  • I hesitated to write this review because I rarely provide negative feedback.  However, in this case, I've decided it is warranted.  This was the third time that we've used Dr. Flue for chimney cleaning.  We have always been pleased with the service until this last time.  Dr. Flue's employees performed an inspection of the chimney and flue using a video camera.  They reported that the flue needed extensive work and that it was unsafe to use.  We were quite surprised given that this was the first time we've received a negative report and it was also very alarming.  They suggested extensive improvements (or installation of a gas fireplace) that would have cost several thousands of dollars.  Dr. Flue also wanted to do the work and provided an estimate between $2500 to $5000.  Given that we maintain our 70-year old home in excellent condition and have had two major remodeling projects, we followed up with Dr. Flue  for additional information and to seek clarification.  We also sought three other opinions - from two reputable competitors and the city inspector.  All three reviewed Dr. Flue's video pictures and two of the three also performed an on-site inspection.  All indicated that the chimney and flue were perfectly safe for use and that the recommended work was unnecessary.  I contacted Dr. Flue's owner seeking clarification and asked that he personally come to our home to inspect the chimney so that he could double-check his employees' work.  I was not confrontational or accusatory in any way.  He declined.  To the owner's credit, he spent a significant amount of time on the phone with me and said that he reviewed the video pictures.  But, I still cannot reconcile why we received such a "doom and gloom" inspection from Dr. Flue and completely opposite opinions from two other competent companies that could have given the same opinion just to do the work.  Given the conflicting information and insecurity, we are not building blazing fires in the fireplace nor do we use it everyday which is too bad.  Moral of the story:  it might be wise to get a second opinion if extensive work is being recommended by Dr. Flue.

  • Scheduled us for a 1 hour window to clean the chimney. The appointment was during the day, so I had to shift my work schedule so I could be home. The end of the 1 hour window rolled around and no one had showed up, nor had I been contacted by anyone. I called their office to see if I was still on the schedule and what the status was. They told me I was on the schedule, for the time I had written down, but the guy that was coming out was running late and that he was supposed to have called me to tell me that. The woman I spoke to also said she's not surprised that he didn't, and made it sound like it was a common issue with that guy, which makes me wonder why he still works there.
    The guy showed up about 10 minutes after I called their office. He went up on the roof and swept the chimney. He then went down in my basement (where the fireplace is) with a shop vac and some tarps for a bit, came back up, I wrote him a check and he left.
    I went down to check on the fireplace after he left and found that he hadn't actually cleaned up the fireplace. It was still full of ash and soot and there was still ash laying under the fireplace. It seems like he took his stuff down there and then didn't do anything.
    Needless to say, I will not be using their services again. I don't mind contractors being late, but I expect some communication from them if that's going to be the case. Plus, I expect them to do their job properly and clean up after themselves.

  • They were excellent. They called 10 minutes before they got to the house arriving at the beginning of the 2 hour window they quoted. They did a thorough job and were extremely professional and friendly.

  • Gave me a quote for 2000 dollars claiming that he will dig a foundation for the brick step on my front porch, Chris asked for 900 dollars for supplies...wouldn't show up for couple of his appointment then sent someone who claimed that he doesn't know Chris personally and he only came to glue the old bricks, was surprised when I mentioned to him that Chris already took 900 dollars for supplies. Chris wouldn answer his phone after that and when i called from different number he said he will refund the money, then he vanished. Tried to call chimney cricket they denied knowing Chris although I get his number through the chimney cricket add from a magazine. When I called the magazine the owner mentioned that Chris hasn't been paying him his add bills and he got more than one complaint from people who hired chimney cricket through his magazine. Now the magazine took him off of their adds. Chris is very unethical and manipulative.

  • When we read some reviews on other sites we were a little hesitant to do business with Alpha & Omega but after reading several reviews on Angie's list we decided to go ahead and give them a try. 

    First of all we called them on the Friday after Thanksgiving and left a message that we wanted them to come out and sweep our chimney.  Thought they would follow up on Monday but to our pleasant surprise they called us back that Friday early evening and we set an appointment for the following Tuesday which we thought was great.

    They called prior to coming out and were on time with when they told us they would be at our home.  They protected the rugs before coming in with their equipment.  They were courteous of our home and made sure they kept the dirt outside where it belongs.  Their cleaner was actually placed outside and the hose was run over to fireplace.

    In addition to doing the sweep the patched some cracks in the back of the fireplace for $20.  The sweep was $189. 

    Was very pleased with the work and our fireplace is burning nice and clean.  Will use them again!

  • They did really nice work. They're very good. They were very easy to work with. The owner came out initially and looked at everything. He was very pleasant, very nice to work with. They did have a small showroom in Williamston. They don't have that anymore but they're still listed. They did very good work. They're on time, neat, clean, they pick up after themselves, knowledgeable.

  • It went quite badly.  We scheduled the appointment for 1/10/2012, only to have it canceled by Dr. Flue at the last minute and moved to 1/17/2012 after we had already arranged our schedules to be home for the inspection.  Then, once they came, the servicemen were unable to use their equipment to inspect our chimney from the inside.  They said it would have to be inspected from the roof, but due to the weather they would be unable to do it that day.  They then "inspected" our other chimney, which has a gas burning fireplace, and concluded that due to a missing brick the entire thing would have to be replaced at exorbitant cost.  But we hadn't even asked them to inspect this chimney!  They then charged us $80 for a full inspection, despite the fact that they self-admittedly hadn't done what we called them to do.  They promised to come back when the weather permitted and perform the inspection.  My wife and I then became extremely busy for the next few two years with, among other things, the birth and infancy of our twin daughters.  So I put off calling them until I had some free time, which was two weeks ago.  The customer service representative told me that the services had been performed and that they were under no obligation to do anything else, despite their promise.  When I explained the situation to her (thinking that perhaps it wasn't entirely clear to her from the invoice) she basically accused me of lying, insinuating that the fact that I waited so long was indicative of guilt on my part.  I would think that it shouldn't matter how long I wait, and that a company that makes great effort to infer an alignment of itself with the Christian faith by the fish insignia on their invoice and the "Have a blessed day" message in their voice message would be understanding of the fact that people sometimes get really busy and that  that doesn't free them from the obligation of performing services which were paid for.   Anyways, the conversation was really unpleasant for me, and the accusatory and argumentative tone of their agent really made the experience far from "blessed".   At the end of our conversation I said that I would write a negative review on Angie's list.  Her cocky reply was, and I quote: "You do that.  You do that."

    things for me to repair or to keep and eye on in addition to the chimney, and I really
    appreciated that.  They were careful in the clean-up and left the area spotless.  All in
    all, I couldn't have asked for better service.

  • I like the quality of his work.  The front tube work was nice.  If we don’t need our fireplace cleaned, he doesn’t charge.  He is cheerful and friendly.  He is not very good about returning phone calls and sometimes he has been late.
