House Painting reviews in Midland

I was very happy with the finished work. These gutters/soffits are 30+ years old and they look absolutely brand new. They taped off and wrapped my entire house in plastic and there was no splashed paint on my siding. The crew consisted of the owner and four other men so each leg of the project was completed in 4-5 hours. Very personable folks and I felt totally comfortable with them on my premises. I highly recommend them.

    CertaPro Painters of Mid Michigan
CertaPro did an excellent job on both the interior an exterior of the home.  It looked great and sold quickly as a result.  They were professional and did a great job of communicating with us throughout the process.  We had a lot going on and they were both flexible and great at working with our moving schedule.
I would highly recommend them.  Especially if you are going to sell your home.  Our home looked like brand new and I am sure that played a big part in us getting our asking price and selling it quickly.

Russ and his son did a quick, professional, on-time job staining our deck. He came to give us an estimate at the time he said he would be here, and called if they needed to change plans. In our case, he delayed staining the deck until afternoon because the wood was too damp to work on. They returned when they said they would, and the work was done by the end of the day. The deck looks like new. I recommend Mr. Mapes' service very highly.

    Ken's Painting
Arrived on time, started on time and from ground level the job looks good.  However, two years after the job I needed to go on the roof and noticed that the paint had hardly been applied to the siding - it looks like they brushed it on with a brush that was barely wet with paint! This is the side of the home that faces south, so now after a couple years it looks bad and is getting weathered.  A fresh paint job should last longer than 3 years. In addition, the job I paid for included caulking the home, but that was not done in all areas of the exterior. So I've called Ken's painting several times over the last year and left messages, but they have never returned my call.  I think I made the mistake of communicating in my first message that I needed them to come back and look at the house because there were issues with the job they had done.  Don't use this painting company - terrible customer service and inadequate execution of the job in the first place.

    Tri City Remodeling
Everything went very well. The window replacements were done in one day. They took care to match the paint they used on the new wood, taking a piece of the old window frame with them to insure a match. The windows they installed were a type called and quot;direct setand quot;, which have no frame themselves, they are directly set into the window opening. The windows Tri-City used were much less expensive than the replacement windows that Pella gave me a quote for, even though they were triple-glazed energy efficient windows. In addition, Pella's solution for replacing direct set windows included a window frame, so the replacement window would not have the same look as the original windows. I wanted to keep the original 1960s and quot;contemporaryand quot; look of my house, so Tri-City's windows gave me the look I wanted.
In addition to replacing the windows, Tri-City offered to replace my storm door at no extra charge if I wanted to obtain the door myself. The door that I ordered from Home Depot hadn't arrived yet when Tri-City did my window replacement, but they came back about a week later to install the new door.
A year before this window job, Tri-City installed a new roof and gutters on my home. Of the 3 estimators who climbed up on my roof, only Tri-City pointed out the poor condition of the chimney and recommended that I have it repaired before it began to leak. Note that they do not do chimney work themselves, so there was no profit involved for them in making this recommendation. In addition, when installing the new gutters on the second story section of my home, the workman offered to replace the two exterior lights that were under the eaves at the corners of the house. I ran over to Lowes, bought new fixtures and LED lights, and the workman installed the lights while he already had the long extension ladder up. It took him just a few minutes added to the gutter installation work to install the lights, but saved me a lot trouble since we don't have a ladder tall enough to reach under the second story eaves.
In short, I thought the work Tri-City did on my home was very well done and I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again. Their employees, both the estimators and the workmen, were very professional and did a great job.

The results far exceeded our expectations. Russ and his crew were very professional. They went out of their way to protect our trees, shrubs and plants which surround our house and hampered their access in some areas. They treated our home like it was their own. They used tarps to protect our porch and driveway, they sprayed water on our landscaping before and after power washing to prevent the mild bleach solution from damaging any of our plants, etc. At the end of each day, they cleaned up the work area and replaced anything they moved, e.g., deck furniture. At first, we weren't sure about our color choice for our shutters; it was hard to picture the new color for the 18 shutters by looking at a 2-inch color sample. Russ brought over a leftover shutter from his shop and painted it with our new color so we could see the result before he painted all of our shutters. This made our decision easy. We went with the new color and couldn't be happier with the results. Rainy weather delayed their work for a few days. As soon as the weather cleared, Russ added two more people to his crew and they worked a 12-hour day to complete our project. With the work complete, Russ presented us with the final amount due, but he didn't just tell us the dollar amount. He gave us the receipts for all of the materials he purchased, passing on to us the discounts he received (we paid the discounted price). And, for each day, he detailed the number of workers and hours worked so we could see the breakdown of the labor charge. No hidden costs!! We received several compliments from our neighbors on the new look of our house, and each of them were very complimentary of Russ and his crew regarding how hard they worked and on how they protected our property during their work.

