    CJW Chimney Sweeping & Restoration
I've used CJW in the past to inspect and clean my chimney before I had a new wood stove installed. Chuck was very professional and straight forward about the condition of my chimney and what had to be done, Very punctual, got the job done and was gone before I knew it. A very nice person to have your chimney cleaned or other work that needs to be done. Now that my new wood stove is installed and working good I'll have CJW come back and clean the chimney and stove. Very satisfied with his work

    Brick Bros Restoration
We are very satisfied with our overall experience with Brick Bros. Restoration. First, they were quick to come out and give an estimate. We had them estimate this job last year, but we were unable to have it done at the time (due to our own situation). When I called them up this year, they still had the details on file and came out to assess it again without charge and even were able to honor the same estimate. The detailed contract they provided listed out exactly what would be delivered, which gave us peace of mind. They were able to start on our job within about a week. There was some heavy equipment involved, which required backing onto front lawn. That would be our only real complaint, because unfortunately the ground was very wet that day and we did end up with a strip of gouged grass. The office and crew, though, were very attentive to the issue and have said it will be fixed if the grass does not come back within a month. The steps turned out exactly as we wanted and clean up was thorough. The whole process was about 1 week. We were very happy with the ease of communicating with this company. The ladies who work in the office were very responsive. We would call in the morning for details on the plan for that day and they would let us know what was scheduled to get accomplished. They were also able to manage any issues that came up for us and would get back to us quickly with information. The crew onsite showed up as scheduled and kept us aware of what was going on as needed. Robert, who gave us the estimate, was great to work with and even answered some masonry questions for us that were unrelated to this project.

    Brickworks Property Restoration LLC
The GOOD:  Jeremiah is very professional, consider the price very fair and was impressed that he found a nearly exact match for 50 year old bricks.  The workers were on time, very polite and no trouble during the repair.
The ISSUE: About a month after the repair, I was repairing a light on the roof and when I was on the roof, noticed 4 deep CRACKS in the new chimney cap only 1 month after the fix.  The disappointment I have is that if I had not noticed those, in another 5 years we would have been spending another $1500 to repair.
The RESOLUTION:  Jeremiah quickly responded, came out and put a 'coating' on the cement - that is supposed to keep the cap protected from water damage.  (Let's hope it works.)
Overall I'm satisfied with the fix - but a bit disappointed that I even had the issue.  Again, I think their intent is always to do a good job, just maybe an execution issue.

    Brick Concepts LLC
They sent only one email when they received the order, saying that they were busy and would schedule the appointment within 1-2 weeks. It actually took them about 8 weeks to schedule the appointment. It's likely caused by the large amount of orders on this deal.
The company did a good job in making sure I was satisfied, spending additional time to do the job right. Happy with the results.

    Dan Lovelace Masonry Concrete
Mr. Lovelace presented plans that were approved by our condo association.  He was to remove the wooden patio, install 4-6" gravel (4 yds), and 4" concrete (2.75 yds). The concrete was to be stamped, colored, and sealed.  A 48" sidewalk was to be added to join  the patio to the stairs from the upper deck.  There was to be no change to the deck footprint or the support of the upper deck.  Total cost:$2,500.  Work began on 9/20/2011.  Removal of the existing patio uncovered a serious drainage problem with standing water under the wood.  Mr. Lovelace suggested the solution was to run a drain from the front of our property to a pond at the back of our yard, 300 feet away.  Two eave troughs would be tied into the drain and a catch basin would be installed about a third of the way down the hill. The catch basin would be 2-3 inches below ground level. This would get rid of run-off from our roof and our yard and and divert the water from under the patio.  The cost would be $650.    To complete the total project on schedule, there would not be time to present the water problem to the condo board for help. so we paid for the drain to be installed by Mr. Lovelace's workers..  A yard of topsoil was brought in and spread in drain area to be covered with grass seed..   On October 4 half of the needed concrete was poured for the stamped patio.  Mr. Lovelace and the concrete company disagreed as to who erred in assuring the necessary amount of cement would arrive.  This concrete was colored, stamped, and sealed.   On October 8 the other half of the concrete was poured, and stamped.  The color did not match the first half.  We were told it was because  the second half was not yet sealed.  Mr. Lovelace said he would return in the spring and seal the complete patio to give the best look.   Soon after, we left as planned for our winter home, returning on May 15, 2011.  We found that where the patio edge  met the house edge chunks of cement, dollar-bill size, 1/2 inch thick, had popped from frost.  The dirt had washed away from the catch basin and the drain was now 3 inches above ground level.   We called Mr. Lovelace and made four different appointments to have him inspect the drain and patio. He finally came near the end of May.  He said he would repair the drain with more dirt and he would glue the pieces back into the cement.  However, he did not have any money and wanted us to pay his workers for labor and to pay for the material.  By this time we did not trust Mr. Lovelace to solve the issues nor did we want to pay his workers to try.   We asked another contractor to look at the project.  He found mistakes in the way the patio was prepared in order to withstand freezing and thawing.  We paid this man $1000 to redo some of the drainage work and to do what he could to improve the patio. This was completed between 6/5/2011 - 6/27/2011. We had asked Mr. Lovelace to at least bring us 5 gallons of sealer, and we would apply it.  He has made several promises to do that, but as yet it hasn't arrived.  He no longer answers our phone calls.   We learned later that he did not obtain any permits for this work.   We no longer expect any restitution from Mr. Lovelace.  We do hope to warn other people that he is definitely not a reliable, qualified contractor.
