Home Inspection reviews in East China

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • The inspection was in March of 2017 and was done without fan fare. (During the inspection I specifically asked the inspector Tim several times about my concerns regarding the soundness of the basement and foundation (THERE WERE NUMEROUS VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL CRACKS IN THE WALLS AND ALSO ON THE BASEMENT FLOORS WHICH HAD BEEN "FILLED"). He told me that everything appeared to be normal). The report which was subsequently sent to me said everything was satisfactory and nothing was out of order. After the inspection, I noticed several things which were not on the inspection (one of them was HUGE): the MAJORITY of all of the house's windows were scratched and damaged, there was a missing water spigot outside the house, and I was also concerned about the "dirty-looking" insulation in the basement! The inspector emailed back. He said that the insulation was normal. He also said that the report would be amended. He also said that it was very difficult to see damage on the windows because of the time of the morning that the inspection took place. He amended the report regarding the spigot, but NEVER said anything in the report about the window (33 out of 34 of the upstairs windows had to be replaced; the egress window was also damaged, filthy with mortar, and to date it hasn't been replaced)! After this contact, I also noticed that there was a dent at the bottom of the garage door (and the rubber and metal moldings underneath were also damaged). I sent another email to Weatherstone. They NEVER responded. I sent ANOTHER email to Weatherstone. AGAIN, they NEVER RESPONDED! They DID however PROMPTLY send me an invoice for PAYMENT (which I sent them). Finding all of these things which the inspection hadn't revealed were VERY DISTURBING TO ME, and I was also having TERRIBLE PROBLEMS WITH THE BUILDER (he didn't want to fix or repair anything, kept making promises etc.). To date, I STILL DON'T HAVE PERMANENT OCCUPANCY OF MY HOUSE, because the work which the builder promised to complete in 6 WEEKS TIME has still not been done (a.c., grading, and all of the cement work)! Because of all of the things which the inspection company hadn't found, I had three independent companies come out to evaluate the garage door. ALL THREE OF THEM stated that the garage door opening was a STRUCTURAL PROBLEM AND had been constructed TOO LARGE for the doors! The garage door installation was "rigged" so that the doors would fit (at the time of the inspection there were SEVEN MISSING BOLTS on the doors, and they had to use spacers to add more bolts to fortify the door! The doors had large spaces between the frame which could be opened with a hand, and they also swayed and rattled a lot)! The garage door company ALL said that the dent to the door and the moldings was CAUSED BY THE BUILDER! Estimates to remove the door, re-install the proper woodwork and re-hang ranged well over $1000.00! I also had three independent companies come out and evaluate the BASEMENT AND FOUNDATION of the house! ALL THREE OF THEM stated that the basement and foundation had SERIOUS STRUCTURAL PROBLEMS! They also ALL SAID that there was a SERIOUS AIR QUALITY PROBLEM detected in the basement as well as black mold on the beams and behind the staircase (one company did a COMPUTERIZED air test which came back as "mold spores WELL OVER 80 AND ALMOST 90 ppm.- WORSE THAN A FACTORY)! ESTIMATES TO REPAIR THE BASEMENT AND FOUNDATION RANGED FROM $25,000.00 to $69,000.00!!!!!!!!! NEEDLESS TO SAY, I AM BEYOND UPSET AND ANGRY WITH THIS INSPECTION COMPANY! If they had FOUND all of the structural damage I would NEVER HAVE BOUGHT THIS HOUSE! I sent them ANOTHER EMAIL REQUESTING A COMPLETE REFUND FOR MY INSPECTION! I told them if I didn't hear from them in 1 or 2 days, I was going to take further action! Matt Haigh responded to my email about 4 to 5 days later, and left a phone message. He wanted to "meet with us" (wouldn't say what it was about) at a nearby city. He said he would call when he was "in the area", so we could meet him. He NEVER CALLED BACK! When I called back and left a rather angry but respectful email, he called back, said he didn't appreciate my tone, and said he had an "emergency with his daughter." BUT HE NEVER CALLED TO LET US KNOW THIS! He wanted to meet again! I never returned his call! He called again today (2/8/18) STILL wanting to meet and "discuss" the house! He said that he had already "cut a check" for the refund, but wanted to "talk!" I DID NOT want to meet with him BECAUSE DUE TO HIS NEGLIGENT INSPECTION , I BOUGHT A SERIOUSLY-STRUCTURALLY-DAMAGED NEW HOUSE! In the end I met with him. It was a VERY SHORT MEETING! He did NOT want to talk about anything but hand over a check ONCE I SIGNED A FORM WHICH RELEASED HIS COMPANY FROM ANY RESPONSIBILITY OR LIABILITY! I REFUSED to sign it! Once I told him that, he quickly put the check away! HE HAD NO INTENTION OF REFUNDING THE INSPECTION FEE UNLESS I HELD HIS COMPANY BLAMELESS!!! He tried to say that there was NO STRUCTURAL DAMAGE WITH THE HOUSE (ALTHOUGH I HAVE VERY CONVINCING DOCUMENTATION FROM INDEPENDENT COMPANIES ABOUT IT)! I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH LARA (Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Administration) AGAINST THE BUILDER to resolve these SERIOUS problems (the builder BREECHED his contact with me)! BUYERS OF NEW AND USED HOUSES BEWARE!!!!!!!DO NOT get a home inspection by WEATHERSTONE PROPERTY INSPECTIONS LLC (or ANY company for that matter! Property/home inspection companies are NOT LICENSED in Michigan so you have NO PROTECTION WHATSOEVER! If they are negligent and do not find problems, your only recourse is a REFUND of the fee that you paid! I DON'T WANT ANYONE ELSE TO GO THROUGH THIS LIVING NIGHTMARE! Do yourself a favor and get FREE, INDEPENDENT INSPECTIONS FOR ALL OF THE MAJOR COMPONENTS OF THE HOUSE FROM COMPANIES WHICH SPECIALIZE IN DIFFERENT AREAS: BASEMENT/FOUNDATIONS, GARAGE DOORS, ROOFS, ELECTRICAL (I HAVE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS ALSO) ETC.! EVALUATIONS LIKE THIS ARE NOT UNDER ANY PRESSURE TO "PASS" A HOUSE!!!! I COULD HAVE AVOIDED BUYING THIS HOUSE IF I HAD DONE THIS AND NOT DONE WHAT I THOUGHT WAS PROTECTING ME: HAVING A HOME INSPECTION DONE!!!!!!!!!
