Landscaping reviews in Howell

  • I cannot recommend Sharpe’s Outdoor Services for the following reasons: • Miss Dig never came out to mark my yard before he came out to start my landscaping work. • During the initial landscape work, he cut through the AT&T line feeding my house. I had to wait 2 days for AT&T to get out to fix the line, which was promptly driven over with a bulldozer by the builder since it wasn’t buried yet. • Work was slow to progress. He stated that it would be a 2-3 day job, but took almost 4 weeks to complete. • 1 week after the work was “completed”, I lose power. DTE Energy came out and found 2 spots where the underground power lines were nicked adjacent to a trench that was dug for my downspouts. DTE repaired the line, but I had to repeatedly request Sharpe’s to fix the landscape since they damaged the DTE lines. When they did fix the ground, I had to purchase my own grass seed to plant in the area. • 2 weeks after that incident, I lose power yet again. DTE returns and determines that there is a large section of power line that was “scraped” when the trench was dug. DTE even determined that a drain pipe was placed directly over where the wire was damaged. They have done a temporary fix, but will have to run a completely new power feed to my house in the near future. • Sharpe’s still denies hitting the power lines. • The initial landscaping called for seeding the lawn. I was told that this was the best seed you can get and I would have grass within a week. I had to put down 5 additional 40 pound bags of grass seed to fill in the bare spots. The spots I seeded (see bullet point 4) came in better than the other areas. • Be careful when you receive and read the quotes. Mine said that I would receive 4 inches of topsoil over the entire area of my yard, but in the quantity it said “30” with no units. I was told that meant it would be 30 yards of topsoil. That barely gave me 1.5 inches of topsoil. He reluctantly brought in another 15 yards, but I am still well short of the 4 inches of topsoil that was in the quote.

  • I was looking for a full service landscaping company. Someone who could design and install both the front and back yard landscaping. In addition to irrigation, sod, plants and trees I also wanted a deck, pavers, stamped concrete, built-in barbeque and fire pit. I extensively searched the web and went to home improvement shows. After reviewing Todd’s Landscaping Services web page I contacted them for a design consultation. Their expert designer consultant did an incredible job preparing 3D rendering of how the landscaping project would look. After reviewing the documents, I immediately hired them. Once my new home had final grading done, Todd’s Landscaping Services promptly came out and started the project. The project supervisor made helpful suggestions on how certain things might be tweaked in order to have an even more aesthetically pleasing landscape. The entire project was finished on-time. It is amazing how close it looks to the 3D rendering. Each member of the various crews was completely professional and easy to work with. I highly recommend this company. A special shout-out to Matt, Frankie, Doug, Kevin, Mike, and the rest of the crew that made my dream come true.

  • It went very well. The lot was too large for sod and last summer Robert convinced me that my soil had enough nutrients to support a hydro-seed lawn. He did a finish grade and general clean up of the property before seeding. I had grass growing in 2 weeks and it was ready to cut a month later. Several times afterward I asked for some advice and he always responded promptly. He knows his business and I highly recommend him.

  • The estimator did an excellent job of interpreting our needs in a thorough, professional and friendly manner. AS a result, the crew performed exactly as wished and even did a few extras that became evident as the process evolve. we would definitely hire them again and have suggested them to friends and neighbors.

  • Mr. Martin and his crew worked through the job of cutting down 8 trees in our wooded back yard, with an energetic, enthusiastic and courteous work ethic. While maintaining safety as their priority, the care they showed our property was second to none. After grinding the stumps and cleaning up, you would never know we had all these trees removed. I would highly recommend using Martin Tree Service for any of your tree removals and trimming needs. We will defiantly be using them again when the need arises. Thank you, Martin Tree Service!

  • The quote was competitive. The design presented matched our budget and expectations. The work was delayed due to weather and we were kept abreast of new timelines. We were amazed that the work was completed in a day! The crew was friendly, professional and took steps to ensure our exiting landscape was not damaged when they moved equipment in to complete the job.

  • We had hired this company in 2016. The owner became ill with kidney stones before the job was started. He gave us our money back. We decided to give him a call in the spring of 2017. I wish I had read through some of the reviews going back 6 months or so because we would have gone a different direction. Initially it seemed that the work would go well. The crew seemed to know what they were doing. They did a good job on resetting some wall bricks that had become uneven. We wanted to have a long wooden walk to our yard replaced. The job was done but not to our satisfaction. They never got the sections level and a mason who took a look later said the walk would not last. We voiced our concerns and the problems were not fixed. There was a lot of disagreement between the owner and his crew. The more they bickered with each other, the more the quality suffered. The crew quit. The owners Mom passed away during the job and after the crew quit. We told the owner to take time to grieve his mom and get through the funeral. After two weeks, we told him we needed him to come back. He wasn’t happy with that but he came back. We pointed out to him, again, the things that needed to be fixed. The bottom line is that the walk was never fixed to our satisfaction, there was not enough mulch to finish all the gardens. .We had crushed limestone put on a long drive behind our barn. The edges were very uneven. The owner assured us that this would be packed so hard that we would not have weeds. The mulch next to the walk has big limestone rocks in it because of the company who delivered both in one load and poured it out that way. The owner took a lot of our complaints personally saying “I thought we were getting along well and we’re friends.” I explained that this was not personal and this was business. He ended up leaving the job unfinished, left some of his equipment at our house and left owing us $1,000. He suggested we sell his equipment, a beat up wheel barrel, a shovel and an old dolly. All together, this would have not been worth $1,000 and we did not want it or the responsibility of selling it. We obviously would not use Scenic Landscaping again.

  • We were really impressed with Mark and his crew. They were extremely professional and well prepared. They took the extra time to protect our lawn and property. The tree we had cut down was about 60-70 foot tall and was about 3ft in diameter. It only took them a little over an hour to complete the work and they did a great job cleaning up afterwards. We will definitely be calling Mark back as we have more trees that need to come down.

  • They have to level up the ground on my property, and provided hydro seed and they planted 2 maple trees, They were pretty good and they solved all my landscaping issues. I wasn't able to finish up the whole landscape but am planning to get them again next year to finish my landscaping and install underground sprinkler system; They are the most honest company to work with, They strive to provide good customer satisfaction, They were very reliable & they finished the project in a timely manner and we have some issues after, but they made sure that we were happy so they came back and made sure the problems are fixed. And I highly recommend this company

  • The patio is falling apart less than a month after installation. We cant even use the steps. The whole thing needs to be torn down and redone. Numerous attempts have resulted in no solutions. I would never use this company again. Very unprofessional.
