Concrete Repair reviews in Grand Blanc

We recently hired Arrow Concrete Cutting for the second time to cut a hole in our 10" poured cement basement wall. They cut holes for egress windows several times a week and they are probably the best around. This last hole was 3 ft by 4 ft and the cut was within 1/16 of an inch.

Poor communication. Apparently Mr. Hatch does not communicate directly in person with the homeowner, leading to multiple miscommunications and misunderstandings. This home owner was never informed exactly when the driveway was to be done (so the car could be moved). Mr. Hatch said by phone he would be here "later in the week" to pick up payment, but other workers showed up same day to finish repairs, only to demand payment without known authorization. When the home owner asked to verify these were the people to accept the check, Mr. Hatch blew up on the phone claiming he had said he was coming "as soon as possible" without acknowledging the other workers admitted they had initially not been told they were here to accept payment. If Mr. Hatch had showed up to confirm what work and when it was to be done, and agreed on a time and day of payment, he would have been rated better. Clearly this is not a person you want to be doing business with.

    Marchbanks Cementwork & Construction
We hired Marchbanks Cement works to remove my old driveway, walkway, half of our garage floor (which was sinking badly), and install a new parking turn/around. They did an excellent job. Our property is on a hill, and there were years of settling concrete, and some areas where the old block had crumbled, so there were lots of little thing that needed to be taken care of as a part of this project. Most all of them were handled before they left with just a few small things that we took care of when they were done. There were a few bumps along the way but the Marchbanks family took good care of us and we are very pleased with the results. I highly recommend them to anyone who needs a high quality job done by friendly and courteous contractors.

Chapman's Cement was a subcontractor of Motor City Construction.
Jeff Chapman, the owner was a great guy and went above and beyond what was needed. Had I to do it over again I would have dealt with him directly. The initial cost quoted by Dave from Motor City was $8,000. Once the cement was up and we were in the middle of the job, Dave told us it would be another $5,000 to finish the job due to the water under the garage floor. Dave knew the problem with the concrete floor was from water erosion initially, and I felt it was disingenuous to then act like this was unexpected.
I felt taken advantage of by Motor City, however Chapman's (Jeff) made me feel a little better about the job

    Motor City Builders
It took a while to get the job started due to weather and his schedule. There was unexpected work that needed to be done, and the added cost was difficult to come up with. The contractor he used was wonderful, and went above and beyond. I feel like we were taken advantage of with the price. David is a nice guy, but, again I wish we would have looked around more, not just on Angie's list. The cement leading out of the garage has a large edge that we now have to figure out what to do about it.

We got quotes from 4 different companies. Their estimator gave us the best options for correcting problems with our driveway at a relatively affordable rate.
Because of our wet summer, it took a couple of months before they could get to our job. When they arrived, everyone on the crew went to work on the different tasks required to complete the job. The owner was here to oversee the job and answer any questions I had during the entire process. They started shortly after 8 am and were done before 3 pm.
We are pleased with the result.

    American Concrete Leveling
The crew arrived on time and started the job at 9:30 am. They finished by 2:30.  They were two young men, very professional and accommodating. They did an excellent job.  Driveway looks fantastic! We had 4 different estimates and they were the best price.  The only thing I would like others to know is that the original salesman that came out (Tom) to give us a bid really pushed the fact that there would be a ten year warranty which was part of the reason we chose them,  but workers said that is not something he had ever heard of and that they only issue a 5 year warranty. So just be aware of this. Otherwise everything was excellent. Time will tell how it holds up.

    Marchbanks Cementwork & Construction
The owner and crew were timely and courteous. We are very happy with all work performed. They removed the old cement front porch that was covered in slate, which got very slippery when wet. Also several of the slate pieces were popping off due to water getting underneath and then freezing in the winter. The new porch and steps were poured, tinted and stamped to resemble the previous look. A few days later, they returned to stain 'grout' lines to complete the look. Overall we are very satisfied, in fact this is the second job were hired them for. They had poured a back patio at our previous house, which we were also very satisfied with. Obviously or we would not have hired them again.
We would not hesitate to recommend them to our family and friends.

We called the provider....making a big mistake by trusting Craigslist.  He came out and we explained specifically what we wanted done.  He led us to believe he knew what we wanted and exactly how to go about it.  He quoted us a price.  I did not want to do it, but went against my gut feeling and did anyway.  Never again.  They came out with a small cement mixer and proceeded.  They poured the first step....and waited a few days and poured the second.  Before the second step, I questioned the coloration of the first.  To make a long story short, the second step was poured.  I paid them in full.  After a week, they came back and took down the form.  It looked horrible....another week, and it started to crumble.  I called them back and complained...even I, a seventy year old woman who has worked in the public for 40 years, knows a bad job.  They said they would paint it with Dry Lock and that would take care of the problem.  It did not, and the paint peeled.   They proceeded to tear it down to the base and re-poured the steps.  But they did not "milk" the steps or use the correct trowels, so it is still a bad job.  I am going to have to have a contractor do it over.  NEVER HIRE TONY AKINS TO DO ANYTHING FOR YOU IN THIS LINE.  I will never, never.  He also told me he had liability insurance and does not.  He is not licensed to do this type of work.  He is not licensed period.

I believe the price was reasonable. It was the highest and best quote I got for the job, and I think the quality of the work review was good. A crew came out, removed my existing deck and repaired the site for the special occasions that he said they would. Everything was done very kindly. The job was done very professionally. After the whole process was done, Nathan himself came out and there's a checklist and some problems that I didn't notice. He said they're needed to be finished differently, and they just came out and did those. I'm extremely happy with the end results.
