ARetrofoam of Michigan IncThe crew was great, punctual, polite, cleaned up after project extremely well. This is the third project they have done for us, and they did two projects for our relatives in Saline/Ann Arbor area. They stand behind their work, and any problems you may have, they immediately respond.- Bill S.

ATeachout Builders Inc & Teachout Roofing IncThis is my third time hiring TBI. Taylor and staff have been very professional, knowledgeable, and customer service oriented. Taylor will make sure that customer satisfaction is met and exceeded. I’ll be calling them again for my next project.- Holli G.

AT&T Builders L.L.C.I was impressed with the quality of their work. They were here for one long day of really hard work. They did all it with Dedication and good humor. Now my house is a lot cooler. I really can tell the difference. This is a family business worth supporting!- Dario G.

BEsserbuildersIIOverall I am very happy with the build. We had a two car garage built from the ground up. We had really good advice on the location, style of garage, and size. The price was reasonable too. There were a few problems with the garage door which caused it to get stuck while open quite a few times. That issue was resolved to my satisfaction as they sent out a third party company who fixed some minor installation issues. The bedroom is great, we are really happy with the way it turned out. We had a two car garage converted into a bedroom, bathroom, and walk-in closet. The only part I was not happy about was the timing. We signed the contract and paid for the deposit on the garage in April 2019 and construction didn't start until November 2019. The remodel did not start until January 2020 and finished at the end of March 2020. We are still waiting on the driveway which has already been paid in full. The most frustrating part is the only time you get an update is when you call or text repeatedly and it should not be like that. It should be the builders job to call and give you updates. I've now been waiting since July 2019 for a gravel driveway. Understanding COVID shut things down, but everything opened in June 2020 and it's now October 2020 and it's not done. After texting several times for over a month the gravel was finally delivered. I asked when the driveway would be done and was told "no timeframe". I asked the owner to call, no response. So I posted a Facebook post as I no longer had his number and that was the only way to get a response. I had a text from him that he would call today, and it never happened. I would hire him again but I would make sure the contract specifies a completion date. I will post an updated review and pictures as soon as the driveway is done.- Eric A.

ABuilding Performance SolutionsAlex and his team were extremely professional and helped me every step of the way. The advice they gave me at the quoting process ended up saving me thousands in the end. I will be using these guys on any and all future projects.- Jeff B.

AEcotelligent HomesGreat experience with the team, very professional and courteous. After the audit I was walked through different levels of work that could be done and wasnt pressured into any sales. During the work the team was on time and cleaned up after themselves. House is more enjoyable both Summer and Winter.- Devin S.

APalmer ConstructionGreat from start to finish. Unlike some other bidders, there was no high-pressure salesmanship when we discussed the quote. There was some lag between signing the contract and starting the job but we were well informed ahead of time and project manager Jake Strank kept us in the loop about any schedule changes (there weren't many). The guys were above-and-beyond patient with kids and dogs hovering around the site. They finished the job when they said they would. The house looks beautiful. The quote originally sounded high but when I added it all up--2 or 3 guys per day x more than 2 weeks plus all the extras we wanted--it seemed more reasonable. Thanks Jake & crew! I hope you'll be available when I get around to replacing the rest of the windows and refinishing the porch.- Linda Chapel J.

AEsserbuildersIIWe contacted Esser Builders last spring for a bid on a new roof. Within a couple of hours they were able to come and look at our property. The bid for the roof and other items was sent quickly with clear expectations of the work to be performed. Dealing with Albert and his entire crew was easy. They were personable, courteous, timely, responsive and made sure things were done to our satisfaction. They made multiple return trips to ensure that a particular problem area was not leaking. Since then we have called Esser Builders for other issues and would not hesitate to use them for future projects. We have had bad luck with other contractors and were reluctant to go through the process again. Working with Esser Builders restored our belief that there are good companies who do good work out there.- Keri L.

AClimate DoctorsI thought it was an excellent value and it appeared to be good quality work. They were very conscientous of the house and showed up on time.- Michael B.

APalmer ConstructionOverall, it went very well from beginning to end. Andy Palmer was responsive to our calls, clear in his explanations of what he would do and what would be best for us, and his crew completed the work as scheduled and on time. What we especially liked was that Andy did not appear to be trying to sell us what we did not need. He gave us options--we could do this, or we could do that, and here are the benefits and drawbacks of each.- Raymond T.

