    Hammer Time Home Improvements
Owner Jody Straubel is great to work with. Provided detailed, itemized estimate and gave scheduling updates. Carpenters were hard workers, cleaned up the job site and got the work done quickly and efficiently - even working outside in December ! Satisfied with job !

They're great! Friendly, timely, thorough, detail-oriented, responsive and humble. Even when the second raccoon nest fell out of the soffit, there was no swearing, just a howl. The house looks fantastic, and they didn't leave a mark on it. They went the extra mile to get the details just right even though it took them longer to achieve. They were polite and informative when asked about the hows and whys of some of the work. If they were painters, I'd hire them to paint the behemoth as well.

I can't speak more highly of my experience with HCI and Alvin Ashley in particular. Being a military veteran I felt an immediate camaraderie with Alvin who himself is a veteran. As part of quoting the job he walked my wife and I through the entire process start to finish. He covered in detail what would happen at every step of the process including what materials would be used and why they were the right choice. Though he quotes jobs now, his experience as a roofer clearly showed as he easily fielded the dozen or so questions that I had. I live in a historic home in Farmington. Around town it is commonly referred to as the Lone Ranger House as Earle Graser (the radio show Lone Ranger) lived in it during the 1930s. It was clear to me after spending some time with Alvin that he appreciated the historical significance of my home and was committed to ensuring it's preservation. Being an engineer and having some roofing experience in my past I already had a detailed cost breakdown completed when Alvin arrived to quote the job. Alvin did not employ any of the normal salesmen BS like starting at twice the real price or pretending to call his boss to bring the price down. His starting number was extremely reasonable and very close to my estimate. After some very brief negotiations I singed a contract to have the work done that very evening. I have several out buildings on my property and have every intention of calling Alvin back when it is time to replace those roofs.

    Somerset Painting & Professional Improvements
Crews did a great job, and were completely professional. Somerset's estimate was very competitive with other estimates we had received. Also, the owner, Rick Hartsell, donates a portion of his profits to eliminating child trafficking, and is very involved in efforts to rescue these young girls, and provide them financial assistance so they can live independently. So when you hire Somerset, not only do you get a job well done, but you can feel good that some of the money you paid is going to a worthy cause.

TERRIBLE. I hired them to put vinyl siding on my garage back in March. They refused to schedule a date to install. Rather, they would randomly call me and see if I was available the very next day for install work. I travel for work, so this was not acceptable. They finally showed up in July to do the work. They showed up with a 1 man crew, at noon. He shortly left after doing not much work, because it was too hot. Several short work days later, they finally finish, and left electrical tape all over one of my windows. No note, no call. Tracy, their salesman, comes out a couple weeks later, and asks ME what the tape was for. I told him I was expecting them to come back out and clean up. Their craftsmanship was poor. Many corners aren't straight. The trim was poorly done. They left big black dirty handprints ALL over the garage, they didn't pound some nails in, they damaged my garage seal strip, they scratched and damaged some of the siding. They came back 3 total times to fix the things they damaged, but never straightened any of the poor work up, and left many parts still damaged. They were full of excuses, and offered me $100 to keep some of the scratched up siding. I had to clean up after them, after my dog kept getting sharp aluminum pieces in his feet. I had to babysit and point out all the dirty / damaged spots, for HOURS. They're unorganized, unprofessional, and now I have garage siding that looks terrible. Still dealing with them with the BBB. They will not finish the work, and keep sending invoices. They are now threatening to put a lien on my home, even though they have not finished the work. Unreliable, unprofessional, and not honest. They respond to complaints with lies, and try to make themselves look better, instead of just fixing what they did. Definition of a nightmare contractor. Save yourself the trouble, and find someone else. On a side note, they are attempting to lean on a city inspection to determine whether or not the job was completed. They only called the inspector after I filed a complaint with the BBB. There are hammer marks and spray paint marks all over my trim still. Their employees will argue with you, and leave before the work is complete, or approved.

    Roof-Rite Inc
The sales person and owner (Jim) spent a lot of time with me navigating through the various options to get me what I needed. The team foreman (Dave) was responsive when I had questions. They worked consistently all day through some of the hottest days of summer. The work they did was of high quality - and the roof looks awesome. Jim came to check how things were going daily, and kept me informed of potential delays due to the summer storms that came through, and made sure the roof was adequately protected when the storms hit. The crew were all courteous and did a good job tidying at the end of each day, cleaning up after completion. Having had several quotes from highly reviewed roofing companies, I found his quote to be fair, and the work and service provided to be exceptional. I'd recommend Roof-Rite without hesitation based my experience.

    JK Home Improvement
Due to the cost of the job I quoted nine companies. During the quote I was surprised to have the owner and tech visit. Their price was on average lower than most. They had reasonable availability, Angies List max rated, and had was willing to work with me. I struggled with the color and type of siding for the work and they were not limited to specific vendors. Old metal siding was bent, faded, and loose. Old metal soffit needed removed, wood cut to allow airflow into attic and replaced in areas that were rotted. Old pieced gutters needed replacement due to being not one piece and poor water flow. JK came out on the coldest days of the season to complete the job. The only complaint they had was I did not have enough lights in the garage for their work. They cleaned up what they could find in the snow. I did have some cleanup after the snow melt, but not enough to complain. They fixed the garage and door metal surrounds after their inspection showed those needed to be completed as well. After a high wind day spring 2018 a shutter was blown off. They ordered a new window shutter and installed at a reasonable cost without issue. This prompted me to finish the review. The incident with their trailer and snow removal was an annoyance but the professional way they handled it was appreciated. With the snow fall and completing within the same quoted timeframe, they deserve as much praise as I can provide.

    Advanced Gutters and Gutter Protection
Advanced Gutters discussed the work, gave pros/cons and we agreed tying in to the existing was aesthetically not good for resale and required a lot more additional labor. A good call. consistent brand new gutters look wonderful! Also thought about doing it myself since I am a 'handy man'. Always better to pay professionals as they accomplish the task so quickly and professionally. I believe the Angie's List add was $250 for 50feet of gutters. I know I needed more and the price would be more but I trusted Angie's List advertisers as opposed to calling a number of gutter companies and having them come out to give estimates.

    Advanced Gutters and Gutter Protection
The owner Keith came out to quote the job himself. He was very straightforward about the pricing, and when he needed to add some extra gutter guard material, he threw it in to keep it within his original quote. Overall a pleasure to work with and would definitely use him again if I need gutters/gutter repair.

    Big Ike's Roofing Co
Gerald was the salesman - professional, friendly, and was responsive to text and calls - During initial meeting, he walked the roof and provided good information and explanations, answering all my questions. Did not really interact much with the crew, but did not have any complaints with their work or conduct. They showed up and started working straight away, completing the roof in two days and then the gutter crew came in and completed the next business day. Both crews did a decent job cleaning up. Only critique, after providing 1/3 down for deposit, they stated ~3-4 weeks (weather permitting) rather than stating, "you are x in the queue of y". Granted there was lots of rain this season, but could have been more proactive with the communication. After week 6 (and a minor miscommunication), got confirmation from Mark (Owner) that work would begin on week 8. Still, they did a good job and the roof and gutters looks great! Now, only time will tell, but I would recommend these guys
