Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • The job was somewhat tricky as the back entry is fairly small and included dealing with a closet that has folding doors, an area separated by a half wall where I have the litter box for my cat, the door to my garage, the entry to my living room, and a doorway to my laundry room. The laminate to be removed was new when the house was built in 1998; that means it was glued together and up the walls in the litter box area. The work was completed in 5 working days and looks great. The work was done very well and the work area was cleaned up daily during the construction. My only disappointment was that too much product was ordered and there was a full box plus four full pieces of new flooring left over from the job that could not be returned. I understand how this occurs and would rather have too much product instead of too little or mis-matched product due to different manufacturing die lots, but the result was I paid for product I could not use.

  • Bob's installers met and exceeded my expectations. They were professional, pleasant, hard working and
got the job done ahead of schedule. The result is beautiful! And they moved the furniture back and cleaned up after themselves before leaving.
I was so pleased that I have hired them to do another room right away.
Everyone should be aware that the process is noisy and creates a lot of dust. But it's more than worth it
to have glowing solid white oak floors instead of dingy carpeting.

  • July 5, 2012 *The employee showed up and had to leave immediately due to his machine needing parts. When he returned, he began sanding. The only positive part was the sanding. The employee managed to get the dark stain on the window trim, 2 places on living room walls, 2 places on the dining room walls and on the kitchen trim. He also left stain and polyurethane spots on the front porch, house siding, and the stairs inside the house leading to the kitchen.*July 8, 2012 The employee was called to return as the floors looked horrible due to lap marks and start and stop marks clearly visible on the floors. The floor in the living room had a grey, cloudy cast in several places. It was very noticeable due to the dark stain we had chosen.*July 10 Tim Meldrum, owner, came out to look at the problems. He just sighed at the sight of the stain on the walls, poly spots here and there, and offered to come back again to try to deal with the cloudy floors. We declined! He did want his money because he said that the employee had bills to pay. He was paid in full that day as he expected it.The other issues that led to this negative review are as follows:

    1. 1. The replacement of the boards (with hole cuts) was done so poorly that the boards adjacent to them were damaged. The employee did a very poor job of removing the boards and had to put an ugly looking filler in between the boards. THE NEW FLOOR BOARDS ARE OAK. No one contacted us to ask if this was OK. We were told the replacement boards would be maple just the the rest of the floor.
    2. When the friend of Tim Meldrum arrived to retack the carpets for the bedrooms, he stated that he couldn't properly place one carpet due to the fact that the floor WAS NOT FINISHED FAR ENOUGH BACK INTO THE DOORWAY TO THE BEDROOM. Also, the Meldrum employee had gotten stain on the carpet leading to the bedroom. It was able to be tucked under but not in the correct location.
    3. Now when the floors are dust mopped, parts of the mop get caught on tiny rough spots on the floor.

  • First was the demolition. The walls and floor were torn out, toilet removed, sink and tub plumbing were properly attended to. Then came the prep for the new cement board, an adjustment to an old custom vanity we wanted to keep, then the application of the insulation, cement board, then the tiles on the walls, then the flooring (tile), the granite vanity top, then re-assembling everything from the toilet to the shower curtain rod. All with a minimal mess. He cleaned up each day before he left.

One of the great things about working with Total is the communication. It happens! There were no, I repeat NO shortcuts made here.

  • Chris, the installer, arrived on time, with an assistant:; they did the work in the time estimated, was courteous, neat and professional.
    The floors are beautiful!
