    Jacobsen Remodeling Inc
Working with Dwight Jacobsen and his team was a terrific experience! There are so many positive things to say about his business and his personality. His knowledge and handling in the fields of home remodeling, scheduling, and running a business was impressive. Plus, his relationship skills and desire to make sure we (the customers) we're happy with the product ordered and installed was always at the forefront of his mind. Whenever we had a question or concern, Dwight was very quick to respond with an answer that was understandable to us. He takes into account health concerns of other people living in the home while work is being done. It is also clear, that the business' that he hires to do certain jobs under his "umbrella" are the very best as well, that share the same desire to do a job extremely well and are pleasant to have in your home. Overall, the way that Dwight Jacobsen orchestrated the project for our kitchen was a great experience, and would recommend his business for any home project you have.

Mr. Handyman of Greater Grand Rapids
It took 3 days for them to respond, requesting me to call via email. The representative was then very clear on company policy / cost ... no free estimates and over $100 an hour for a single worker. The justification was that all their employees are licensed professionals ... but way too rich for me without the ability to get an estimate before hiring someone so expensive.

    Designing Concepts of Western Michigan
There were 2 that were supposed to do the work. Only 1 showed up most of the time and the kept running out of drywall. The project took twice as long and the work was horrible! There were waves in the ceiling and the seams and screw were showing throughout. They started to paint before hanging all the drywall or doing any sanding because they were out of materials. Horrible work that all had to be ripped out and redone.

    Keeler Drywall
Replied to phone call for an estimate in reasonable time. Got a free estimate within 3 days and started the work in less than a week. Arrived on time for estimate and each time he came back to sand and add a new coat of mud. We were extremely pleased with the final result and would recommend to our friends. Likely will use them again when we redo the entire main floor next year.

He completed the work as promised, when promised. The only issue with the Master Plaster is that the phone availability is only during certain time so you have to leave a message and if you miss their call you play phone tag for a bit.

    Extra Pro Painting
Terrible. I would strongly advise anyone against hiring this company. They failed to do the job and the little bit they did do was poor work and the next contractor I am bringing in will have to redo much of the finishing work. They claimed that they could meet a deadline and even added a premium to the price to do so. They worked on the project for a couple of days then just stopped. Troy claimed to have run out of money despite me having paid him half up front which should have more than covered the cost of materials. Then as the deadline approached I was finally able to get in contact and tried to work out a plan to still get the job done which included me buying the remaining materials for them (not part of the contract). The next morning when we had set to meet and begin work they didn't show up and I haven't been able to get ahold of them since and I am out half of the cost of the job they were hired for and further behind schedule. Under no circumstance hire them.

    Avalon Building Concepts
The roof had been leaking on and off.  I kept calling the guy who originally put the roof on before but I could never tell if it got fixed.  It smelled terrible and got so bad that I could put my broom stick right through the ceiling drywall.  So I called Avalon and he said they would fix the drywall when they put on the new roof.  They took off the old roof and put on the new one in a day.  I was amazed they did it so quickly.  They did a good job of cleaning up the yard.  I did not see a mess.  It was very thorough.

Took way longer that should have and they did a horrible job which we now have to pay someone else to come fix. Always said he would show up and then wouldnt. Says he does quality drywall work but we have seams that are showing and now have to be ripped out and redone. Didn't even do the walls straight. Incomplete job.

NEVER do business with Reames Drywall and Ed VanderHoff!  Yesterday when I called to get the work done that one of his workers quoted me  Ed VanderHoff said he has too much work now and he has 6 guys he's running.  The quote to my husband and myself was given to us on June 24 and it's now only July 16.  I told Ed VanderHoff (when I could get a word in) that we have been very busy and my mother in law suffered a stroke so we didn't get back to them sooner and Ed VanderHoff said to me "too bad, my sister died too....big deal".  Really, he said that to me.  We are also filing a complaint with the BBB.  Ed VanderHoff kept bragging to me about how he worked the business for years and that he decides what work he'll do, even after someone (Mark) came to our home and gave us a quote.  I could not believe how nasty his words were to me, being a "so called" business man and I handed the phone to my husband.  He treated my husband in the same way and told my husband to tell me to stop talking in the background and he didn't care that they gave us a quote, he wasn't doing the job. Ed VanderHoff's word is not to be trusted in this case we would assume?
You can't be sure if this company gives you a quote they will honor it much less honor the work they would do.  They didn't with us. Everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and respect and Ed VanderHoff apparently assumes he is above that.  He should not even be answering the phones, in our opinion.   Mark who came out was such a nice guy.  Mark and I had a great discussion of what he would do and how he would do it.  At that time we were planning to go with Reames.
We never expected this kind of treatment just calling back on a quote to get it scheduled.  Terrible customer service and bad manners.  We then went on Google and put in Reames Drywall and read some reviews and found that other customers encountered rudeness when they called this company and didn't go with them.
It's especially disappointing and hurtful because as I said this was the first company I called since I became a  member of Angie's list (not that Angie's list is to blame) and it was a nightmare talking with Ed VanderHoff.  He seemed to me and my husband as very confused and angry, and probably shouldn't be allowed to answer the phone when talking with customers..
Since then, we have found another drywall person, not from Angie's list.  He is starting work on Monday and very nice and respectful.  I am glad that my husband and I have a place to voice what happened to us, so others don't have to go through it.
Service was obviously not performed.   We are so blessed that we DID NOT go with this company.

    Brothers Do All
First Brothers Do All-DIDN'T DO ALL!
He had me hire an electrician to do the electric after my job was started and he lead me to believe he was going to DO it when he bid the job. Then he walked off my project before completing the HVAC.
The first couple of weeks went along pretty good, my only complaint  being that I never knew when they were going to show up. They would arrive generally before noon but, sometimes it would be 1pm and all but one day they would begin putting tools away at 4pm. I never wanted them to punch a time clock.  Just be considerate of my time and things I needed to do, other than sitting waiting for them to arrive.
One day they had told me they would arrive at 8am so I waited, and waited, and waited.  Then I went into my bedroom with my dog, and was sitting on the floor packing a box.  Looked up, one of them was standing in the doorway of my bedroom.  He didn't knock, he came into my place so quietly that my dog didn't even hear him!  Scared the living daylights out of me!!  It was 11am.
My project being to tear out built in cabinets, take down a non-load bearing wall, run electric for new cabinets, move gas line for range, move register to bottom of new cabinet,  do drywall, install new cabinets, and counters.
He removed the old cabinets and torn down the wall, moved the gas line.  Started working on the walls, and the floor and then he didn't show up on Monday morning,  sent helpers Tuesday at 1pm, they left at 4pm.  Wednesday they showed up at 11am and scared me.  Thursday they got here about 9:30.  Friday they arrived at 10:30 and left 11:15.  I called wondering what was up, if he was coming back?  He got defensive with my and then told me I to get someone else to finish the job.

Brothers Do All- Didn't DO ALL!!!  They didn't even finish the job!  After I put up with waiting for them to arrive any time they felt like it for 3 weeks( They didn't work on weekends!)  THEY DIDN'T FINISH THE JOB, LEFT ME IN A MESS AND NO KITCHEN!!!!
