Screen Repair reviews in Farmington Hills

    21st Century Windows
The company is easy to deal with. They follow up on their promises. They show up on time. The doorwalls are amazingly high quality and really nice looking. We expect to see some serious energy savings over the old, leaky doors. Our house backs up to a ravine, so there is no access to it from the back. They had to assemble the doors on site and were willing to do that. Because of our woods, Mark suggested installing the roll-up invisible screens which really enhance the view. The office manager, Valerie, is very nice to work with, as well. We are very satisfied with the product, the install and in our dealings with the company.

My experience with this company has been positive from the start. Having determined to replace as many of the old single-pane wooden-framed windows as I thought I could afford I consulted Angie's List for likely contractors. The woman who answered my call was courteous and reassuring. Within a couple of days two associates came to my home to take measurements and show me what products they offered. The price per window was a great deal less than I'd anticipated, so I was able to replace practically all the windows in my house. The waiting period from the time I signed the contract to the date of installation was about seven weeks, a little longer than I'd expected. But I ascribe this my own unfamiliarity with how long it takes to manufacture windows to custom specifications.
In the course of the install I made several casual comments regarding temperature problems in this old house. These in turn led to queries regarding venting and insulation. Workers inspected the roof and attic, and I was told that I had no vents in the roof and only seven inches of blown insulation. So I ended up agreeing to install roofing vents and more insulation. The costs seemed so reasonable to me that I figured I might as well replace the old and unsightly aluminum siding, too.
At no time during the course of this work did I feel that was I being encouraged to take on unnecessary costly renovations. On the contrary, it was the very reasonableness of the expense which guided me in my decisions to agree to further work which I already knew had to be done, but which I regarded as prohibitively costly.
The team from 21st Century Windows was friendly, courteous, and hard-working. They came in and got the job done. No hidden surprises, no panicked revelations. Jobs I'd thought would take a week or more they took care of in a couple of days and a couple of mornings.
Overall, I was very satisfied with my experience with 21st Century Windows. So much so that I've already agreed to have them handle two other projects around my home.

Ultimately they did a superb job.  There was a minor issue with the re-screening, but their responsiveness to fixing the issue was immediate. The team they sent out was excellent.  I am completely happy with their work.

Purchased the Big Deal to have a screen door and a couple window screens re-screened.  Wasn't rocket science and could have no doubt done it myself.  But we were in a time crunch with a big party we were hosting coming up and all my time was focused on completing several interior renovation projects in time for the party.  So given the situation, $99 was well worth it to me to have someone else do the work.
I have mixed feelings about this review.  I doubt window re-screening is this company's "bread and butter" when it comes to the type of work they specialize in so i'm not sure a "good or bad" type review really benefits anyone considering this company.  Instead, i'll just give my story.
Ryan was able to accommodate my schedule by coming in the late evening, after I got home from work.  He was prompt and professional.  I let him do his thing.  After reinstalling the repaired screens, I inspected the work and noticed that the new screen on the screen door was already starting to rip along the edges.  I pointed it out to Ryan and without hesitation or attitude, took the screen door back off the track and re-screened it a second time.  I inspected it again and it looked o.k.  The two window screens he did were o.k.  They are tall and narrow screens (approx. 15"W x 96"H) and the new screens were a little too tight so the frame kind of bowed in on the long side of the frame so much that daylight could be seen between the screen frame and the window casing. I didn't make an issue with this, because I know the screen will "relax" and stretch after awhile and  so too will the frame (not to mention, it was late and he already re-screened the door twice).  Ryan and I chatted a bit after he was done (I'm in construction too) and he left and I was satisfied.
About a week later, I noticed that the screen door was starting to rip again along the edges.  In one spot, the screen had actually slipped free of the compression gasket that holds it in place around the frame's perimeter.  I called Ryan and again, without hesitation or attitude, he scheduled a time to come by and re-screen the screen door a 3rd time.  He was again prompt and professional.  And when he left, I was satisfied with the screen.
A few weeks later, I noticed the screen was again ripping along the edges and working free from the gasketing.  I didn't have the heart to call Ryan back again.  I figured, after 3 unsuccessful attempts, I didn't want to be the very definition of insanity, expecting a different outcome with a 4th try!
I've since gone to Home Depot and a local window and door company and it's clear that the screen material Ryan used was VERY low grade stuff.  And the gasketing he used should have been a different size and type.  This is my only beef.  The local company charged me $30 to rescreen the screen door with high end screening and the proper gasketing.  They even tightened the frame so now it opens and closes nice and crisply.  Yes, I had to drop off the screen, wait a couple of days, and pick it back up, but come on...$30?  I paid $99 for a screen door and two window screens.  Knowing what I know now, at that cost, I would have expected higher grade materials to be used.
In conclusion, I'm sure this company is probably a decent and competent interior renovations type company.  But when it comes to window screen repairs, I recommend you have a windows and door company do it or take it to Home Depot and select the material and do the work yourself.
