    TruGreen Lawn Care - 5801
Trugreen is TOTALLY AWFUL!! After 2 years of lawn treatments and promises, I still have major bare spots in my lawn. They did the aeration/seeding and nothing popped up. They did it again. Still NOTHING. The 2nd time they did that though, I took pictures afterwards. There were very few grass seeds! They took samples but never came back with results. I asked them to let me know when they were coming so I could be home. They never did so I don't know if they even ever put anything on the lawn. I would call and talk to technicians - each time I got different responses. All I wanted was assistance to make my grass grow and look better. A couple thousand dollars and two years later, it's worse then when I started. If there is a problem with the soil, why not tell me so I can do what needs to be done??? I also got the tree&shrub service. Four pretty good-sized trees died. All I got was many charges and empty promises. I wouldn't recommend these people to anyone!!!

    Express Tree Service
Express Trees managed the work really well. The fill and grading were done really well by caring technicians. They realized to get the correct grade, two of my inground sprinklers needed risers installed to match the new level. They installed the risers and tested the sprinkler system to make sure all was well. Gary - Express Trees is great to work with and his company does excellent work. I don't know the name of the company that did the fill and grading work subcontractor work Gary used, however they were top notch also. I definitely feel I received quality work for a fair price.

    Top Notch Tree Care
Jeremiah came out to give us an estimate which was comparable to another estimate I had received. The reason I decided Jeremiah was right for the job is that he is a certified arborist and actually has a lot of knowledge of trees. He and his crew were professional and friendly. They cleaned up nicely after they were done. They even swept the leaves off of my deck that had fallen there before they arrived. I would hire them again.

    Crippen Tree and Landscape
Mr. Crippen showed up on a Thursday, came back on Friday to have the contract signed, and began cutting trees on Saturday.  He took advantage of an elderly lady still grieving over the loss of her husband.  What he promised to do, cut the leaning trees, was all she was thinking about.  He did not give her a copy of the contract, hand written notebook paper, at that time, on Friday as he had to make a copy of it.  He claims to have walked the property with my mother indicating which trees he would be cutting.  My mother cannot walk the property, so I am not sure who was with him.
He was at the house on Saturday morning, cutting wood from the yard south of the house.  He cut every tree in the yard, leaving the stumps, the tops, and the unusable lumber scattered all over the yard.  He claims to have been told that nothing in the yard mattered so he could drop the trees whereever.  In this yard, he dropped a tree so that the top of it fell on an antique grain drill, smashing the front of it.  Also knocking over two cement pig statues in front of it.  I am sure my mother did not give him permission to do that.  He is using a bobcat to move the logs he cuts from the trees, which is tearing up the yard.  He then started moving around to the woods behind the house.  He dropped another tree on a pile of cement blocks, causing the truck of the tree to break, making this whole tree worthless to him.  He just pushed it off the driveway and left it.  The top of the tree would have fallen on the lattace that was at the top of a flower bed, but they moved it.  Now if nothing in the yard mattered why did he move this lattice before dropping the tree on it.  Several other trees could not be cut down because they would have fallen on vehicles, but that should not have mattered according to him.  He then moves into the woods, detroying the yard with his bobcat tracks, and leaving tops of trees and stumps everywhere.  If the tops were in his way, he just pushed them further into the yard.  By the time he was done on Saturday, he had over fifty logs laying in the side yard.  Mom again asked for a copy of the contract as she thought she should have a copy of it.  He hasn't made a copy of it yet but he will get it to her tomorrow.
He is back again on Sunday, cutting trees from the woods now.  The yard is getting worse as now they have a track from the woods to the side yard where they are putting all of the logs.  The yards and woods look terrible from all the "tops and unusable lumber" that is being left everywhere.  By the time he was done on Sunday, there were 95 logs laying in the side yard, his landing area.  Mom again asked for a copy of the contract, he still has not made a copy of it.  He says he will just re-write it on another piece of paper and they can sign it again.  At some point during the day, when we were moving one of the vehicles so he would have more room for his "landing" area, the driver of the bobcat stated "that he could not even keep up with removing the logs from the woods as fast as they were cutting them".
On Monday morning I called Mr. Crippen and told him there will be no more cutting of trees and I didn't think the contract was good.  There is currently a dispute about this.  I would not recommend him for any work.  His description of his company is that he is experienced at laying sod and landscaping.  He also stated to us that he was a certified arborist in Michigan.  I cannot find him on any certification lists I have searched in Michigan.  And an arborist does not treat the woods and trees as he did.  His company name is Crippen Tree and Landscape, he sure did a number on my mothers landscaping!

    Discount Tree Service
No one came to the house to let us know when they arrived.  Midmorning we saw them clearing the area surrounding the transformer, which is behind the house.   We were surprised to see the men, each carrying a load of branches over their shoulder, move the debris from the back of the house around to the front of the house where it was deposited in a long row.  They did not clear the designated area for the 500 gallon propane tank.  They did begin clearing the driveway.  They left one dead tree which was leaning over the driveway, previously marked for removal with an orange tape.  They began to saw it but then stopped leaving it leaning.  They were requested to not  block the drainage pipe running under the driveway.  However so much debris was left on one side that it is impossible to see the drain pipe.  They left some time that afternoon without coming up to the house to tell us they were leaving.  We called Dwight that evening to see when they were planning to return and finish the job.  Especially the removal of the branches left in the front yard;  clearing of the area for the propane tank and completion of the removal of the dead tree leaning over the driveway.  Dwight reiterated the last time it took 3 weeks to have his truck fixed but that "we would be the first people he called when the truck was done."  We mailed a check for $500 in good faith assuming Dwight was returning to finish the job.  We never heard from Dwight again.   My husband wanted to give Dwight the full 3 weeks he indicated it might take for his truck to be repaired before submitting a negative review to Angie's List.  It has now been one month.  The generator installer must coordinate the delivery date with the propane people which cannot be done until there is a cleared area for the propane tank.  We are in our 70's and not able to clear the area for the propane tank nor to chip up all the branches that were dragged into the front yard.  I have photographs of everything described above but do not know how to include them.

    KC Contracting Co Inc
The work he did at our house was completely unprofessional. We asked him to take the top off of this 60 foot tree.  He started at the bottom and starting chopping off branch by branch, until he cut a 60 feet tree down to about 15 feet with all the side branches off and a little bit of foilage sticking straight up.  Due to the over trimming, and the look of the tree after the trimming, we just had him cut down the tree to the stump.  He just mutilated the tree instead of performing the service we asked him to perform.  I am just really angry because of his attitude and lack of professionalism.   He did what he thought was the best idea, rather than what we wanted done.

Well, additionally, this contractor said he was coming back this weekend, September 20-21 to clean up the tree branches left at two of the properties that he trimmed on September 15th and to grind the stump of the tree that he mutilated at our property and he is a no show.  No call, no explanation. So I guess he is finished.  We were silly to pay him on September 15th with the belief he would come back to finish the job as he said he would.

    Typical from this contractor!!!!!!!!!!!

Smith Tree & Landscape Service Inc
We have used Smith Tree & Landscape since 2004.  We initially used them to trim a large number of trees.  We use them on an annual basis to treat any diseased trees.  They are competent, friendly, on time, competitively priced, and do what they say they will do when they say they will do it.  We would recommend them unconditionally.

Very careful as we had a lot of Miss Dig flags to be aware of. Some of the removal effort was done by hand as using the stump grinder for the complete removal would likely have damaged underground electric and/or phone wires.
