My consult appointment was initially scheduled 2 months out from the time of the consult from my provider.  The day of my appointment, I was called and told the dermatology provider I was to see was sick and would need to reschedule.  The appointment was rescheduled for a month later.  A week before my already rescheduled appointment, I received a call that the dermatology provider I was to see would be leaving the office at the end of that week and I would need to reschedule...for a second time.  I was really unimpressed with the service thus far and had not yet even gotten in to see anybody.  When I mentioned that I had already been rescheduled once, the scheduler was able to get me in with a PA the next day.  (Yet I was told that they would have nothing until another month out for rescheduling!)  Upon arriving to the office, I thought that it was very nice looking and the front office staff were pleasant enough.  I waited over half an hour for my 1pm appointment.  Once getting back to the exam room, the MA seemed to be having a bad day and very brusquely and quickly asked me questions regarding my visit.  She seemed put out when I declined a full skin assessment at the visit and stated that I just wanted to address my skin issue that I was there for.  The PA I was scheduled to see then came in with an assistant of some kind that seemed to be there just to do her charting for her.  The actual exam performed was literally glancing at the concerning spots on my leg for maybe 2 seconds then promptly telling me that it is a normal part of aging (I am 35), that I just have an olive skin tone that things simply show up more on (I'm actually of Irish heritage and quite fair skinned!), there was nothing that they could do for it, and thank goodness that they make capris for the summertime.  When I tried to further explain the concern that both myself and my primary care physician had I was cut off and told that it was nothing to be concerned about.  I was further insulted by this PA when I explained that I did not think it was normal that my fiance and I received the same type of wound from our dog's leash just a couple of days apart yet he healed in a couple of weeks and I am still healing from it (it has been 4 months and the skin is still recovering).  Her rather snarky advice was that I could try to get a skin transplant from my fiance, but she had nothing more to offer other than a full head to toe skin screening which she recommended I make an appointment for now that I was an "established" patient.
I left that appointment after paying my copay feeling like I just wasted an entire afternoon and $40.  I will certainly not be going back to DANM, and will definitely not be recommending anybody else go there either.  Thankfully there are other dermatologists available in Northern Michigan, and I'd rather drive a further distance to get better service than waste any more of my time or money with DANM.