We would definitely hire them again.

Schaaf & Sons Painting And Drywall
The contractor provided exterior house painting services. Things seemed to go well during most of the job until I paid the remainder of the agreed upon price. There were still some things to get done, but I trusted him to do what he said. I then found all the windows were painted shut. I tried to contact him multiple times. I finally emailed him and threatened to take him to small claims court. I then got an email that basically said I was at fault for the windows being painted shut! I emailed back and gave him two weeks to get the work done or would see him in court. He then sent his worker to finish the work.
My lesson is never pay the full amount until all, and I mean all, the work is absolutely completed as agreed.
The work completed I don't have a problem with. But I lost trust in the person and would not use him again.

    John's Handyman Services

Customer beware, his price might be favorable but the quality of John's work is sorely lacking.   I hired John to reroof my house and basically hired him because of his low price as compared to 2 other contractors.  The roofing job went well.  Crew came in and completed the work in a timely manor, cleaned up, and I was a happy customer until the rains came!  It has now been over a year and I still have leaks around my chimney and my skylight.  Initially when the leaks occurred I called John and he came out and worked on them and told me I shouldn't have any more problems.  I believed him as he seemed to be a sincere and honest person.  Its now been over a year and I still have water coming in and John quit answering my calls because he told me "I was just too ornery."

There is much more to this story so read on if you're considering hiring John.  He is a chatty fellow and can be very likable.  While he was doing  my roof I told him I was planning on redoing my shower/bathtub and making it a walk in shower.  I asked him if he did this sort of work and he assured me he could do everything. Tile work?  No problem!  He'd done showers before  and he could do mine.  We agreed on a cost for labor and I was to buy the materials.  Well not only did he not know how to do a shower but the "shower/tile expert" he brought in to help didn't know how to do a shower either!  I now have a walk in shower that doesn't drain properly and tile that is so misaligned it is embarrassing. The really unfortunate thing is that I trusted John to come in and finish the shower while I was in Florida.  With no one at home to supervise the work,  it turned out a disaster. John took it upon himself to regrout my bathroom floor so the grout on the floor matched the grout in my new shower.  Never told me he was going to do this just decided to do it when I was in Florida.  What a mess!!!  He ruined my tiled floor.  John and I had several discussions about the poor outcome of the job and he offered to redo both the shower floor and the bathroom floor.  This hasn't happened.  It's been close to a year and I've given him numerous chances to make this right and he hasn't done what he promised. I am now in the process of filing a lawsuit against him and is business.

Read on if you're still considering using John because he is a really nice guy and really likable.......John also did some gutter work for me and upon returning from Florida my basement was flooded and carpeting and furniture ruined because he decided I needed an   additional downspout in the middle of the back of my home.  He hadn't secured the extension and it was off and my basement was flooded because of it. I had to call in a restoration company to the tune of $2500 not to mention the loss of carpeting and furniture.   I then had to have all new gutters put on the back of my house for an addiditonal $800.  All this and I paid John $187 to fix the 2 leaks!  (Which still leaked!!!!!)

I figure it cost me close to $5000 to save a few hundred.  I've learned a very  costly lesson.

The job went great. I am unsure of why they do not have more 'A' reviews on this site. I have recommended their work many times since and will continue to do so. They were very professional and easy to get ahold of for questions. The years of experience really show in the quality of work and the recommendations provided by the company. The attention to detail was excellent and the price was very comparable to other contractors. At the time of the work they were fully licensed and insured. I plan to call Quality Painting with any home renovation project.

    Andy's Custom Painting Inc
Andy's Custom Painting Inc did a really good job. Their price was good and the whole thing was terrific. I thought they were the best. I would definitely recommend them. They came earlier than the time they had given. They were very professional.
