    Budget Chimney Sweep
The primary issues that I have had with this company are: not showing up for scheduled appointments (numerous occasions), not completing work that they were contracted for, quality issues with work that was completed, accepting payment and informing us work was completed when work had not been completed.
We have used Budget Chimney Sweep dating back about 8 years and at 4 different properties (personal residences and investment properties I own with a partner) for numerous exterior home repairs large and small.  Originally, we used this company based on a referral from trusted family friend for work on a chimney at my personal residence.  Later, we used Budget Chimney Sweep for our investment property business that I operate with a partner. The prices were always good and the owner seems very knowledgeable and experienced.  Unfortunately, we have run into a number of issues over the past couple of years and we will not be doing any business with them in the future. In late 2013 we called Budget Chimney Sweep for chimney evaluation, repair, and tuck pointing of the chimney and other exterior walls.  At that time, Jarrod informed us he could also do the roof replacement that we needed including related items such as vent boots, chimney flashing, roof vents, etc.  We proceeded to accept a contract with Budget Chimney Sweep (my business partner was listed as the contact person on this contract).  This particular home is 3 stories tall and has a very steeply pitched roof.  Due to the roof pitch, height, and position of this home it is not possible to see all of the roof and chimney areas from the ground.  We paid the contract in full upon being told that the work had been completed.  Being under the impression that the job had been completed as contracted, we continued to contact Budget Chimney Sweep for chimney work and home repairs that our other properties required.  It was around this time that they began missing appointments we had scheduled with them.  They would miss appointments for bidding on work on numerous occasions.  When they did accept a job there were many days that no one showed up on the days we believed they would be starting. There were multiple excuses for the missed days and new appointments would be set (and often missed).  On more than one occasion we eventually had to seek out other contractors to do the work for us.   About 1 year after the roof was complete we started getting water leaks into the house.  One area was at a plumbing vent stack.  I informed Budget Chimney Sweep and he agreed to go look at the problem.  Getting them to show up as scheduled proved to be extremely difficult, in our opinion.  Eventually, Budget Chimney Sweep informed me that they had looked at the roof in and found no problems in the area I had mentioned (I had sent them pictures from inside the 3rd floor and specific description of the leak sight which was at the plumbing stack that exits through the roof). We decided to call a reputable big name roofing/chimney service to check the leak and do an entire roof and chimney evaluation.  What they discovered (and have the photographs to show) is that Budget Chimney Sweep never completed much of the work we had paid them for and had told us was completed.  We were told by the new contractors that the vent boots had not been replaced on the plumbing stacks and this was the most likely cause of our leak.  They also informed us that none of the chimney flashing had been replaced and much of the tuck point work on the chimney was left incomplete with large holes left in the chimney mortar.  With photo evidence from the new contractor we asked Budget Chimney Sweep to finish the job that we had paid them for over a year prior. Once again, there were numerous broken appointments for days we were told they would do the repairs yet did not show up.  Eventually, they claimed the work was done but upon review we realized that they still had not replaced the chimney flashing.  When we asked them about this they claimed they had taken care of it.  We sent them photos of the chimney flashing which shows clearly very old flashing and they did offer to correct the issue.  At this point we are not going to be using this contractor even to complete the job we paid them for.

    The Chimney Doctor
Everything went well. We called due to concern that an animal had gotten in under the fireplace. He patched up the underside of the fireplace with metal so that animals could not get through. He then inspected and serviced the gas fireplace. He was easy to talk with and very personable. He was recommend to us and we would recommend him to others in the area.

    Brubakers Plumbing and Heating
Unfortunately I have to write about another substandard service by Brubakers.  Last year during the time I had installed non functional fireplaces from Brubakers they had subsequently installed a water pump to drain my backyard during the spring flood of 2013.  Not a mere 10 months later the water pump does not work and the backyard is again flooded.  I am not surprised -- since the company I am dealing with.
I cannot stress enough the worthlessness and incompetence of this company and its staff including Justin Gilbert whom I directly dealt with numerous times.
You can clearly see the unprofessionalism of this company in its response to my previous post about $16,000 worth of non functional fireplaces.  If anyone is blacklisted in the community especially amongst high income earners it is Brubakers and I have and will continue to submit my opinion to those who approach me about plumbing and heating services within the community.  Your unprofessionalism is evident and a hallmark of your company.  Thank you for your comments -- they define your business well.
I would recommend any other company aside from Brubakers.  I would be interested in writing an oped piece in the Midland News regarding this poor company.  Please contact me with your stories or bad experience as I would like to highlight them.

    Brubakers Plumbing and Heating

Brubakers provided deficient services and products. Their customer service if horrendous and their attempts are simply to gouge their customers. Upon having a quote to perform work that was intended after the work was completed the quote was changed with additional 2,000 dollars. This was added according to Justin because of extra work -- this was inaccurate - if he paid any attention these were agreed upon before. I have reason to believe he is incompetent. This and quot;additionaland quot; charges were performed twice on two seperate quotes. It has been 1 year since the implementation of the fireplaces and they still dont work!!! In calling Justin he advised me that he would have to do a charged service call. When I called the office to speak to him today to complain he was uncertain to the service call? I have to say he is the most incompetent sales/service person I have ever dealt with. . I would never recommend this company for any of their services and there are plenty of other honest and better companies in the midland, saginaw area that would outpace Brubakers.

My experience with Nader's Masonry was exceptional from start to finish.
My initial phone message was returned the same day...refreshing.
An appraisal date was set for a couple of days later, at which I received a written quote for the job.  The price was fair and Jim Nader was professional, knowledgable, and informative.
He was hired for the job and a start date was set.  To my delight they called a week ahead of time to ask if the job could be started the next day.  The job was finished before it was initially scheduled to start!  The walkway is beautiful and the steps are perfectly set.  I have hired them for a second job.  Nader's Masonry is the kind of Michigan business that feels good to support.

    Brubakers Plumbing and Heating
Brubaker was recommended by a builder who was doing some remodeling for
us when we were getting ready to sell our house. We had a wood burning
fireplace taken out and wanted a gas log fireplace in its place. I had
looked at different places for a gas fireplace, but Brubaker had a great
showroom with fireplaces to compare brands. One of the brands that they
carried had the most realistic looking logs in their fireplaces. It is a
family owned business and they were so helpful in helping me make a
choice. We sold that house quite quickly and we were having a new house
built. We went back to Brubaker again and I got the same one as we had
    put into the first house.

Bone Dry Roofing & Masonry - Cincinnati
Getting the roof on was really good. They were really professional. It took a few months to get a chimney cap done from them as they subcontracted that out and we were not pleased with the wait on that.

    Brubakers Plumbing and Heating
We have been dealing with them for over 10 or 15 years and they have just been excellent to work with. Not too expensive compared with our plumbers. We have good experience with them. We have found them to be reliable, fair and excellent, professional people.

Alpha & Omega Stove & Sweep
Technician was late arriving but called me and left a voicemail informing me of approximate time of arrival, which was much appreciated. Tech arrived and introduced himself and explained what he was going to do. He laid down drop cloths to protect floors and went to work. He worked quickly and included me in on inspection showing me my chimney flue on the camera and explaining what he was inspecting for. He then showed me damage sustained to my fireplace interior box and we discussed options to include replacing with a zero clearance wood burnning stove, which he took measurements for and obtained a quote from Alpha Omega for purchase and installation of the wood burning stove. Upon completion of the work I was given a folder with informational brochures and a business magnet for Alpha Omega, and my receipt. I was very happy with the service and feel that I got my money's worth, and plan to purchase a wood burning stove and installation from Alpha Omega.
