    Tenacious Home Improvements, LLC
On Nov 26, 2018 I placed an inquiry to a Craigslist ad for a handyman. My inquiry was answered by Richard Bourque of Tenacious Home Improvement LLC. I provided Richard with a work item list for a rental home in Fraser Mi. and requested a price for the work. The bulk of this work is electrical or plumbing He went to the house to identify what had to be done and to develop a price. He replied with a price of $2750 and wanted $1850 prior to starting the work. . I told him the work items are from a Fraser code inspectors list and all work must meet code and pass inspection, he agreed. November 28, 2018 I sent him the money. I told Richard the work must meet code and be inspected. At this point, he said he cant pull permits because he is not licensed for electrical or plumbing work. I told him I cannot pull permits because I do not reside in the house. He said he may be able to get licensed people to pull the permits at an additional cost of $900. I replied that I will not pay an additional $900. I told Richard until he decides about buying the house, do not spend any of the money I sent to him. After some discussion about the house, he asked if I would consider a land contract sale. I told him I would. He said he wanted to purchase and build a cabinet shop behind it. I told him this would likely be in keeping with the commercial zoning. I told Richard the current renter says he wants to buy the house but apparently has no money. I said I will not hold the house for anyone, and that the first person to formalize an acceptable offer will buy it. I also told him the house is listed with a real estate professional and he would need to cover their costs, and per his request I provide him with the brokers name. I then called the broker and gave her Richards name and phone number so she could initiate discussions with Richard. Over the next few days, Richard said he wanted to make the house into a group home, then he said he wanted to make it a halfway house and that he was working with his church to see if he could get financial backing. November 29th I told Richard, via phone call he needs to return my money. He said he would but it had to wait until Monday. Dec 10. I have requested multiple times for Richard to return my money, he agreed multiple times but to date he has not returned it and now he does not respond to my texts or phone calls. Dec 25. I texted Richard, he responded by stating he has a 30 day return policy and that he is starting a new job the first or second week Of January and that "you will receive every penny. Dec 27. I texted Richard a copy of the small claims filing and told him if he refunds $1,000 by the next day I would delay mailing the filing. Richard responded that he wished he could, he just paid his guys And wouldnt have the money for a week. Jan 4. I texted Richard asking about my money. No response Jan 14. I texted Richard again. No response Mar 2020. I have texted Richard Borque multiple times over the past 18 months. During the past 9 months he has refused to respond to my texts. He has not returned the $1850 nor did he perform any work.

    YOUR FAMILY HANDYMAN
Gary was able to give me a ballpark estimate through pictures sent via text. He has me some simple questions pertaining to the project, and was able to schedule a date within a reasonable amount of time. Gary was efficient with his work and cleaned up after himself. What really drew me to him was the fact he will turn down work if he does not feel he is capable of doing it. I value this honesty from a professional--it shows they know their limits and want to do good work. I would use Gary again in the future for any other projects that come up.

    YOUR FAMILY HANDYMAN
I had contacted Gary in May and had intended to get a couple of other bids on this work, but I had gotten busy and never got additional bids. Gary had given me such a positive impression, he quickly gained my trust so I called him in midsummer and he was open to doing the work but not in the middle of the summer because he would have to get on my roof to repair the chase. I agreed and contacted Gary in October and arranged from him to perform the work on Friday, 13th. He arrived on time and promptly began the work. I work out of my home most of the time so I could occasionally observe his progress. He is efficient, neat and his work is high quality. He encountered some issues and swiftly informed me of the situation, which mean he would require additional time and materials, he quoted the extra cost, which I was agreeable with and he obtained the materials and was wrapped up by the end of the business day. He cleaned up after himself and I am very pleased with the outcome. I would hire Gary again if I need a handyman. Just another note, Gary is very affable and engenders a lot of trust. I quickly felt I could trust Gary to tell me a straight answer. I found his prices reasonable and when he pointed out issues in the work, it all seemed very reliable. I believe Gary is of high integrity and in the universe of home improvements/repairs, that is like gold.

    John Jackson Handyman Service
John is a great guy to deal with. I thought he was coming out to give me an estimate, but he was prepared to do the work right there. To me I didn't ask price because we have been going through a list of handy men for the past year trying to get it fixed to no avail. He took things apart inside the cabinet, found the problem, figured a solution and assembled it all back together. Time will only tell, but I'm so glad to have the door and the lazy susan finally working after a year!!

Len and  his partner worked on two different days and  arrived a few hours late on the first day but had the wrong phone number to contact me.  They were however able to complete the work that I needed to done very satisfactorily.  The did not have a tall enough ladder to install the ceiling fan but did return a few days later having rented an appropriate ladder from Home Depot.  Hanging the fan was clearly a two man job and they did a great job.  Although they did not have the proper ladder initially they were willing to get the rental and return to complete the install.  The ladder was huge and they had to transport carefully on their truck.  I appreciated their willingness to go the extra mile to complete the task.  They were friendly, professional and very accommodating.  I originally purchases the 3 hrs of 2 handymen services for $275 and paid an additional $175 for the fan install which included the rental of the extra tall ladder from Home Depot.  The job did take them an additional hour plus and was not an easy task.   I will definitely hire them again and referred them to my sister.

    Installation Express
Things did not go well with them, because they wanted to sell me something I didn't want. Their estimate was way out of bounds. It was a $10,000 estimate, and I only wanted to spend $800. I just wanted a handyman to put in a pump surround, but they wanted to retile the whole bathroom. I got a handyman to come out and do it. We were totally on a different page. He didn't really know what I wanted. They told me what I wanted was no good and that I should get tile. They were punctual. He said he'd be here at 1:00, and he was. He was pushy. I would not call them for another quote.

    John Jackson Handyman Service
After being jerked around for a month an a half by another company only to be left high and dry looking like a fool. Then I called John Jackson and pled my case of desperation. John quoted me the same price as the other company and gave me a realistic timeline for project completion. Things were delayed a bit due to the arctic freeze, but this was obviously no fault of John's. John was so great about calling me and updating me on his status for completion of the project, which I really appreciated. When he did give me a completion date, BAM the job was done! Not only was it done, but it was done well. This was for one of my rental properties. I am a happy girl!! I will call John again next time I have a house repair at one of my places. I saved his number in my phone!!

See above. It explains everything. It did not go at all.

As to the provider's comment below... they never ONCE contacted me to inform me of any delay or status of the job. The only communication I had with them was done so because I contacted them. That is just not good customer service. I can deal with delays, but not when things go radio silent.