AAvalon replaced our roof, the soffits and fascia and siding. The workmanship is outstanding and the quality of materials are far superior to any other company we got quotes from. Additionally, of the four quotes we got, ranging from $68,000 to $42,000, theirs was the lowest for the highest quality product we were shown. They were also super fast. We have a traditional two story house, and that is 2200 square feet, and they did the entire roof, including removing the old materials and replacing a lot of rotting boards, in a day and a half. They sided my house, wrapped all the trim and replaced the soffit and fascia in a week. The people we worked with from their salesman Chris to the workers they sent were kind, respectful and patient, answering all our questions and making sure the job was done the way we wanted it. We did not choose them because they were the least expensive, but because of the quality product that they offered and the other reviews we had seen. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone or to use them again if I needed too.

AWe would highly recommend using Jimmerson Roofing. John, the owner, came to assess the roofing job on our one car garage and sun porch. He was clear and concise about the job. We appreciated his many years of experience in discussing our options. A few days later, we got a quote and a contract to preview. John was able to order the same brand and color of the shingles as our house and was able to use matching flat roof material. The quote was very reasonable and we scheduled the job for two weeks later. The crew of 6 was very punctual and started the job in the morning. Bill gave us an overview of the process and the products they were using. The old roof was torn off, the leak was repaired and new roof was installed. Throughout the process, Bill would stop and patiently answer any questions that we had. He was very courteous and had a genuine concern for our satisfaction. The major part of the roofing job was finished in one day. Clean up was excellent. The next day, their siding specialists: Dustin and his crew member, came to finish the final customized trim work. We are very pleased with our completed Jimmerson roofing job! Thank you! T and B

FBased on the extremely poor workmanship and management of our project we do not recommend using Albert Esser II and Esser Builders II (“Esser”). Our project experienced multiple problems, including structural issues, several code violation warnings issued by the building authority, improper material use, safety concerns, and quality issues. (For examples see attached pictures.) Throughout the building process Esser was given opportunities to address these problems but was either unwilling or unable to meet code and provide a project meeting the industry build standards as promised. When the project was shut down due to COVID-19, more problems were identified including several structural deficiencies, additional quality and safety issues, and further code violation concerns. These problems are substantiated by multiple licensed industry experts and professionals that reviewed the project work by Esser. These industry experts include: • a licensed home inspector who provided a report identifying approximately 50 issues and concerns with safety, code, workmanship quality, and structural components, • 2 professionally licensed structural engineers -1 hired by us, 1 hired by Esser’s insurance company - each provided comparable reports citing 12 different structural deficiencies, • our building authority inspectors whose last inspection cited Esser’s work for 13 code violations, • and 6 different licensed builders who each reviewed the work for repair and determined, due to the “extensive number of problems and extremely poor construction”, it was best to have it demolished and rebuilt. Once the project was shut down it became apparent that Esser failed to meet the obligations of his contract that stated a project meeting and following “all local building codes” and “industry standard build practices” and clearly didn’t meet the timeline estimate of being completed in “approximately 4-6 weeks”. A few specific examples of Esser’s failures on our project are: 1) Albert Esser II began excavation work on our property illegally, excavating without calling Miss Dig to identify our underground utilities and hitting our natural gas line with the excavator, damaging the tracer line which identifies its location. 2) Albert Esser II began building illegally, starting our project without obtaining a building permit that resulted in the building authority stopping work on our project. 3) Esser’s inability to follow industry standard building practices and poor management choices resulted in 3 “WARNING TO SHOW CAUSE” code violations and a “CEASE AND DESIST WORK ORDER” (See Picture C ) being issued against our project by our building authority. 4) The project was still incomplete at 28+ weeks since the start of work which does not include the start date being delayed by approximately 5 weeks from the scheduled date. Esser was unable to explain the excessive discrepancy from their initial time estimate, which was equivalent to several other builders’ estimates we received when quoting this project. Our building authority also questioned the excessive amount of time they were taking. 5) While we work to get this project repaired, we continue to have quality problems with the workmanship including poorly installed siding that is falling off (See Pictures A and B), doors that don’t work properly including one that is not able to be used due to poor workmanship and/or structural deficiencies, and visible bows and waves in the garage walls from poor construction. (See Picture D)
