Concrete Repair reviews in Haslett

  • It went so well! Todd came out on a Thursday and the following Thursday, we had a great concrete patio where dogs had destroyed the grass by digging and racing out the door. The cost was over $1000 less than a competitor's quote and the job is great.

  • This is a follow up review of a previous one that I posted on Ayers Basement for concrete work done on our entry way. The repair job was unacceptable and we reported it as such. We received a letter and a call from Ayers after we posted our review and sent them a letter with pictures and outlining our displeasure. Although it took a little while for them to respond they did. A refund for the cost of cement stain was sent along with a gift certificate. In addition Scott came out and looked at the job agreeing that it looked bad. He offered to fix the problem. The original work was done on 6/28/2016. On 11/9/2016 Ayers came out, cut out the cracked slab and re poured a new slab. They did an excellent job and did not charge for the repair. Their response and responsibility were exceptional and we were very impressed and happy. They stood behind their work and I cannot complain. With that type of honesty and response I would definitely recommend them and use the again if needed.

  • Work started on time, I was away at work and by the time I arrived back home, his workers were gone. The driveway took about two days. When completed I found an invoice placed in my back door and heard nothing more. I was so upset to find my yard was a total mess. Two large oil spills out front on the road in front of my home. Concrete pieces were all over in my lawn, which I had to rake up before I could mow my lawn, 6 pavers were thrown on my rose bushes, my public sidewalk had not been scored or detailed. Two weeks later Mr Montague called and wanted to know WHY, I had not paid my invoice? I asked him if he had approved the work when my driveway was completed? First he said No, then he said Yes. It was obvious, he didn't have a clue. He came right over and proceeded to be defensive. I showed him 2 holes that had formed in my concrete, a sign of spalling. He said he would clean up the mess and wanted to leave and get a different truck with his patching material to come back and fix the holes. I told him I didn't pay for a patch job in my concrete and what would prevent it from falling back out? I showed him the coupon from AL. He said he would not honor my coupon he offers for $100 off. The price of concrete had gone up. I told him to take his coupon off Angie's List if he isn't going to honor it and proceeded to ask him if I looked ignorant, he was acting very condescending toward me. He knew I needed to leave for work and so he left to get his other truck and I left for work. I never heard anything more from Mr. Montague. Three weeks later I received a threatening letter from the law firm of Foster Swift. Mr. Montague had retained their law firm to collect his outstanding balance. In the meantime, 2 more holes have formed in my concrete.

  • I called and asked whether I would be available on Sunday afternoon for someone to come out and look at it.  I made arrangements to be home and NO ONE SHOWED, nor did anyone call.  When I finally reached someone, they asked if they could come over right then.  I consented.  The price was what I thought it should be and I consented to have them perform the work.  I asked them to be careful around some planters and not to mess up my yard.  The patio was installed very nicely, but they clobbered the planters and completely messed up my yard with the Bobcat.  The owner was right there requesting payment even before I could check out their work.  To be fair, they did restack the planter and smooth out the yard AFTER I demanded that they do so.  Some other things I didn't appreciate was the owner's criticism of other's work - - I didn't find that professional - - I didn't ask for his opinion.

  • Update on 4/24/2015: Although we were very pleased with everything at the time of the installation (September 2014), by mid-April 2015 (7 months later) we had a hairline crack in the driveway approximately 9 feet long that extended on a diagonal from one side of the driveway to the middle of the slab that meets the sidewalk. After the driveway install we followed their care instructions to the letter, and even waited more than 2 additional weeks before parking a car on the driveway, and kept the driveway roped off from traffic for a full 30 days.

When Steve, the owner, came out this month to check the crack, he said "Yup, you've got a hairline crack but there's nothing we can do about it." He stated that it's inevitable that concrete will crack (which he admitted is why you put in relief cuts, so it cracks on the relief cut and not elsewhere), and he hoped the fibers in the concrete would hold it together so it wouldn't break up because of the crack. He then stated that perhaps it cracked because a heavy truck had driven into our driveway. When I told him we didn't allow any heavy trucks to drive in our driveway, and that we are home most of the time, so likely we would have seen that if it happened, he just shrugged it off. For Able Concrete to honor their warranty, the crack has to be 3/8 inch wide - a gaping crack.

He also admitted he was out checking many other people who had called about cracks that had developed in work Able did last
fall (to which our response was "what does that tell you about the quality of the work you did last fall?"). He eventually offered to extend our current warranty by one year, which we find unsatisfactory. When we received the extended warranty in the mail today, he extended it based on the date we signed the contract to have the work done, which was more than a month before the date
the work actually began. So the one year extension we were offered is actually for 11 months and not the promised 12 months. Steve obviously knows that they don't actually do the work until several weeks after the contract is signed so we have to wonder why he based the extension on the date the contract was signed and not when the work was actually done. We will not be recommending Able Concrete to anyone.

  • Todd never showed up for the scheduled appointment, and never called to explain why he didn't show up. No one from the company has contacted us since then with any explanation as to why Todd left us sitting here waiting for him to show (today is 8/22/14). Not a particularly good way to do business in our opinion, especially considering Cornerstone's competitors were far more willing to follow up on giving us estimates for the work, so we scratched them off our list and have gone with a different company to replace our driveway.

  • Overall, the services were performed well. The only concerns that we had were the cleanup (which was not done).  That is, items were left and were not properly cleaned up on completion. For example, the water hose was used but it was not wound back up onto the reel; the edging was removed and simply left on the grass.  These issues spoiled what was a fairly good experience.  To be honest, we tried to secure bids from several concrete firms, only to find that they either did not respond or responded too lately.

  • I would like to write a glowing review, but I am EXTREMELY disappointed in the lack of professionalism and response concerning addressing the 3 LONG cracks in my driveway - that was poured on 9/28/2013.  I noticed the cracks in late February (5 months later) and called. I called again in March, April, May. Darryl finally called in May and said that Dale would be coming out to view the problem.  Instead, Darryl showed up. He took pictures and said that Dale would be making the decision as to how to repair it and he would get back with me as to when.  That was 1 1/2 months ago.

I have called a total of 10 times since February, and each time have been given the run-around by Darryl; or have been blocked by Penni, who refuses to pass my message to Dale Hosford, the person with whom I originally spoke last summer.

Most recently, I called 7/2/14 and asked to speak with Dale.   Penni said that she would be giving my message to Darryl and he would call me. I asked her to please direct my concern to Dale because Darryl has dismissed my concerns repeatedy, and she, quite clearly, told me that Darryl would be handling it.  No call.  Today, I called and left another message on Penni's voice mail.

Quality of service includes standing by your work and courtesy of responsiveness to concerns. I believe I have been more than patient - it's been 5 months since I advised Hosford of the problem.  I want my driveway repaired by September 1, 2014.

PS  Last summer, Hosford employees failed to return my calls requesting an estimate until my neighbor, who has Dale Hosford do work for her company, told him that I hadn't received any return call.  Dale apologized profusely and told me to call him if I had any further problems.  I'm beginning to think his employees don't want the company to succeed.

  • Everything went great. Todd was on time and had a very competitive rates. He called me before I had to call him to make sure dates and times for project were ready. The day that my drive was to be poured I was worried because of the chance of rain, but it wasn't an issue. Great job all around!
