Larry and his son were pleasant enough to deal with, and showed up. However, the work was incredibly shoddy. Mitered corners were terrible and uneven, the plank ends on the perimeter of our deck were all varying lengths, there were gaps between the boards and at the ends of boards, and they didn't secure the boards around the perimeter of the house at all. And, because of the shoddy workmanship and gaps between the wood when it was first constructed, when the pressure-treated wood shrunk, it did so extensively and looked appalling. When Larry first finished our deck, we were concerned about the uneven cuts and gaps and mentioned it to him. He just shrugged and apologized that we weren't happy with it, but did not offer to fix anything. My husband and I decided we could live with it if it didn't get any worse (we didn't know any better), and that we'd replace a couple boards on our own the following summer. Well, when summer arrived and the pressure-treated wood began it's natural shrinking process, Larry's poor construction became even more evident, and the gaps he left between boards grew substantially - so much so that boards pulled out of joists, cupped, warped, and pushed up under the siding around our house where he didn't secure them with any screws. When we called Larry back to examine the work, he blamed it all on the lumber company and refused to compensate for his bad work - despite the fact that we had three other contractors come out and tell us that poor workmanship (along with bad wood) contributed to the severity of the problem - everything from lengths of boards used (too many short pieces), bad cuts, leaving gaps between boards when constructed, lack of fastening down where needed, etc. And, when we pointed out that boards under the house had warped and twisted because he didn't screw them in around the perimeter, Larry claimed that "he did" and someone "must have removed them." This said, while we were standing there, showing him boards that had no screw holes at the ends, let alone screws. We have since hired another contractor to completely renovate our deck and undo all of of Larry's poor work. They also affirmed when tearing off the old wood, that it had been laid and attached poorly. Thankfully, our deck looks great now, but we are out the $2,000+ wasted on Savoie Builders.

Overall, this was the only local builder who seemed to be interested in doing this job.  However, once hired, the entire process was very professionally managed. The work was done as described and when promised. Overall quality very good. Highly recommended.

Ben's design and ideas are truly beautiful!  My formerly drab yard is now magnificent.
He has knowledge of his materials and design that are outstanding, creating beauty from simple materials.
My friends call it my "zen" garden.  The transformation is amazing!
Ben came in with a crew of 5 men who very quickly transformed my yard.
They kept to the original schedule and were done within the predicted 2 weeks (a rarity in the building industry).
Ben, himself was not only the designer, but was on the job each day, working intensely and keeping things moving.
His expertise in knowing how to produce high quality design and a stable base for all was great.
The design is not only beautiful, but very functional.  I love doing my writing and planning while sitting in my
new yard.  It provides an inspiring setting.
His use of beautiful large stones adds a frame to the patio; each stone is unique and some are filled with
color and pattern - so wonderful.  The plantings lend perfection to the entire design.
I now have a place to entertain that I can be proud of!

This is the second time we've had Palmer Construction do work for us.  Last year they built a new deck and screened-in porch with fireplace and we could not have been more pleased with the end result.  Based on last year's experience we had Palmer do the bathroom renovation.  The cost was reasonable. Dale, the project manager, was very professional and very easy to work with.  He did a great job of keeping the project on schedule. The quality of their work was great, just as they would like to see in their own homes. The work area was kept clean and when it was time to finish the drywall, barriers were put up to prevent dust from getting into the rest of the house. There's no question that we'll be contacting Palmer again for our next home renovation project.

I was pressured by Angie's List to submit a review prior to even meeting these professionals.  At this point, I am awaiting their proposal and therefore cannot indicate whether or not I would use them again.  Since I am not given the option of "does not apply" or "don't know" and I have to indicate something.

Please note:  I ended up using another contractor, but that should not distract from Palmer's ability to perform high quality work.

Working with Ryan, Trudy and their staff at Deck Solutions was a pleasant change from many of our experiences with hired contractors. From the beginning, Ryan was communicative, personal, and thorough. He visited our home personally to provide an estimate, review stain options, and assess our decks.

Our home has a very large, elevated, rear deck with railing and stairs, a wrap-around front porch, and a small porch off our garage. The $1,150 included powerwashing of all these surfaces, and staining by brush. I realize that's not a cheap price tag, but for the amount of work involved, the efficiency of Deck Solutions' staff, and their attention to detail, we think it was worth it. My husband and I never could have done all that ourselves in one summer, especially considering how often we are out of town on weekends, and that we have a small child.

Additionally, Ryan was honest with us about not having an exact timeline for staining our decks, because of course, weather plays a big role. We were OK with that and told him we weren't in a rush anyway so long as it got done this summer. They powerwashed our deck surfaces during damp, cloudy weather and after about a week of ample drying time, returned so they could finish staining during reliably dry weather. Also, we have a heavy gas grill that sits on our elevated deck. My husband and I were going to move it before Deck Solutions came to stain, but failed to do so before we left town for the holiday weekend. When we returned, Deck Solutions had already begun work on the deck, but kindly moved the grill for us!

I recommend Deck Solutions for powerwashing and staining. I understand they also run a paint company, so we may follow up with them in the future for some painting work as well!
