    I need to state upfront that I was a roofing contractor for about fifteen years. I know it has nothing to do with appliance repair but I made service calls and charged people a fair price for my services. Mr. Henry and (I believe it was) his son arrived about an hour later than the time he had given me of 10:30 AM. I expected him to be late; no big deal. He came in and inspected my dishwasher; I had previously informed him of the problem and told him that there was power to the electrical outlet. They then removed the bottom cover and took the cover off of the junction box. It was apparent to them right away that there was a short and Rod said that it may have been improperly connected at installation. I found that hard to believe because it had been working fine for the previous four years and I had a local electrical contractor install the wiring upon the initial installation. They then stripped the wires and re-connected them and re-installed the covers. It took approximately ten minutes to repair. They confirmed that it worked and he started writing up the bill. He then had a phone call and went outside to take it. His son and I got into a conversation about the dishwasher and I told him that the dishwasher would occasionally leak. He checked the seals and said they looked good. His son was very pleasant to talk with. Rod came in and wrote up the bill and informed me that the cost would be $128.00. I was flabbergasted but hid it well and wrote a check for the amount and handed it to him. His son took their tools out to the truck and I told Rod that I believed the cost was very high. I asked him what his service call rate was and he told me $64.00 which is about what I thought it would be. He then started to explain why the cost was so high. I told him he didn't need to explain but I appreciated him repairing my appliance. One of the things that he said that stuck in my mind was that I was paying him for his expertise. I can respect that but I still believe the cost for his services was extrodinarily high. His Yellow Page ad states "We continually strive to keep quality up & prices down, old parts are returned to you" The prices down part is why I decided to call him over other appliance repair companies. After he was done we got into conversations about other things but I really just wanted him to leave at that point but I didn't want to be too rude. He then gave me a magnetic business card. I took it, if only to remind me of who not to call if I ever have another problem with any appliance again and who to tell friends and family not to call if they have problems. I feel that the cost of the service call was unwarranted for the actual visit and subsequent minor repair. The cost was about twice what I believe it should have been; I am basing this on what I have paid for plumbing and electrical work. I believe that Mr. Henry gouged me on the cost of this repair and I do not intend to use his services again.
