  he told me I was crazy, and said something like this must be your first rodeo with a contractor if you think your going  to get money back from me.  So at the end of three weeks I have paid him for 74 hours labor at $42/hr.  another 1000 or so in supplies/tiles etc.  And it needs to be completely torn out.  And to top it all off......after I told him he was done working there, he came into my home when I wasn't home and removed his supplies.  That is very unprofessional and he should have waited til I could be there.

We wanted them to start before winter months and they were able to get project on their schedule and finish it in their projected time-frame. Workers were professional and friendly. Delays in project were caused by Mother Nature. Troy coordinated with out-of-state relatives...he was available to review estimate and answer questions over phone. Additionally, he sent regular digital photos of their progress and finished project. He stayed within budget and was always accessible throughout process.

John Plichta hires excellent sub-conctractors.  The home was finished at the end of 2011, right on schedule.  Mr Plichta made excellent suggestions for finishing touches throughout the process.

We had three issues with our home and decided to call Adelaine Construction for a bid.

    1. The fireplace box began by being damp and then eventually water formed a puddle, and later during horizontal rain storms, a gallon or so of water poured into the firebox and elsewhere. Over a 9 month period we had a chimney sweep, a contractor, a fireplace installer, and a few "experts" with ladders inspect and theorize what the issue(s) were. We finally called Adelaine Construction-they fixed it considerably under budget and for less than $75.00. The fireplace has been dry ever since--even during the most intense summer rains.

    2. Where the attached garage roof line meets the rest of the house there has been a problem with rain and, in particular, snow/ice buildup since we built our home. The cement board on the house wall under the garage roof began to show signs of water damage after three years. We had the cement board painted once and it looked good for one season and it returned to its pealing and shabby state. Adelaine Construction determined the cause of the damage and recommended replacing the damaged cement board siding, priming and painting the new siding, installing a commercial grade gutter with snow and ice melting cable, installing the necessary electrical service--complicated by the fact our circuit breaker box was full--and a handy lit on/off switch. It is amazing how nicely the downspout matches the house.

    3. Our last project was the most long-term issue we have had with the house. Although it is too complicated to explain how the house was built and why the front paver stone porch leaked water into our basement, however, Adelaine Construction developed a plan to remedy the core cause of our periodic dripping ceiling in an unfinished room in the basement. We had previously invested $3000.00 to “fix” this leak with a former friend, who is a licensed general contractor; it did not work. Although there was never a lot of dripping after a rain, it was enough to not allow the room to be finished. Adelaine Construction urged us to fix this whether we finished the basement or not—we did. For less than what we spent on the first attempt, we now have a completely dry basement.

The communication of the repair plan and estimates, the issues, and the timelines was excellent; we felt in the loop about every detail. The execution of each project and cleanup was very professional. When a subcontractor was needed, Adelaine had a representative/project manager here.

All I can say how incredibly fair Adelaine Construction has been to us, and how confident we feel about the work they have done. When the need arises, we’ll be calling Adelaine.

TWB was hired by the city of Harbor Springs, along with their partner "northern excavating co" to rebuild the water mains and roads throughout the city area. This job included hooking up all the homes with new water supply pipes from the new water main. TWB and Northern Excavating were paid by the city of Harbor springs for everything, including the water hook up to all the homes. TWB decided to go ahead and bill out an outrageous amount of money to each home owner after receiving their new water hook up. We receive a bill for $4000. for a job that took them less than half an hour. I went to the city hall to complain and they told me that TWB has already been paid for this job, specifically. TWB persisted on sending that bill, to all the home owners and threatening them with court action if they don't pay. This company runs on extremely illegal and immoral practices. I would not hire them to build a doghouse!

We purchased our lot first, then had to look for the right builder for our price-range. The area we chose had a mixture of stick-built and modular homes, and we decided to look into modular not only to save money, but it made sense to have our home built in a factory where conditions were ideal and construction was more likely to be fitted better than on-site building processes. We were right. We had a family member build our garage that they attached to the house, even though Boyne River also does garages, as well as basements, porches and other site-work. We saved a lot of money and couldn't be happier with the results!
